Absolutely agreed. Kurt’s life was cut tragically short. I do wish he continued. It’s actually been on my mind lately. Well done as always. See you on the live.

You’re a professor of Life! If you weren’t supposed to have an audience you wouldn’t be so well articulated with your explanations and teachings, and if you weren’t supposed to help bring value and understanding to people well then you wouldn’t have the ability to teach them in the brilliant ways that you do, but you do have this ability and more importantly, you actually take the time out to share your wisdom. This is a service to our world that many don’t realize its value. Shep this is what you’re supposed to be doing and I just want to say Thanks man! Your time is upon you my friend! You Rock and thanks for being awesome! \\m//______\\m//

Kurt is one of best song writers I’ve ever heard he has a way of pulling you in and surrounding you with his own pain and damage he just makes you think about life and makes you feel like you’re not alone and he put lyrics in songs that no one else would dare to write in a song he puts words together and you understand them easily yet they have so much meaning in just one lyric

Thanks for answering this question that I posed to you. I feel the same way. Sure everlong would of been amazing with Kurt's voice and feeling but I think that is what made Kurt so good you FELT his songs and the vitriol sometimes. I completely agree with what you said but alot of people always say if Dave did more than they would have a beetles type thing of Paul & John but I don't really think so personally, I also feel Kurt was just really entering his prime as a songwriter but it was tragically and abruptly cut FAR TOO SHORT & it's a shame!😢

Songs Dave Grohl wrote that would work perfectly as darker Nirvana songs: Marigold (was a Nirvana song) How I miss you X-Static Wattershed Exhausted Winnebago The Colour and the Shape (song)

I always think about how similar they were; particularly the fact that after the beatles/nirvana ended, McCartney/Grohl made a homemade album that started them off in a new direction(Mccartney 1/Foo Fighters first album)

Because there's never been bands with total emotional opposites as songwriters... It's getting better all the time (it can't get no worse)

"songwriting isn't as good as Kurt Cobain" If we take two songs working within a similar area, say About a girl and Big Me you'd have to explain why the former is "better written" than the latter beyond the fact you just like one better than the other which does not necessarily mean it's "better written" from a technical/melodic standpoint. I think listening to both Cobain and Grohl I would argue both have a similar grasp of melody and dynamics if you put their best songs up against each other. Both songwriters overly rely on quiet/loud dynamic formula (though Cobain may have moved away from this ultimately) lyrically they are not particularly strong and also can suffer from repetition however Cobain's delivery is better, I think he is the superior singer and more compelling/natural frontman though both only really have two vocal settings: not as loud in the verse and scream/shout in the chorus but Grohl's voice is less interesting and he seems more limited in what he can do with his voice. I don't feel there's much between them at their best as songwriters but Cobain delivered his songs better within the context of Nirvana who were a better band with chemistry and its own identity/sound whereas Grohl is a weaker singer delivering a similar calibre of songs in an inferior band that doesn't have the sloppy character that Cobain/Novoselic brought to Nirvana.

Yeah i feel like both are great songwriters, just different. Having more "edge" doesn't make it better or more authentic. Both are great in their own right and both had a great sense of melody. Both are very charismatic but i agree that Kurt had a better vision for the whole band's image. Both have great voices, Kurt was just "weirder" with it at times. Dave followed a formula but that doesn't make his voice any less unique in my opinion. I can agree that Nirvana was more cohesive in terms of image than the Foo Fighters, but Dave and Taylor were a match made in Heaven as rock band dynamics go.

@@_MrAvocado_ I love your response and I absolutely agree with you on many levels and your analysis of the loud quiet songwriting is spot on, but I feel like Dave Grohl lacks what I’m looking for in this gut punching music which doesn’t contradict what you’re saying I’m just talking personal preferences at this point, thank you for such a eloquent breakdown.🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🤘

Big Me is four chords all the way through and is fine for what it is, About a girl is essentially a punk rendition of a beatles song, with a key change for the chorus. its pretty easy to state why one is more interesting than the other.
@_MrAvocado_
@_MrAvocado_ 2 ай бұрын
@@TheNeverists666 well I didn't say "more interesting" and i don't find chord/key change counting as a way to determine whether a song is "more interesting" For example, Eleanor Rigby despite having fewer chords and no key change compared to AAG I would still find it to be "more interesting" overall due to its lyrical content and arrangement. See also: Paperback Writer, Tomorrow Knows. I just feel Grohl and Cobain are roughly on par as songwriters. Grohl was capable of writing AAG and Cobain BM; they had roughly comparable wheelhouses and weren't that far away form each other in terms of songwriting ability.

@@shepgold You're welcome. But yeah, to me Grohl feels like he's screaming because "that's what you're meant to do in the chorus" a stylistic choice whereas Cobain was screaming because it was a catharsis. It feels more real/believable

@@HaydenMcNab what you’re saying actually doesn’t address the question though so I guess you’re saying it doesn’t matter if Dave Grohl was part of the process because either way they wouldn’t be making good music because you don’t like their music that’s your fair take that’s fine

@@HaydenMcNab so you don’t think they would’ve been any better or worse if Dave Grohl became a primary songwriter along with Kurt Cobain because you don’t think they were very good at all. I think I understand what you’re saying and I think it’s a fair take I was just saying that they would be better if Dave Grohl wasn’t a primary songwriter and you just said nirvana wasn’t good at all so it doesn’t matter you’re not disagreeing with me you’re telling me that Nirvana isn’t a good band because you don’t enjoy them and I get that.
