This is what happens on an island 3 times bigger than Ireland BUT with 12 times the population. Similar developments in change in economic structure are happening in Ireland as the population increases and people move from farming to leisure use of land such as parks, golf courses and equestrian centres. There is also a move from generic meat and plant produce to high end localised produce with specific protections of origin and names for such produce. Britain could never be self sufficient in food given its extremely dense population and economic structure and land use. What they could do is protect names of produce, cheese being a good example, where cheddar would have to be made in England to be called cheddar. The EU does this all the time with geographic naming of foodstuffs. Brexit probably ruins this though.

Those videos from her as a teenager take me back to Model UN events here in the US where kids from all the schools came. There were always Liz Truss' there: not rich, but not poor like me Kids born into comfort comparatively, from better schools than some of us, themsevmes not very bright but had been told their entire lives they had a first access line on whatever is right and innovative. I'm looking forward to her disastrous time as PM. If she just did OK the UK would just bumble along as normal. The rich getting even richer the poor getting even poorer. Everything gradually falling apart but within what has become our 'comfort zone' of shit. But a really terrible PM making lots of bad decisions will send the UK in such a tailspin that a radical social change may finally come about. We have to hit rock bottom first.
