Anxiety is distressing at any age. For children, anxious symptoms can affect the functioning and dynamics at home. Part of supporting children involves integrating tools that engage caregivers. Setting the expectation from the beginning of treatment helps to keep families engaged and can help to ensure that the child has adults who are reinforcing healthy anxiety management techniques. In this video, I share a bit about how I work with children who experience anxiety.
In this video:
Completing the assessment
Sessions with the caregivers
Sessions with the child
Psychoeducation
Coping strategies
Integrating the caregiver

This is so important, especially now with COVID. My kids have been super anxious.❤️ Calming meditation and also visualizing ourselves in our favorite places, really using our senses to feel like we’re there helps a lot.

You have provided an informative and wonderful video. Thank you. I would like to hear more about your strategies for coping with separation anxiety with 10-year-old children! Another topic that could really be helpful is the assessment process for depression and anxiety with children.

This is a very beautiful video. Helpful . I was wondering with regard to the body mapping. I have few children who states they don't know how their body feels . This is happens with those who are diagnosed with ADHD. So I would like to know how can we help kids with ADHD and anxiety pay attention to their bodies. So body mapping can work

Thanks for your feedback and question. I might start with an exercise like body scanning, progressive muscle relaxation, or having them give themselves gentle massages to help increase body awareness. At each step, I might add a directive like, “and notice how your arm feels.” Hope this helps!

Meyleen, I have a few questions regarding how to help the clients feel comfortable enough to open up with you. As well as what is the best way to interact and help a child when he or she does not talk and is introverted. Do you have any suggestions on what I can do to best help the child or any resources I can use.

Hi Stephany, I will share a couple of things that are helpful to me, but please note that so much depends on the specific needs of the child. For example, collaborating with the child/family will depend on the child's age, developmental needs, and many other intersectional factors. I find it helpful to rely on child-directed play therapy as we can then meet the child in a connected way. I've also found it helpful to name the feeling or what you notice in the space, like "you are not sure you want to be here." A third suggestion is to seek consultation as this will be the best space to obtain support. Thanks!
