'You cant eat it unless we can collect your poo.' Or... scoop out the seeds? I made a calzone with some tomatoes but I took out the seeds cause I didn't want the liquidy insides to sogify my calzone.

@@chadsimmons6347 Because it can't leave the nursery yet. It's not that you'll never be able to eat it you just can't right now. Once they have fully developed it to their liking you can bet they'll probably breed a strain of it that has infertile seeds and then they'll start selling them.

It is awfully suspicious that they wouldn't let her taste the tomato. For those who have never eaten a tomato before, the seeds add nothing to the flavor. She could have tasted the "meat" of the tomato and the seeds could have been strained out so she could taste the juice. By the way, there are naturally-occurring purple heirloom tomatoes (they tend to taste a little more "tomato-ey" than most commercially-grown red tomatoes and yes, you can find them in stores), so they may have done something in a laboratory that nature did long ago.

It's likely that they have not been approved for human consumption yet, so it's not only the seed issue that they're worried about.

They just don’t want to risk any seed getting out the lab if she eats some and they have missed a seed, when she poops it could end up in the wild
