Some issues with the attrition phase. The unit in Leyte isn't destroyed, since the last step of a unit is only eliminated if it is both out of supply *and* it is out of range of a friendly HQ (whether that HQ is itself in supply or not). So MacArthur managed to keep it alive, though it won't matter too much. The same applies to the units in Sumatra. Good turn. I probably would have tried to put Allied air near Malaya to then evacuate those troops on the next card. Sure, Japan would almost definitely then attack it, but there's a good chance you can get reaction and then move the Allied ships up which can absorb the damage. It's risky, but those units aren't doing too much beyond being a speed bump as they are. By the way, the reaction roles are 10% more likely than you think, as 0 on the die is zero rather than ten, and you need

Thanks for that correction and advice! I'll fix my attrition errors on the next installment.

You’re welcome. I’m relatively new to this so obviously check everything I’m saying with the manual. Be interesting to see how this game goes. I did my own starter-game but ended up with both sides grinding to a halt as any attacks would just be suicidal and the allies was only going to get stronger on the next turns.

Also that range deanolium talks about is not blocked by unneutralized AZOI. You just count out the range. So note that if ABDA never makes it on the board or is eliminated once it does get on, all the Dutch 1-6 regiments die.

Great video again! I'm watching these with my son and based on the explanations we're confident enough to get this out finally. Can't wait for the next one.

Thanks for the videos!! Very helpful! I think the ABDA hq w the Dutch air might be entitled to a Special Reaction roll to the invasion of Toloekbetocng as per rule 7.27 (2nd ed 3rd printing). Not sure though, as i am learning!

After watching this video again I do not think your error in game state was indeed in error. Your initial hand of cards was 5. Turn one, round one you played Arcadia Conference, leaving 4 cards. Turn one, round two you played an inter-service rivalry card, down to 3 cards. However, since that card is an offensive draw card, you drew Olympic and Coronet, back up to 4.

The force raiding Saigon would have to increase enemy EC by 2 since it moved through Air ZOI.
@abesapien9930 Жыл бұрын
Thematically, why does activation need to not pass through a ZOI? Isn't it just a radio operator making a call to units? Or could communication wires be cut, etc.?
@CounterAttack Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure but I think it must represent more than just sending orders. Perhaps it represents actually supplying the units for the ordered offensive.

I don't know if you are still monitoring these, but are you sure the Australian units attrit? 6.2.4(2) says that full strength units flip if they are both unsupplied and not affected by Emergency Supply. There is no mention of HQ range except in (1) specific to one-step units. Since the Australians are in supply by sea I don't think they should attrit. Am I missing something?
@CounterAttack Жыл бұрын
Sorry this was posted a long time ago. You might be right.
@DavidFessel Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply. After rereading the rules, you are right, they are out of supply and therefore attritioned. @@CounterAttack
@johnsy43066 жыл бұрын
Oh...i think the Aussie units in Australia are not in range of an HQ that can activate them so must attrit
@deanolium6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Australia pretty much always attrits on that turn unless ABDA can both be out and not get covered by the Japanese/

Soerabaja is pronounced Surabaya (Soerabaja was the Dutch spelling, Surabaya is the modern Indonesian spelling which is closer to how it's pronounced.)

Ofcourse saying its pronounced Surabaya means nothing if you don't know how to pronounce Indonesian

Any reason you didn't use those powerful in range air units to react to the daring raid in Saigon? Another great vid as usual. I'm near done the campaign and the rules have fallen into place but the strategy is challenging.
@CounterAttack6 жыл бұрын
My thinking was I needed to avoid Japanese air losses since they get so few replacements. If the allies rolled a 9 I'd rather the loss go to a ship instead of an air unit.
