Tricky day today. 721: Found lots of ways to hit 720 (9 * 8 * 50/(4+1), among others). 507: 50*10 + 7 982: Thought I had 981 but made a very silly error (25*(10+5+5) is not 1000, though there is a different way to get to 1000 - 10 - 9). Two impossible 1-large problems in one episode! 649: Got it at the last moment. (100+25+75) * 3 + 50 - 1.

I think I got 507. Should have had 649, but for today only, 75 x 9 was equal to 650 instead of 675.

My convoluted solutions to get 1-away on the 1st and 3 impossible puzzles were: For 721: 720=9x(50+1+(8x4)-3) For 982: 981=(5x10)x(25-5)-9-10

In the first numbers round, I had these solutions for 720: 50 + 9 + 1 = 60 60 x 4 x 3 = 720 8 x 4 = 32 50 + 32 + 1 = 83 83 - 3 = 80 80 x 9 = 720 50 x 9 x 8 = 3600 4 + 1 = 5 3600 / 5 = 720 And this for 722: 4 x 3 = 12 12 + 1 = 13 50 x 13 = 650 9 x 8 = 72 650 + 72 = 722 The problem with the second numbers round is that with only one odd number and an odd target, truly unique solutions are few and far between. There are lots of ways of complicating how you get to 500 before adding the 7, but few that aren't just 500 + 7. However, for the sake of doing something different, I did have this: 50 + 7 = 57 10 + 8 = 18 18 / 2 = 9 57 x 9 = 513 513 - 6 = 507 In the third numbers round, the solution for 981 (I couldn't find any for 983) was: 25 - 5 = 20 20 x 10 x 5 = 1000 1000 - 10 - 9 = 981 And in the final numbers round, CECIL once again delivers up an easy target for a four-large round. Not necessarily. Getting an easy one means you keep the lead going into the conundrum but you probably don't put the game out of reach either. If you're more confident on the numbers, it may make sense to hope for a tricky numbers round and not have to worry about the conundrum. However, given that he had made his lead on the letters and was actually down 7 points in the previous numbers rounds, I think in his position I'd rather play for an easy one and try to stay ahead going into the conundrum. (Me personally, I'm much better at the numbers and would have gone 3 large - 7 points isn't enough to end it, and 4 large too often doesn't have an exact solution.)

There are 3 rules that I wish were in the Numbers. 1: The solution must use at least 4 of the 6 numbers. 2: The solution can't exceed 999 at any point. 3: NO SOLUTION IS IMPOSSIBLE!!!
