You got to understand back then Black music was at it's best back then and you had to be super good back then to get on and stay on unlike today where anybody can get on and not be that talented. Black people making hits back then was the norm. I mean imagine almost every song on Black radio stations and on BET was a hit! They had so many hit records out back then that were probably way better than this one that drowned this song out. But yeah it's a hit song but back then you had to be super good to stand out because the competition was fierce!

People keep clowning on Countess like at one time she didn't sound WAY better than all of their faves at one point, especially if your fave is from the 2000+ period. Industry politics is why she didn't recieve the backing from her label.Which in turn made her flop. She was boxed into her acting career. Till this day, I still believe her biggest mistake was doing 227 and not concentrating on music. Countess's calling was music and she took the wrong turn. Thyroid's has all but stripped her vocals completely today and it's so sad. Imagine the one thing you always knew you could fall back on,not being there when you really needed it to be. It has to be devastating.

PREACH!
@tierneemalinadeveaux44213 жыл бұрын
Countess said that once she had her children she didn’t want to do music because it would take her away from home too much. And even with the thyroid issue, her singing voice was not affected nearly as much as her speaking voice. She said that in an interview also.
@slimtee23 жыл бұрын
She only did a few episodes on 227 and she was like ten years old so I don't understand how that could've affected her music career. And she was like 13 or 14 when she recorded her first album, so I'm not sure how her music career was actually ruined. She showed her singing ability and talent on Moesha and The Parkers. And she went on to record a couple of albums from what I understand. However, I could be wrong.
@jakeduffles15983 жыл бұрын
This made me fear this for myself
@reek.85053 жыл бұрын
@@slimtee2 She only recorded one album, her first one and this song was the lead single from it. But 227 most definitely was a mistake (for her music career) because nobody was taking her seriously as a singer. As said before, she really did get boxed into acting and doing comedy shows (227, Hanging w Mr. Cooper, Moesha, The Parkers, etc.) and she started becoming typecasted. This means that you become casted by TV shows and movies playing the same kinda character because that's what you're already known for. And this is both a good and bad thing because while Countess still had a great career and is making residual money off those shows to this day, it kinda stifled any other venture she would've wanted to do.

She was 14 tho it's awkward having her sing to somebody to wait for sex. And even tho jackson 5 sung inappropriate stuff and Britney spears it had a teeny bopper sound her voice was to grown for the teeny bopper stuff lol she had soul to early. So they could've put her out there and just lied about her age but I'm sure someone would've exposed her.I also noticed she has other songs that she made when she was younger than 14 that they put her grown picture on the cover of because her voice did change when she got older and you can tell the difference but she still sounded grown asf.

I miss music like this, that used to make you feel real good. There will never be a time period I enjoyed more, than the 90's.

She was 13, 14 years old here... if the industry took her more seriously, she would have thrived in the 90s and early 2000s
