Go to one of the great deserts of the world and sometimes the only thing you’ll hear is your own heartbeat and breathing.

Nearby Breezy Point is the rest of Jamaica Bay Wild Refuge, a national park in NYC. The biggest source of noise pollution is the aviation training from the NYPD. Other natural areas outside the Jamaica Bay Wild Refuge like Idlewild get noise pollution from the JFK airport, and in Pugsley Creek in the Bronx, from LGA. When we talk about protecting these "quiet spaces", it means protecting them from the noise pollution of police academies, airports, all things some people would argue are essential. I appreciate this project's research into "quiet spaces", but in order to protect these spaces they care about, I hope they're prepared to confront the sources of noise pollution.

I don’t even like hanging by the water because the noise prevents my hyper vigilance from settling. Probably because I can’t hear anything else.

So ironic that the advertisement in the background is from Stihl chainsaws and equipment with their loud obnoxious sounds, especially blowers. They need to be banned 😬 Quiet has the power to heal 💖

American should really stop using USA to represent the whole world. That is not the quiet place in the world because you guys did not make a comparison to all places around the globe. In Africa in particular there are countless quiet places around every corner. But since it is not talked about no one can make a report about those places.
