Council members reunited after Handforth Zoom argument goes viral

Earlier this month an unlikely political hero emerged after the bad-tempered workings of Handforth Parish Council went viral. (Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
Hundreds of thousands of people viewed footage of no-nonsense official Jackie Weaver muting elected councillors during their bad-tempered planning meeting.
Tonight, Handforth Parish Council is meeting again and we are at the Cheshire village.

The problem with most people commenting on here is that they do not understand that Jackie Weaver had absolutely no authority in that meeting. She was appointed as an advisor, not Chair or even clerk. Only the Chair can remove someone from a meeting and then only after a vote to exclude the person by members. The official inquiry found that actually, Jackie Weaver was the one at fault.

Wasn’t the argument made that the chair had specifically stated that the meeting hadn’t started, therefore those rules didn’t apply and technically they were just a bunch of people in a zoom call in which Jackie Weaver was the host and could have removed anyone she liked.

@@lucas411_ She started the meeting with the Chair in the waiting room as she excluded him before the meeting started - so he was not in the meeting at the start. She then asked members to elect a new Chair - but if the Chair is not there, the vice-Chair takes over. When this was pointed out to her, she chucked the vice-Chair out. She then asked other councillors if they wanted to readmit them. That is not in line with standing orders and therefore illegal. Her handling of the whole meeting was completely shocking to anyone with a knowledge of Local Government

Person brought in as tech support oversteps their bounds by booting people out of a council meeting despite having no right to do so, then starts booting the people who called them out for doing so. Don't get me wrong, the whole council acted like plonkers but Weaver was not the person to take that action, subverting the activities of a locally elected body.

Lady at 02:47 - defending "Mr Burkhill". As a resident of Handforth for around 18 years, I can't remember ONE positive thing he has done. Since his election as Mayor and then changing the rules so that he could remain as Councillor for Handforth, he has done nothing but Object to motions put forward for the people of Handforth. He was also instrumental in REDUCING the maximum grant amount of the council from 1000 to 500. This is applied for by local groups that need funding for local projects. (PS the Standing Orders still say 1000). I guess the self disqualification clock has now started for both Mr Burkhill and Mr Brewerton, as neither officially offered apologies for this meeting, with Mr Tolver making an excuse for Mr Burkhill not attending, not actually reading a formal notice of apologies. Cheshire East Council also showed their ineffectiveness today, when the motion of No Confidence was deferred to the Standards Committee, with no date being set for that meeting.

Jackie did not read the standing orders. She did not read them and understand them! She was the baddie all along.
