What seperates him so much from the other disaster curses is that while other disasters r the fears of natural phenomenon, humans r creatures that typically go out of their way to accomplish what they want. That's why unlike other curses, who r just there pretty much to kill humans on instinct, mahito actually enjoys tormenting them. And the series does a rlly good job showing this part of his character.

Hot take but I think if mahito were to live for over 100 plus years he would surpass sukuna and gojo. His technique is so versatile and one shots 99 percent of the verse. He’s the only curse we’ve seen hit a black flash and he performed a 0.2 DE after seeing it once. His potential is boundless.

it does, it just doesn't apply to some special curses because recently, in the anime time, a lot of super powerful curses were appearing like the disaster curses. It's more like those curses needed a higher classification than special grade to exist, like Gojo. But overhaul, the average special grade sorcerer beats the average special grade curse. P.S. The fact that the classification method is old and needs an update is talked a lot in the anime, so it's not like we need to take it 100% as is.

The rule that sorcerors themselves will be stronger than their classification of curses itself is a registered rule, not a universal law in jujutsu society. Gojo also said the system was CLOSE to being updated because of NEW sorcerors having tge potential to surpass gojo. So that means gojo himself, is still in the lvl requirement of special grade. It just so happens that 3 of the 4 registered special grade sorcerors r on the higher end of it. But geto, for example, can lose to curses like jogo and mahito. It's all mixed, but the sorcerors just happen to have the stronger fighters.

The thing about Mahito is, he had too much potential, the way Sukuna’s true form is described as something perfect for jujutsu sorcery, is something that Mahito would have been able to replicate. He see him growing extra hands whenever he uses a domain expansion, so what’s going to keep him from growing an extra mouth and set of eyes as well. Not to mention with the information of inanimate objects containing souls there’s no telling if he’d be able to shape the soul of the world itself. That curse was a true menace, and considering how he loved growing so much you know he would have explored every attribute of his technique if he was given the time.

After seeing recent chapters this really parallels alot between sukuna and mahito. Their fight with yuji is a fight for ideals so the scene of them staring at each other looks like a mirror in that context, the difference maybe was the final moments of the fight. Minor spoilers: The guts to take responsibility of the gamble they take is the difference, mahito crumbled as soon as things didn't get his way while the mirror of this scene is sukuna vs gojo. Sukuna took the gamble of not going full power and gojo was heck alot close of taking sukuna down, he wasn't even scared of almost dying. This is a little head canon but his calmness in that scene despite his plan crumbling is the proof enough of able to live with your decision.

Mahito's idle transfiguration fully evolved could've been a manual Yuta's copy ability since it could manipulate curse techniques and heavenly restrictions. And due to not being human he could adjust his body to handle as many curse techniques as he wanted. That being said Sukuna wouldn't help him, and without Sukuna's help, he probably wouldn't ever get to an amount of cursed energy to rival Sukuna at least when he has his current ability set in the manga

Idk I feel like he probably peaked right before he died. I just don’t see what he could improve on past the point of his pre death transformation other then hand to hand. U think he's reached his limits because it was so op, but back in s1, did u think mahito could cover a whipe battlefield with his idle transfiguration? The answer is no, gojo and sukuna have both reached the peak of barrier techniques so he can’t just use a domain expansion to touch gojo, and gojo has the capability of tiring him out and then one shooting him. Sukuna is aware of his soul and can protect it, the reason he is so strong against everyone else is they cant perceive their souls. So sukuna even if he gets touched can guard his soul.

Where he differs from Gojo, Sukuna, Yuji and therefore lacks that edge that is needed to be counted amongst them, is that he has on multiple occassions run away from fights. This facet of his personality is what does him in, when he runs away from Yuji and almost begs Kenjaku for help. Which is why inspite of immense potential, he could not become one of them. Yuji, Sukuna, Gojo dont run. Mahito who symbolizes death, also fears it himself immensely.

The fact that you have Gojo over Sukuna says a lot. But full potential Mahito would only be rivaled by Sukuna who is strong AND has the ability target the soul. Mahoraga should also be above Kenjaku since Kenny has no way to one shot it. That being said, even though Gojo > Mahoraga and Mahito (full potential) > Gojo, I'm not sure Mahito could kill Mahoraga either.

Mahito 100% would be able to rival them. For 1 his CT i would argue is top 3 in the verse. His creativity and his versatility were really unmatched. Not only that No amount of physical damaged can hurt him because majority of characters cant target the soul or use a domain. I like to think of it as his own infinity barrier ( not like he is untouchable like gojo but undamageable 99% of the time) The only sure way for him to lose is to run out of CE which he has way more of than majority of character. He has an damn near guarantee win domain like gojo. Lastly what i think would have got him up there would be his mindset that sukuna has and was telling jogo about. Doing anything you want to achieve your goals regardless of consequences. doing what fits your nature like being a "calamity" mahito had that mindset in abundance. I don't think CE and mindset matter all that much really, especially not the later, at least not in isolation. Sure, Gojo is heavily carried by limitless six eyes, but all things considered Sukuna's CT isn't that OP, certainly not to drag him to Gojo level by itself. In a similar vein Sukuna has the "right mindset", but Gojo is his exact opposite - he's actively working on creating a better future for next generation of jujutsu sorcerers. He's not burning anything, he even cooperates with people he dislikes, because he thinks it will help him further his ideological goals easier What matters way more than these two imo is CE reserves and talent with CE manipulation in general. The things that made Sukuna such a frightening beast were his reserves twice the size of Yuta's and his ability to pick up complex techniques on the fly. Same goes for Gojo really, albeit to lesser extent, since limitless is a top tier CT in itself

Doubt. Hanami had crazy learning speed aswell, during the end of her fight with Todo and Yuji she was keeping up with Todos boogie woogie, something even Mahito couldnt do who had prior knowledge of the technique. She just lacked battle experience

Sukuna needed Mahoraga to bypass Infinity and he couldn't copy the first version which Mahito would since he can adapt his soul. He can have as many mouths and hands as he wishes. With more experience given time i think he'd be at the very top.

I think someone can still kill Mahito without hitting the soul. Mahito can reshape his soul but that takes CT. It just means that no damage can kill him if he has CT. Alteast that is how I understand it

Literally the whole show is ran by asspull and plot conveniences. Like, disaster curses would've eaten coc and the show would've ended if gojo did the reasonable, responsible thing and tracked them in the months of time he had before shibuya incident. Everyone in the show except fkn nanami kept giving the villains the upper hand at every chance they could, it's fkn crazy, the only reason the plot progressed so far is because everyone in the show acts on a way no real person in their place would. And it's not just the characters, let me bring your attention to the scene where mahito used his technique RIGHT AFTER he used his first DE, back to back, and it was his first, I rest my case.

In the end he was a coward and chose not to fight to the death, showing that despite the infinite potential of his cursed technique, he did not have the right mindset to continue his ascension. If he did, though, i think he could easily be stronger than gojo and sukuna. First of all, he ciuld quickly learn the 4 arm 2 mouth chant and hand symbol thing sukuna does. Secondly, if he can modify souls and therefore the brain, and cursed technique is in the brain, he should be able to use any cursed technique he can think of, given time to experiment. After all, he can create as many brains as he wants. Only thing stopping him is his cursed energy, but who's to say he couldnt just print 6 eyes on himself if he could modify his brain and body to copy others?

Mahito learned domain expansion way faster than anyone we know of in the series, he learned the .02 domain expansion after just seeing it once, webt from losing to nanami to holding off nanami and yuji, and a short time later, was dominating a stronger yuji and todou in a 1v2 fight. How do curses even "GET" stronger anyway? we never see them train and sorcerers apparently can only really refine their technique to a point while being limited by genetic potential. Does the fear/negative emotions towards humanity have to increase for mahito to get stronger? What if people just stop fearing each other as much? will he stagnate?

You literally just said it yourself. They refine their technique, and the grow DURING battle just like sorcerers do. In JJK you benefit a lot more from actual combat than you do training. Even though we only see Jogo fight Sukuna and Gojo, he has hinted that he has fought many grade one sorcerers in the past. That is how he grew.

RCT would be used to exorcise Mahito, as far as we know Mahito needs multiple touches or to touch for slightly longer to be able to do huge damage or kill someone stronger with it, and RCT instantly kills cursed spirits. Basically Yuta could kill Mahito before idle transfiguration killed him. Obviously thats only possible because Yuta can use RCT on others

While I think Sukuna and Gojo still would probably stand above Mahito at his peak (Sukuna obviously since he can perceive the soul and Gojo since a Hollow Purple could delete Mahito), Mahito could honestly stand as one of the strongest in the verse. yes but his technique has a limit. He cant touch a being who is well verse to his own soul like sukuna or Gojo. So he really cant do anything about it. Thats why he cant do anything to sukunas soul. His soul will be overwhelmed. Also the reason why sukuna didnt get any interest in him but still praise him.
