I love seeing the Iron warriors illustrated as they really are. BUT, that knife in Mandrak's chest... Ironically, the Guard commander would have been the one to survive if it were the old Iron warriors. For he bent, but didn't break. He bent on the means by which it was achieved, but never broke from his goal to save his men, and the people under his charge. Iron bends, but does not break.

Depends. The man submitted. He took the easy way, the safe way. That is not the way of Iron. The woman stood defiant in the face of defeat, never backed down, and stared at a sure death fearlessly. @Richard_Frost Жыл бұрын
@@andrewhinson4323 The man didn't take the easy path. Yes, he submitted, but you need to look at the reason why to say if he did so out of weakness or not. Far from the safe way, he took the path that would save his men, regardless of his belief, honor, and loyalty to the emperor. He was willing to sacrifice everything he believed in if it meant saving his men and as many of the citizens as he could. I would agree with you, if the choice he was given was just kneel and your life will be spared, but it wasn't. It was "kneel and your life, and the lives of your men will be spared". Everything the commander did, he did for the sake of the people under his charge. Throwing away everything that meant anything to him personally, in order to give the people a chance to survive. Iron bends. But it does not break. That is the way of iron. You bend to avoid breaking. The inability to bend when given fair compromise is not the old way of iron.
@andrewhinson4323 Жыл бұрын
@@Richard_Frost I think your line of reasoning is metaphysically acceptable. But I will still assert that you’re reading of his behavior from the perspective of both the imperial observer AND the Iron Warrior was that there is no shame in dying loyal. Quite the contrary in fact. Notice who lived. Was it the man who knelt to save people? Or the woman who stood defiant and loyal to her cause, even though it was at odds to the Iron Warriors? Its really very easy to save your own life while wrapping it up in the noble words of supposedly loftier goals. But when push comes to shove, do you die for your principles, or do you live in spite of them. We know from the simple fact that the woman was not only shown mercy (actually shown mercy! By Iron Warriors!!!) but then put in a position of command, that the Iron Warriors valued self-sacrifice for loyalty and principle as the true manifestation of Iron Within. The way of Iron. So you can say he was willing to sacrifice his honor, and all that for others, but it had the happy coincidental side effect of saving his own life and looking forward to leading people by his own words. “They will need someone to lead them.” One can just as easily imagine that in his mind swam visions of self-ascendancy under a new banner. You can imagine none of that for the woman.
@jankom.7783 Жыл бұрын
@@andrewhinson4323 Also, they both thought, that Iron Warriors are traitors and seek to hurt their people. Commander was willing to take command even under this presumtion. Meaning he would have to do it too. Guard woman was not willing to do it. That was proof for the Iron Warrior that she will be a good leader to his people. Will not bend under pressure. And he left her command with no conditions. Meaning that she will change her presumtions about him and likely will call him if serious threat will occur again. Iron Warriors live up to their name. They are cold, fearless, and yes while traitor technically, they bow to no gods, not tolerate weakness. "Weakness is a Choice" what he means is pretty straightforward. Submission is death, weakness, defeat. Iron doesn't bow, it bends, Iron doesn't weaken, its forged in strength within fire, Iron is Eternal. The commander sealed his fate the moment he choose to bend the knee to him. The Captian lives because she was prepared to fight even against impossible odds, thus she was spared.
@meirengrisailes8103 Жыл бұрын
Killing the commander just because he abided to the command of kneeling wasn't wise. He didn't know whether he was really weak or still a valuable asset because of his knowledge or skills (and in fact he was). One could also reason that his will to submit wasn't for fear of his life but out of apprehension for the people, so he surrendered his freedom for the good of his fellows, which isn't a sign of weakness. There was no need to kill him. At most, he could have been exiled. Social darwinism, or better social spencerism, which is basically what is carried on by the Iron Warriors under their ideology, isn't reasonable nor fair, because it leads to faults due to the lack of diversity and flexibility. What doesn't bend might break (you too said that "iron doesn't bow, it bends", which is a tautology, and is in contradiction with "the commander choose to bend"). And on the other hand, there was no guarantee that the guardswoman would have joined their ranks, she could have tried to resist with force leading to her death in a fight, or she could pretend to enter their ranks just to plot anything to ruin the new power she despise or simply flee at the first opportunity, which is a vulnerability.
@serronserron1320 Жыл бұрын
She was the one who broke. She didn't remain defiant because in the end she was serving the Iron Warriors.
@junhongli1167 Жыл бұрын
@@meirengrisailes8103 And in submitting, he's giving up his troops to something worse. Now imagine if this wasn't the IV legion and it was the III legion, he would've set them up for a fate way worse than death. He sold hard. Knowledge or skills can be taught and passed down ( humanity's cheat code), his death didn't matter at all. The Iron warriors made the right choice in aligning with their goals. Its pretty reasonable and efficient, there's no need for diversity in philosophy. Either your troops break and wave the white flag or they fight and die despite insurmountable odds which is what the IW wanted.

I really enjoyed this. The animation of the iron warriors I can get over. Not going to lie I would much rather prefer the animation style of plague song... that aside I thought it was written to perfection to the lore, ie the dark elder, not all imperials knowing about the traitor legions. I do have 2 criticisms. 1. The bolter sounds don't have enough umph or thundering sounds for me. 2. I wish they kept the original storyline. As this was meant to originally been about loyal iron warriors. But GW insisted they were turned to traitors. Other than that I loved it.

Theoretically, the Traitor Iron Warriors could still be secretly Loyalists - just massive hardass Loyalists, who can't stand weakness and therefore butcher anyone they deem weak, to ensure that only the strongest of the Imperials survive, breed the hardiest of the hardiest, get the best civilian laborers/administrators etc., the best soldiers, the best Astartes candidates etc. Ultimately to make the Imperium of Man strong enough to withstand everything the grimdark universe throws at it. At least in theory. Them presenting themselves as Traitors could just be one of their tests/justifications to weed out the chaff - essentially to see who is strong enough to not straight up give up, as soon as they're presented with their "salvation-at-the-last-minute" turning out to be anything but.
@AnubisX1 Жыл бұрын
@Typanoid true, but I've heard from various sources that one of the agreements GW wanted with the animator was that the Iron Warriors had to be fully traitor, so pretty much the whole story had to be re written so I don't see them being secret loyalists. Would be nice. Again, I don't know exactly how much of what my sources said is true. Other than the iron warriors, they were meant to be loyalists, and it set in the hours heresy. As the animator originally announced.

In any human character that would simply be bad writing, but the Eldar species is known for both their vast capacity for emotional extremes and their fickle, capricious nature. They can react to situations much more quickly than humans and have the knowledge and ability to comprehend those situations much more fully than humans. What we would call an overly theatrical, dramatic, or histrionic personality in a human is probably considered taciturn or stoic in an Eldar, especially a Dark Eldar.

A similar situation happened in Liberation Day when a band of Iron Warriors answered a distress beacon from a space hulk overrun by Orks (admittedly, they slaughtered or enslaved the humans after they were done with the Orks, but it's the principal of the matter!), and they hate Xenos so much that during the War of the Beast they were even willing to team up with the *Imperial Fists.*

i guess if any chaos marine legion were to be summoned, the iron warriors are probably the ones that i'd almost be glad showed up -Night lords would kill and/or torture everyone -black legion might ally with the guard for a time before killing them -Thousand sons would use their psyker powers to tear through the Drukhari forces -World eaters would run at everyone and butcher them -Death Guard being there would cause everyone to fire out of both ends -Emperor's children would not make the lives of the guardsmen any better -Word Bearer's would probably summon demons and have them possess the guardsmen -Alpha legion probably wouldn't even show up because alpharius is being alpharius while trying to protect Alpharius.

Iron Within! Iron Without! If there is one legion of my cousins that I...respect! Its the Iron Warriors, they alone remain pure and true to what they are. They never wore a mask like the Alpha Legion, they never sought glory like the Emperors Children, they were never blinded by the nonexistent concept of honor like the world eaters, they were never consumed by failure as the Black Legion, and most of all they never kneeled to false uncaring gods, like the Word Bearers! THEY ARE PURE!!! As the 8th Legion is! And it us who shall remake this galaxy as we did all those millennia ago...

The way the Iron Warriors advanced was executed perfectly. Kudos to the creators!

This is pretty close to perfect, only thing is like he mentioned, the animations are bit rigid at times and I’d also like to see a bit more of the scale of a planetary attack shown

Just noticed on the last shot of the guardsman at the end, she had removed the logo from her helmet.

They did a really good job with this animation I think, they use the old pattern of drop pods.

I kinda love how in his own twisted and dark way, the Iron Warrior did exactly what the astropath called him for. He took out the Dark Eldar, fortified the planet so invasions wouldnt happen again, and chose a new civilian leader. Yeah a bunch of guardsmen got killed, but considering this is the IRON WARRIORS were talking about, a decimation was gonna happen purely for them having to be there anyways. Remember, weakness is a choice to them, and the planet was weak.

You can see she ditched the emperor at the end when you look at her helmet it no longer has the logo of imperial legion on the front anymore.

this show was amazing, it just sets the stall our for how good a proper full scale 40k show could be, although im slightly terrified as to what the cost this relatively short show cost to make

The Alpha Legion is also pretty decent to regular people. I mean during the Great Crusade they used many humans as agents in their legion and showed them a great deal of respect much higher than other legions that saw they as mere cannon fodder.

Yeah, but remember that Alphas are just as likely to get rid of their assets, once they've served their purpose. And retirement is not a thing in 40K.
