'Couldn't Intimidate India': Putin Mocks West, Applauds PM Modi For Standing With Russia

Russian President Vladimir Putin has applauded Indian PM Narendra Modi. Putin said that India-Russia ties are deepening despite the West's pressure because of Modi. He added that Modi didn't get intimidated by the West about cutting ties with Russia. The praise comes just days after a big statement by India's External Affairs Minister. Normalised relations with China will most likely not happen, and if at all they do, they can only happen from a position of strength (for us). We need to pursue a muscular policy as regards everything pertaining to China. Strength respects strength, and if you have real power and are capable of sabre-rattling backed by strength, you often don't need to use it.

During the Indo-Pakistan war in december 1971 which resulted the birth of Bangladesh, the Soviet Navy stopped the US 7th fleet (a group of 10 navy ships (task force 74) which were heading from south vietnam towards India at bay of bengal. The russian navy stayed there until January 2nd 1972 to make sure that there were no further escalations from US side. This was because of the treaty signed by India and russia for cooperation in military and friendship. There are many incidents which India cannot forget, certainly Russia was a friend in need and they are a friend indeed.
