The fact Sunny smiles warmly at Basil when Basil wakes up makes me believe the friends forgave him. If they had not forgiven Sunny, it would have likely wrecked him entirely. I think there’s a difference between hating a character in a game and hating the game itself. The Black Space segment was supposed to make you become increasingly disturbed by Omori as a character. With Omori disregarding all the horrible deaths of Basil and having to option to cut open Mewo, the game makes you see Omori as the villain in Sunny’s head. And the Truth segment has Sunny getting his fingers cut off and face distorted to show how much he hates himself for what happened. So I think his greatest fear is that his friends will hate him as much as he hates himself upon finding out what happened Mari.

Omori is a sort of protector, he protected Sunny from the truth, whether it was in a good way or not. Although, you saw the truth, so in turn Omori failed, so now, he tries to push Sunny over the edge so he can stop everything altogether. Sunny fights Omori, kind of symbolizing he's fighting to accept the truth and own up. If you decide not to continue, it would be easily inferred what might happen. Although in the end, Omori accepted defeat.
@ARandomBoi_NothingToSeeHere3 жыл бұрын
I actually always thought that Omori isn't a full on personality. He's born almost as an "avatar" for Sunny to use to explore Headspace, yet at that point Omori still blocked off (or tried to) any path Sunny could take to discover the truth (which is why Basil gets deleted from Headspace altogether, he's basically a trigger to Sunny). Once Sunny discovers the truth, Omori didn't have a purpose in Sunny's subconscious anymore, so he started to represent Sunny's guilt (which is also why the game says that "Omori will not succumb", you can't stop feeling guilt, you can just accept it and stop crying over it). Sunny didn't "fight himself", he accepted his guilt and moved on. If Sunny gives up, he's overtaken by Omori, aka his guilt, which now controls his actions. Not thinking about ANYTHING besides guilt, Sunny decides to jump off. Omori didn't do that, Sunny did.
@ApexGale3 жыл бұрын
One final thing: the flowers at the end also go to show that Sunny's natural empathy to everyone else shows that his life is worth living. In just 3 days he touched the hearts of so many people in his town as opposed to the 4 years he spent home alone. Think of how many people would miss him if he were gone. That's why suicide is so troubling. People often don't realize how many others care about them so much. The reason why Sunny finally tells them the truth is because he realizes how important it is for a healthy relationship to be one without deceit. They may feel hurt, but without the truth none of them can receive closure. They *need* to know the circumstances of Mari's death - they all felt guilt over her supposed suicide, feeling like they were bad friends. Sunny telling them the truth frees *all of them* of that burden, and lets them start over properly.

The biggest question on everybody's mind, usually, is "Did the friends forgive Sunny?" ... the answer, at least in my opinion (the game never explicitly tells you this): (spoilers for those who haven't watched it yet): The "secret cutscene" with Basil waking up shows Sunny standing at Basil's bedside. He warmly smiles at Basil and Basil smiles back. If the friends had refused to forgive Sunny or reacted harshly/badly/etc, do you think Sunny would have had the strength to stand there and smile at Basil like that, or would he have retreated back to his hospital room and broke down again? Sunny had just had a heart-wrenching fight with his inner demons, and one of the things Omori used to assault Sunny with was "Your friends will never forgive you" and Sunny decided to put trust and faith in his friends. If they had refused to forgive him, it would have wrecked Sunny. Sunny smiling at Basil is, IMO, proof that they did in fact forgive him. I could imagine Hero or maybe Aubrey saying something like "Hey I forgive you but I need time to think about this", perhaps.
@pluto31943 жыл бұрын
I feel like Aubrey would be the quickest to forgive in that scenario since she almost had a similar thing happen to her with Basil at the lake. Hero would be the one who would most likely not forgive Sunny & Basil but I still think that he would. Definitely agree that the secret cutscene happening heavily implies that they at the very least didn't get angry with the 2 of them, and that the whole thing probably went over as well as it could
@Artsu19933 жыл бұрын
I think they need to process what sunny said. So they haven't forgiven them yet, but they aren't in the room so sunny could smile at Basil. Even when they understand what happend they still would have hard time forgiving, even when they would want to.

The thing is, they would need a little time. Especially Hero. So while I believe at least most of them would forgive, I don't know if it'd be while they're still standing in that room
@youwhat.2 жыл бұрын
I would like to think that Sunny would be OK even if his friends don't forgive him. I didn't take the final message as him defeating Omori with the "power of friendship" trope where he believes in his friends and their forgiveness. I think he forgave himself and accepted that he needed to acknowledge and live in the truth even if his friends would end up hating him. If anything, him smiling at Basil is only proof that he forgave Basil and himself. It says nothing about his friends, in my opinion.
@roy-cm4wo2 жыл бұрын
The developers probably intentionally didn’t give any facial expression to their friends because It wasn’t about his friends, he wasn’t seeking for forgiveness. He was seeking to change and that’s why Basil smiling back and seeing that Sunny’s burden go away made his go away too.

What personally hit me the hardest about the Omori finale was the theme of forgiving yourself. I think fewer people can relate to that one and most relate to having lost a loved one, but for me, forgiving myself for things that happened in my childhood is so extremely hard. As a child, sometimes you do really bad things that are either accidents, or you just can't comprehend the magnitude of what you're doing. Sunny!" and all the other distorted sounds were Mari falling down the stairs and during the fight with Omori, Sunny was fighting his most traumatic moment, reliving the time Mari died. Interestingly, the figures behind Omori when he's super dark and pelting you with erases, you can make the four figures, one of which had a bow, and its the others getting [Trigger warning] hung the same way Mari was and Omori was implying that was going to happen to his friends if he tells the truth.

What a beautiful game. Let's gooo There's much more on the ''omori route'' or Black Space 2, but it's mostly horror stuff and some unconscious Sunny thoughts we didn't knew until then, i reccomend you, Counselor, to watch something about it! Even for just curiosity haha. I think this game just fits perfectly with your playthrough, analytical but still charmin'. Hope you did like it :). It's like Stardew Valley, i just ''spread'' the word to every friend play it

I don’t know but I just really liked seeing how she kept her composure during the final duet scene. It’s a nice detail showing how good she is at her job as a therapist. Because everytime I watch the final duet scene I burst into tears. Every. Single. Time. That cutscene is just super powerful to me. She kept her composure and looked as if she was listening and taking it in through her expressions. It’s so interesting to see how other people are able to handle such situations and it’s very interesting to me to see therapists handling emotional scenes. This isn’t to say she wasn’t feeling emotions during that scene, I’m just applauding at the skill to be able to take in such an emotionally overcoming scene as it’s a tough skill to learn as a therapist during therapy sessions to not make it all about them by crying or being in distress and focus more on the patient. Just a random thought I decided to put on a comment.

I’m not a very sentimental person. Even when I experience strong emotions, I don’t show them much. But the first time I played this last part of the game…man, it was impactful. That final duet scene is so powerful; it’s the culmination of so much emotional and thematic build-up, a gut-wrenching climax. It’s the closest a work of fiction has brought me to cry. For the story alone, this is definitely one of my favorite video games of all time. The symbolism and portrayal of depression, anxiety, and guilt left me thinking for weeks and weeks. I’ve seen a lot of people play this game online, and in every single one of those playthroughs, the person playing notices something I never did, and it leaves me thinking for another extra week. It’s amazing how many layers this game has. This has been one of my favorite playthroughs of this game-the professional perspective you gave is extremely valuable, and it helped appreciate this game even more. Excuse me as I lose myself in thought again for the next week or so. Haha.

The Omori OST is amazing isn't it? Omori's boss battle for example: The song is composed by only springed instruments, and you can perfectly feel the dread, fear and melancholia on the song. And as the fight progresses, the song gets more and more distorded, maybe showing that the internal fight it's getting harder and harder, like it's pointless to keep fighting. You can't just erase your demons, at least, not completely. And at some point it gets so distorded that you can hear screams (or what should be screams) and at some point you can hear someone screaming "STOP IT!!" (18:08), maybe that could be MARI trying to stop Sunny from drop his violin, and the screams and moans could be of their fight before the incident. Final Duet it's only made to make you suffer and make you cry nonstop for 1 week. And we have the song that plays after Sunny wakes up (26:28) and that one is special for me. That song feels so "light", like that feeling of when you take out a huge weight of your shoulders. And fun fact: The song is named "Clean Slate", and indeed, it's a clean slate for Sunny, a new start, a new life. He accepted the Truth, defeated Omori, and finally said the Truth for his friends. Sunny leaved out a huge weight out of his shoulders, and that songs perfectly describes that.

I like how the choice in the omori fight, is whether if you want to forgive yourself or not. A yes or a no, in the game the choice is so easy to make however when you actually face the choice in real life it is actually quite difficult to forgive yourself.

You survive without cry any tear on final duet (when sunny plays with mari). That councelor training really works xD. Honestly, almost everyone cries into that part the first time they plays. The fight with Omori made me very emotional when I first went through it. A lot of what he said felt like I was hearing my own intrusive thoughts bluntly laid out in front of me. The dialogue filled with seething, relentless self deprication hit very close to home. What an astounding game this is, to be able to truly encapsulate that downward spiral of self hatred many people go through alone. Really incredible.

The scene where he wakes up in the hospital bed crying really got to me. Part of it is because of the scene with his sister, but I also think part of it is because he's alive and has to confront his worst fear, telling the truth.

I know there's other games you want to play, but I have a suggestion for you. It's a game called Yume Nikki. It's very mysterious, so much so that we don't know who the creator is beyond a username. It's similar to Omori in that you play in the dream world of a hikikomori (and it's made in RPGMaker), but there's no dialogue and it's a lot more abstract. Everything has as much meaning as you ascribe to it. There is no "official" story; it's like a bunch of elements spread out for you to connect somehow. It would be interesting to see a therapist's take on it and have you go crazy theorizing about every little detail. It's really cryptic, though, so you'd probably need the comments or chat to help. It's on Steam. (The free one, not the one that costs money, that one's basically a fan game.)

I understand how the kind of things Omori says during the fight could be upsetting or triggering for some people. But personally, it feels like seeing those kind of thoughts in fiction makes it easier to understand it when it happens in real life. You have the perspective of a character experiencing that, so it becomes easier to recognize on your own that your destructive thoughts aren't reality either. But of course, that's just my personal experience, and everyone is different.

Hi! Just want to say I really enjoyed this series. Omori has become my favorite game because of how it touched me, and getting to watch your experience and hear your thoughts as you played has been a great experience. I think it would be really cool to see a video on your full thoughts from start to end, but if you're going to do that, I'd recommend also looking more into some of the details that you may have missed or didn't pick up on, as well as potentially looking at the information we learn from the Hikkikomori route. Also, the truth photos where you learn about what really happened have descriptions that are found in the game's data, which I'm sure someone has mentioned before somewhere. You can find those online pretty easily as well. Gathering some of that information may be interesting to see what might be different from your perspective or what might change your perspective on certain things, and I think it would compliment a full thoughts type of video. Anyway, I look forward to seeing more of your content in the future, and I'm glad you've shared your experience with Omori with all of us.
