okay two questions for plug in mode: -can you assign the buttons? -does it support several banks of pots for the same plugin (as it should)?

Can I use this alongside my SSL UC1 to control other plugins in Studio One? 🤔
@pierrebroccoli.93967 күн бұрын
This kind of grab capabilities is what NI should have incorporated into Komplete Kontrol Mk3 keyboards. That and the small displays or display strip under the knobs instead of wasting the large screen area on displaying the knob assignments/parameters. Instead allow focus on the Instrument and DAW. Great to hear Reaper testing with this as well. I assume this is Midi 2? Well done MAAAAATTTE 😁👍

the 8 mini displays should be above the buttons not under
@xfghffhfg7 күн бұрын
I was thinking the same, but I guess the screen serves both the knobs and buttons, so they placed it in the middle.
@Zimmermusic7 күн бұрын
@@xfghffhfg yes it makes more sense. font is a bit tiny, I hope there's a setting to make it bigger
@rodequis60144 күн бұрын
well, the thing is that u can't see the parameter when your fingers are rotating the knob. I insist that the display position is not right. It's good to see some midi controllers nowadays with displays like the old mackie MCUs.
@xfghffhfg3 күн бұрын
@ Maybe it could be a theoretical issue, but in practice, I’ve never been bothered by using instruments where the screen is placed below the knobs. Even with matrix-style controllers with multiple rows of parameters, I’ve never had trouble seeing them. Usually I just glance at the screen first, then tweak the knobs. Ideally, there would be separate screens for the buttons, so it wouldn’t need to be in the middle, but I know that could increase the cost. Personally, I don’t mind paying more for a better setup. It’d be nice if they could also add a mode to flip it :)

Watch the video, 90% of it focuses on the hardware. Additional DAW support is also planned. At 400$, a high-quality controller with multiple screens is quite affordable.

This isn't really revolutionary, because it's more expensive to implement. We already have LED Rings & Rotary encoders. The Midifighter Twist & Behringer BCR2000 solved this problem years ago.
@RyuzenMusic7 күн бұрын
But still there are several things that I feel like is special with this device. 1. Clear labelling and sync(midi twister does not have this) 2. You can change the knob from a smooth knob into a stepped knob 3. Plugin configuration are stored into the device, so you can use it on other PCs while still retaining the config. At least that's what they told me when I tried it
@xfghffhfg7 күн бұрын
It’s more precise than an encoder with an LED ring, allowing you to pick up the parameter exactly where it was while still having a potentiometer-like feel with a defined endpoint. Encoder-based motors are also quite durable, which is important if you’ve invested time in creating mappings for the controller.it’s fairly inexpensive
@Dilettanteworks6 күн бұрын
@@xfghffhfg I've just never been bothered by the differences between potentiometers and endless encoders. If I can twist a knob and make the changes I'm expecting, and then change "pages" and use that same knob to change something else without it forgetting the position it was at, I'm good.
@xfghffhfg6 күн бұрын
@"I feel the same way. I can certainly use encoders for everything, but that doesn’t mean they’re always ideal. In fact, some tasks are better suited for an encoder, while others work better with pots. People in the past paid a lot of money for pot upgrades. And sometimes stepping encoders are exactly what’s needed for the job. Personally, I wouldn’t want a smooth knob to navigate through a long list of matrix destinations (I really dislike the feel of the Waldorf Blofeld for example). I can also think of situations where choosing the number of steps per revolution would be beneficial. That’s why it’s not uncommon to find a variety of encoders, pots, and switch knobs on a single instrument. Reliability is so important with controllers, especially with one you’ve invested hours and days mapping. Simply put, it’s incredibly versatile and impressive technology.
