I would be interested to see a brand develop a two putter system. A light, efficient one designed for for doing short strokes more consistently, and then a more forgiving one for longer ones. Idk if it would actually help, but if it did it’s absolutely worth a slot in the bag. The number of shots per round carrying a 3 wood and a 5 wood or whatever long club actually improves is so small compared to what improved putting could do
@dball70

These are great points. There is no rule that says you cannot have two putters in your bag, as long as you are under the 14 club limit. Phil Mickelson used two different drivers one year at the Masters! Also, to your point, I have seen people with a hybrid and a lofted fairway metal that fly the same distance or two wedges that are only a couple of degrees difference and have the same bounce and grind (why not just open the face of one a little?). I more traditional putter for longer putts (if you need it) and then this one to make the ones that count! :)

how many extremely long putts are you having per round? lol You could always just buy a longer heavier putter and carry two in your bag. Im just not sure what you mean by developing a two putter system, they already make putters that are easier to hit hard, what would you be looking for?
@michaelpduggan
@michaelpduggan 3 ай бұрын
@@mike-mz6yz I think most putters try to be good for everything, I just wonder what a company might develop if they set with the goal of making two that compliment each other. Not certain it would yield much better results, but it could be interesting. @ricksh. I think the point is to improve shorter puts. IE under 10 ft. If I sunk even 30-50% more of my “short puts” my score would improve drastically. For most people I feel this would apply as well as the fact that most normal golfers puts over 15-20 ft it really doesn’t matter if I use a cobblers mallet or a pool que if I sink them I look at it as having a great day. (I would say I sink on average 3 out of 10 of my puts of 15ft or longer and 5 -7 out of 10 at 14 ft or shorter so to improve my short puts by 30 to 50% would probably better my scorecard by at least 3-5 strokes per 9 holes which would be a huge improvement overall. And I think that is what they where focusing on here

I mean i play a decent amount of golf and i probably hit a 60 plus foot putt twice a year lol If the putter can make you sink 1% more of your putts inside 15 feet then it more than makes up for any suffering on insanely long putts. Still i think they could have made it just a tiny bit bigger so that it has at least some margin for error.

I have read almost all of the comments on this video so far. There is a common theme that the IB putter is “ugly” and/or it looks like an expensive training aid. As an avid player and someone who plays a lot of great clubs and courses in America, I have seen people spend $600 on a driver that only gives them marginal improvement (if any) and they can only hit it a max of 14 times in a round. BTW, I think some of these new putters are hideous looking but I know people use them for the results and if it works for them and keeps them playing, that is great for the game. These are fundamentally different approaches as the LAB is more about forgiveness while the IB Putter is more about focus. As for being an expensive training aid, I also have seen people spend a lot of money on aids (Trackman, etc.) or lessons with teachers that aren’t that knowledgeable. Even if it is used as just a training aid, if it helps you focus even when you go back to your normal putter, that’s a good thing! That said, I have actually used this putter in regular rounds for a few months now (after just practicing with it for a week or two) and it have found that I am making more putts per round, especially short to mid-range ones under pressure. There is no rule that says you can’t have two putters in your bag (remember Phil Mickelson carried two drivers during one Masters)…and use this one for the “money putts”. Heck, take that 60 degree wedge out and just open the face a bit more on the regular sand wedge or get rid of that extra fairway metal that goes the same distance as your hybrid, and you are good to go with two putters! :)

The issue with putting is even if you pick the perfect line and you’re a great putter, there’s always some anomaly on the green that will potentially throw your putt off whether it’s a dip/dent or slight imperfection. Unless you’re playing some of the best courses in the world, most local municipal greens aren’t perfect. My local courses greens are atrocious. I’m just happy to get it within a guaranteed tap in. 😂

A lot of negative comments below but I note that Rick got a bunch of putts in the ladder drill - with a putter NEW to him - and yet no one is amazed? I think we all agree putting is important - very - so perhaps this putter has a place for short putts and carry another putter? After all putting is 1/3 of golf so 2/14 clubs is ok?

I went back and watched the video again and paid more attention to his putts. His first two were not bad considering he just started with it. In the ladder drill, he hits the first 5 in a row (granted the first one was very short), then had the 6th one in the heart but left it just short and the 7th (longest in the drill and hit after he stopped to talk to camera) lipped out but was pretty much right on line. His next mid range putts were also pretty darn good and then he goes to the super long putts. The one he said he mishit looked like it hit another hole first which is why it was so short. He then got into his own head but despite that, rolled two just about the perfect weight. Contrary to what he says, he actually demonstrated that this worked well for him with very little time invested.

@@dball70 Yep _ The "unbox and test" video format is very common on KZbin, but is fundamentally a bit flawed as it compares the new (therefore unfamiliar) to the familiar .... Most new things are dismissed for a time - some deservedly so - but some not so deservedly! ... for example I am old enough to remember the derision that the following suffered initially: non-metal spikes, metal woods, graphite shafts, putters that look like spaceships, the claw grip, belly putters, and solid golf balls ... The belly putter was eventually even banned because it was winning majors (3/4 consecutive).

@@QGolfClub Great observations. A product like this is new and intimidating looking, so people have jumped to conclusions and some say it is “trash”. To your point, if the ball goes in the hole more because it makes you focus, especially on the “must make” putts, then what serious player wouldn’t consider it? And your comment about it being 1/3 of shots so being 2/14 clubs is SO logical. After all, people carry multiple wedges and even woods/hybrids that are not providing that much different a shot. One of those could easily go IF they feel they need a different putter for long putts, but I actually think with some practice, this could be the only one needed in the bag anyway!

People carry multiple wedges, irons and woods, don't they?? Why only one putter? Golf club makers have talked people into thinking they need 2 drivers, tons of wedges, etc., why not talk you into that you need at least 3 putters?! I had the opportunity to play with Ivan in Spain at the course Seve grew up on last year and he had a prototype of this putter. It did not even have the wings on it with extra scoring lines but he made everything with it so I was intrigued. I got one of these which conforms to the rules by the R&A earlier this year and spent a few days practicing with it, hitting short and long putts. I found my putts got better and better the more I used it and my consistency improved. I started taking it out to play casual rounds of golf with it and then competitive events including the Florida State Interclub Finals, Pro-Scratch events (I am an amateur) and a recent event, where we played courses that have recently hosted a U.S. Open and a Ryder Cup. I can tell you that this has made me a better putter and I have had rounds where I have just lit it up on the greens with this and I have had other players, including a lot of pros ask me about it because they have seen me drain a bunch of them from all ranges. The really long putts are a little less comfortable due to a longer back swing but I lag them just as well as I do my Scotty Cameron or Versa 7 mallet style putter. The putts inside 15 feet go in more and the ones inside 4 feet are almost automatic! It appears they were going in here as well even on the first tries so I am not sure why it gets a “no go” rating. Who doesn’t want to make these “money putts”? In my honest opinion, this video is a bit unfair because it takes more time to adjust to such a new design but I promise, after a couple of days of practice a traditional putter will start to feel like the odd one.

When you are on the course, playing a round, you take the time to line up the puts with the line on the ball. With this putter, I didn't see that. I would think with this putter I would think that would need to be paramount.

I tried this putter out in American Golf… It is a gimmick! If you have the slightest off-centre hit with it, it misses the target by a country mile. I once bought two wedges from MD Golf because of them having Seve Ballesteros's signature on them, they two turned out to be expensive gimmicks. Once bitten twice shy… Believe me, if it ain't got the quality branding name on it, it ain't worth the purchase… I’d be reluctant to part with 349 washers for that putter 😂

I think the fundamental issue with this putter is the weight is too light. It suffers on longer putts because it forces so much arm power instead of weight and gravity doing it.

This one is 373 grams (that’s what it actually says on the side of the putter, which he did not point out in the video) and it is made with a high grade aluminum (hence the cost). There is talk of one at 410 grams which I would like to try next, but this one feels great as is.

I agree, the problem is that the companies making stuff have rich directors so they look at this rubbish and just go "yeah it's crap, sell it for peanuts @ £350" a lot of money to mere mortals is pocket change to these business directors etc coming up with the price point. But I guess they are not targeting an average person, they are targeting the rich who also look at stuff and just go "ah it's only £350, I'll give it ago"

As someone who has had to make little sliders under pressure with this putter, I was thinking the same thing when I watched the final hole of U.S. Open. When they showed a close up of Rory’s putt on 18 (which was a more difficult putt than many people realize), you could see he hit it a bit on the toe and that’s probably why it lost speed and missed low. Because this putter makes you focus so much, you are more likely to hit it solid and keep the inertia that while hold the line.

Wait what? What a weird review?!?! I am new to this guy’s channel but he is pretty contradictory! I mean I am guessing he has some deal with Lab for sure. For starters, it’s called a "Sweet Spot" putter so testing it straight away and giving instant thoughts is nuts, it is of course going to be different. I would give my right arm for a putter that makes me focus and putt 5/7 of those ladder drill putts!!!! Also isn’t that the point...a putter that means your putting improves ten fold, instead of looking for a putter that will allow you to be sloppy and loose? I get that it’s different than a Lab or a traditional putter but I am sure Ivan Ballesteros knew what he was designing. I am sure Seve would have made room in his bag for a putter that will deliver those money putts. After all, he used to tie a club head to a branch with twine and practice hitting balls on the beach. Actually, kind of disrespectful to Seve and Ivan as well if I am honest. I mean considering this guy’s long putts (inconsistent and erratic) and his self appointed golf expertise. How about instead of knee jerk reaction but be professional. I am not sure this review should be really considered. Not only does the reviewer waffle, contradict himself but he actually proved the sweet spot putter’s value. He even says this may be the best putter I ever used after five putts. Then ignores the result and says it’s a no as a putter. I guarantee if that guy played six months with the IB he would be a better player by a mile. I found this video and better explains the putter kzbin.info/www/bejne/rp-meZKebpWqna8feature=shared
