Florio starts the segment with one opinion, then Simms talks and speaks reason into the convo, and then Florio totally flips without even acknowledging it. He’s all of a sudden arguing on the other side, and doing it with the gusto like he knew that knowledge the whole time. Like he’s the smart one in the know. And he does this ALL THE TIME. Simms says the smart clever, nuanced stuff and then Florio just piggybacks off of it vaguely and acts like he also knew that knowledge and is just as skilled in football/sport knowledge as Simms, and it’s comical. You still have to understand what all the other skill players are doing on any given play, how the line is protecting, how the DB might try and defend you, what leverage they’re taking. Not to mention there are always 5-6 DBs at any given time that could line up against you. You gotta know what the QB wants vs particular defensive looks. It’s a totally different skill set, as Simms was saying. The explosiveness you need while still maintaining insane strength is something basketball players are not built for or accustomed to

@stever24
@stever24 21 күн бұрын
@@danielalejandrofernandez5907 Anthony Edwards is great in basketball but no, he wouldn't make an NFL team. Many of the bench warmers and practice squad players are some of the most physically gifted people in the world and they can't even make it on an NFL team. You need more than just physical abilities to play at a high level in the NFL. Considering Ant hasn't practiced/trained in football enough he will not be good in the NFL. There is no seemless transition from sport to sport. There are guys who are even more skilled than those in the NBA but just can't make it because they are too short. Look at Nikola Jokic, a 3x league MVP. Dude is not athletic at all. He ain't an insane ball handler. But he doesn't need to be because basketball doesn't require it. But he knows how to use his body to get into position to make shots and he has awareness to know where his teammates are to make good passes. He's tall and can grab rebounds because ain't no way a 6'10" guy is outrebounding him. Guys just need to be tall to play in basketball. Heck there are better shooters in the WNBA than many guys in the NBA. Answer these... What technical skill does basketball require for you to play other than being tall? An NBA team only has 15 total players. The guys who don't make an NBA team is still physically gifted. If basketball players could just waltz into the NFL and be stars why don't those guys who don't make NBA teams just go be a star TE? Now, where else in the world do you see anyone else playing American Football? If football was so easy why are there so few WRs who are taller than 6'5"? There's not a single rugby player who crossed over and became a star. Those guys are just trial-and-error players and not a single one has panned out. It's funny you mention "college basketball" guys. I assure you most of the NFL players hooped as they grew up and are still very good now. Do you think NFL players just sit on the couch and do nothing during the offseason? Many play basketball too.

@stever24
@stever24 22 күн бұрын
There’s way more finesse in football. It takes specific hand technique and body movements to get past an o-line. It takes finesse for a WR to know the route being called, reading the defense to know how far to run to make your cut, then turning and immediately catch a ball thrown at 40mph in your face. The level of hand-eye coordination to make that catch consistently is insane. Every NFL position requires a different set of technical skill that NBA players just don’t train enough and therefore would never thrive in the NFL. The guys who swapped over to the NFL had years of training before they got good. There’s no way any NBA player is coming in and making the 52man roster.

The whole idea is complete BS : those are different sports requiring a different mix of abilities and skill sets. And at the "uber" elite level we are considering here (NBA/NFL) even minute gaps in performance (two tenth of a second on the 40y dash, one inch on the vertical jump, etc) probably sets apart the 'chosen ones who actually get into the NBA or the NFL and the "also ran". As a matter of fact, I believe that many of those ultra talented athletes, have NOT chosen their sport, it's the sport that have selected them : a lot of "dual qports" athlete in high school or college, are simply offered a spot on one team and not the other.

They would much rather watch him lift and do cone drills. They want to see how much bend he has, jumping not that important. He isn't strong for a football player. @tylerholt6828 Vert has little to do with power, it has far more about moving your own body weight. He is physically gifted, but he isn't the size of a DT, and not even close to the strength. He could out run one, but he would be flattened by an offensive tackle.
@LionelLordOfTheThundercats
@LionelLordOfTheThundercats 21 күн бұрын
@tylerholt6828 Vertical jump is your acceleration against gravity, the only distance traveled is up. It is a two foot takeoff that has nothing to do with speed or first step power. It is an unnatural motion that has little to no function coming out of a down stance. The weight range for a DT is about 320-350 depending on the formation. Zion is 284 now. DEs are smaller but they are both much stronger than Zion. This idea that he has the power to play those positions because he can dunk is delusional.

I played with John Newman in HS, I was suitmates with Spud Webb and Nate McMillian at NC State and I used to play with Gary Payton at Oregon State. I could have played in the NBA easily. How many basketball players could play QB, WR or RB --All of them would have been a TE or maybe a WR or CB. I would say football guys could play in the NBA before NBA players could play in the NFL. Time they got the snot knocked out of them, it was a wrap and why they didn't play football in the first place. 🤣🤣🤣

Ya'll have to remember that in the NFL, you only play 1 side of the ball, and you literally stop after every play. The NBA is a constant back and forth, and you're playing both sides of the ball. The NBA isn't as violent as the NFL obviously, but the NBA in some ways it more physically demanding in the sense that the best players play 36-38 minutes playing both sides. Where as in the NFL some guys only play 70-80% of the downs, and that's already half of the available plays in the game.

@stever24 22 күн бұрын
The NBA is nowhere near as physically demanding. The back and forth is nowhere near as demanding as playing just one side of the football field. Most of the NBA players are just walking or jogging back and forth and not playing defense or offense. They literally are just bodies to do pick-n-rolls or waiting behind the arc for a 3 point shot. A guy drives in and anyone not guarding that guy is just staring doing nothing. Football they are constantly putting their bodies on the line, hitting each other, bruising, bleeding. It’s only one side of the field but players are using all their strength in every play and it takes way more stress on their body, thus is more physically demanding.
@DanielRidore
@DanielRidore 22 күн бұрын
@@stever24 You didn't prove any point. Guys are not constantly putting their bodies on the line because you only play 1 side of the ball. So they're sitting on the bench for half the game. On top of that only a few players play every down on offense or defense. The QB does and the O-line men do but outside of that the offensive guys rotate. Like I said the NFL is more violent and direct contact, but they also only play 1 side of the ball, most players don't play every down, and you only play once a week.
@stever24
@stever24 22 күн бұрын
@@DanielRidore They can only play one side of the ball without completely depleting their energy/strength. RBs are constantly putting their bodies on the line running full speed with the ball and getting tackled by multiple 250-300lb LBs or DL or blocking those DL in pass protection. WRs either go full speed on each route trying to get open or blocking a DB on a run play. Every player on the field is hustling and has a role even when they don’t have the ball. NBA players are not constantly running full speed back and forth on a court. Most just walk back and are barely defending anyone during any given moment, giving them plenty of time to rest while on the court. Jokic is a great player but there’s no way in hell he’s going HAM all 40min he’s playing. His body shape wouldn’t allow him to go HAM all 40min and you can see him walking a lot of the time.

@arlondwilliams971 21 күн бұрын
You also have a field that's 100 yds long and 53 yds wide. People who make this argument fail to realize, the break between plays gives football players enough energy to go full speed. That's why hits in the NFL are like car collisions. NBA players who could play WR wouldn't make it out of the game. And NBA players get plenty of breaks with foul calls these days so that argument is flawed as well

Just saying shooting a ball in a hoop is a game we play as kids. Is it a skill yes ? Name one NBA guy who can be DE with no experience or o line. Tommro or a dB? Lol qb? Wr the level of knowledge required is insane. Heck my final point. Look at our draft (NFL compared to theirs) easy argument to settle heck you can have a game off in NBA where you go 0 for 12 star player play 36mins and win. What qb can do 0 the whole game and play 36 wins. Smfh.

No. Route running is the hardest skill for a WR. None of these NBA players, who never practice route running, would never be a good WR. Running to get open from someone is MUCH different than knowing what play is called, reading defenses, knowing how far to run to perform your cut, turning in time and making a catch that’s right in your face as you turn lmao.
