@@lesliefranklin1870 I think 2 years is pretty amazing for development of a prototype - If a company had intended to put it into manufacture they would have been designing the methods of manufacture alongside the prototype in order to determine costs. Of course, they also would have made changes along the way that were effected by the cost to manufacture (he mentioned the curved door) so it is unlikely this exact camper would make sense financially for the manufacturer - usually the financial risk forces them to keep initial costs as low as possible.
@Greg-yu4ij3 жыл бұрын
Simply fantastic. The only thing he may want to do is store water in the front for long trips. The camper is balanced, which is great but the tongue weight looks too low to properly stabilize it. At highway speeds it may develop an oscillation which could tear it apart.

Sweet micro-camper! When I rebuilt an RV in the '90s, I fabricated many things in the same manner. One BIG problem, though -- he has no safety chains when towing. If the hitch should break, the trailer would run wild and could cause damage/injuries to others.

This camper is amazing. I would buy one if I could or make one if it was a kit. Think you should talk to caravan manufacturers about your design and possibilities of making kits for people to make their own. i think the major deterrents for people are the skills and experience required to build the camper. he works with wood and has a degree in engineering which give him the tools to make something safe and functional. i'm pretty sure the camper cost less than the ready-made one. esp. if you factor in durability but what the guy saves in $, he pays in time. but he enjoys it so why not?
@dadcanufixit7 жыл бұрын
Rei W. I think the term "a degree of Engineering" in this case means he has some knowledge, not a full on batchelors of engineering. He has been producing trade stands for expo's and conferences so knows how to build "showroom standard" fininshed items. He then applied this knowledge to his desire to build himself a recreational trailer and because of his skillset he could complete it in the timeframe he did. Most average DIY'ers could do this but the time frame would be excessive and the finnish would be probably not be the same.
