Niantic has finally released the new Avatar Customization Update in Pokémon GO, and the community is absolutely unhappy about it. We also need to talk about my last video on Sustainability Week, and an upcoming event which has some players feeling mixed.

Somehow, at the same time, they also increased her cup size so that she now has big boobs that are unnaturally high up, too close to the shoulders. The end result is a character who looks like a guy who has dressed up like a woman for a costume party.

Niantic totally wiped out genders. No matter what I try I can’t find a body type nor adjustment that can make me look like the grown ass woman I am. For me all I see is a shapeless blob options- no waist, droopy drawers with apparently a full diaper. Every cute fitted outfit I bought now looks like a stretched worn shapeless bag. Yes I’m superficial- I don’t want to open my game and see my sad, pale, lumpy avatar

Totally agree! I'm all on board for making games more inclusive, but that doesn't equal taking away options. The original female avatar body was much closer to my actual form than the current one featuring giant man hands, no discernible waist, ape torso, flat butt/hips, massive calves and hunched shoulders. There's nothing inclusive about eliminating options for female players with classically feminine bodies! I'm convinced that the PoGo devs don't understand the concept of basic female anatomy, but the proportions aren't even correct for the male forms. Like you mentioned, many of us spent coins to curate "cute" outfits for our avatars, based on the dimensions of the original model. Those outfits now look like absolute rumpled trash on these new models. Ill-fitted, drooping crotches, "front butt", dull colors, flat textures, you name it. These changes were poorly thought out, poorly executed, and should never have passed QA (does Niantic even have QA?), much less made it into the actual game. It's embarrassing.

The avatar update has got to be the most embarrassing character creator in any game on the market. The cracks were showing when they first released Jessie and James and how out of band they seemed in their design, looking like the inflatable tubes at car dealerships. I know its a mobile game, but when you look at the character creators in other games such as Fallout/Starfield and Dragons Dogma 2, these abominations make Oblivion characters blush, and that game came out 18 years ago. Miis from NIntento Wii had more personality that whatever Niantic has created. This is legitimately damaging Pokemon's brand. According to my girlfriend, the only thing good about this update is the boob slider, except it's not even that good. Twinkification of the men's bodies and deyassification of the women's bodies and horrification of everyone's faces. And what is up with the skin tones?? They don't even match with the color picker either being sickly pale white or so dark it looks like blackface racist. The organization of the skin color picker is also so random and all over the place. This will drive players to quit. Me and my gf's enthusiasm to keep playing after this has tanked tremendously. When you said that now everyone has "the face of a baby", I was reminded of what people said when The Sims 3 was first released. Many people said that they don't like it because the new sims looked like "blobs". That's what the Pokemon Go avatars look like now: blobs. The bigger bodies don't look like adult bodies, they look more like adult-sized baby bodies. There's something creepy about that. Also, I hate that they changed the Power pose that I purchased with money. It was originally a "superhero" pose, with hands on the hips and the upper body slightly leaning back. Now they've changed it so that the upper body seems to be a bit more crouched and the knees have a bit of a bend to them, so that... um... it looks more like an old man who is trying to stand up straight but doesn't quite manage it. That's not what I paid for.

What I see as the main problem is that they chose to have only one "naked" avatar, not a male one and a female one. I believe they did that because it simplifies greatly the programming and memory load behind the management of all the clothing and accessories options: having two very different bodies would make it much more complicated to have everything fit. The BIG problem: in the end, a female trainer cannot look feminine the way they want to, a male trainer cannot look masculine the way they want to, everything is bland and close to nobody is happy. A big L for NIantic, this update is a real disaster.

1 with sliders is 1000 times more lines of code and complexity than 2 static ones. Just something as simple as a pikemon sitting on a shoulder takes way more programming to change for various numbers then just 2

@@JohnTruempy Those " sliders" are simply what is called in most 3d packages "Morph targets" it´s REALLY simple, create a mesh, save it´s format, deform it, save as a morph target, put those same morph targets in the clothes and everything and they will deform similarly. Daz studio even have a unified mesh for both male and females that work REALLY well, with a resolution a million times bigger than POGOs abomination...

The DEI advisors got control over this change to appease the gay community. They erased the female avatars, and now everyone is trans. Niantic has admitted to this change, and have taken pride in this removal of females. It's disgusting and offensive. Not only that, but a lot of the clothing that we've bought over the years have been put back in the 'to buy' category. They forgot that we've already bought those items. We've all stopped playing, unless they fix this, apologize for their horrilbe error, and go back to the way is was. (not holding my breath on this) We're not playing anymore.

The game could have focused on actual core mechanics that would give everyone a better gaming experience and environment but nope let’s make nightmares for all of us to stare at onscreen…. I love anime for a lot of reasons and one of them is the unique character design and art that sets anime apart. It’s ridiculous to me to move away from a character structure that literally sets anime apart as a unique form of art and design. I absolutely hate the new character designs and I can’t even open the game because I don’t want to see the freakish things that are now happening. Bring back classic anime characters. Theres literally games shows pokemon cards art and manga all showcasing a variety of anime character designs that would have made infinitely better sense than the horrendous alien life forms that now grace the screens.

You’d think they’d take the feedback from the beta testing and make some changes prior to the global release. They didn’t change anything and there were so many bugs. Great concept, lazy execution and definitely not worth the wait. At this point there is very little in the game which is exciting and incentivising me to play. Same spawns, boring egg pool and very little to work towards in terms of gameplay and challenges. All my open special research is waiting on time-gated tasks and the last page of the WoW to be released. My wallet is thanking me but my goodness the game is boring right now.

The more I look at it the more I find. The shoulders & stance are very broad & manly. I agree the lower crotch area is "off" & implies a man. I disagree with the hips though. There is literally no hips & the torso is so long now that the crop outfits look terrifying! That part I found super weird. ...a stupid little pleasure that I truly enjoyed! I've collected a bunch of pieces for my wardrobe, favorite outfits to match my Buddy etc... seriously since 2016 earned some really cool pieces from events, pvp poses and on and on. Every single outfit that I've once loved are entirely useless!!! The avatar update is so bad that it's almost unbelievable. It's a perfect example of good idea, terrible execution. Almost all of the skin tones look pale, the bodies never look right and missing out on some of the clothing or poses is really terrible. I can't seem to put on most hats I already have, which is probably some kind of bug. Wanting to update the trainer customization isn't a bad idea, but they really needed to do a lot more fine tuning before this was released. I still think if they just released more hair style options and left everything else alone, it would have probably been better. I'm excited about Cleffa Hatch Day since I've been trying to find a Shiny Cleffa for ages, but I can understand being upset over features that were free suddenly being locked behind a paywall.

Let's just address the elephant in the room, by eliminating the Male/Female Customization and going into a non-binary route, this is a slap in the face of over 90% of their players. This company has employed a consulting agency specialized in "inclusivity" agenda and this was the result of their plan. it is not a technical mistake, making male characters look feminine and females look bulky and muscular, and pushing this directly for little children without any parental consent, this isn't an innocent technical issue. Comparing it to the incomplete rout feature is not correct. if this is how Niantic is positioning itself to the future, then this future is doomed and evil and should not be supported. Children should not be brainwashed or adults. They are going after people in every direction, and recently their concentration seems to be digital gaming, I hope parents wake up and stand up for their children's safety as no game is ever worth my child's wellbeing.

Im from the destiny 2 community so with the frequency they make events in pokemon go, i dont mind events like sustainability week being more about features already in game. As for the avatars, its just like you said. It could have used a lot more time in the oven. A lot of the features feel rushed and the clothing just doesnt look like it was actually changed to fit these avatars. Either they need to roll it back or be quick to fix these new avatars or im just going to keep making fun of it.

I do want to point out that in a past video for Sinnoh Tour, you had said that you and others had agreed that being able to buy a ticket which can give increased shiny rates was okay. This 2x Hatch Stardust bonus is the same thing. Features/modifiers previously being free now being locked behind a pay wall, because what, they can? I refuse to buy this ticket and I hope others do as well to show Niantic that some things should stay free and others should be paid for.

Idk how game decisions are made at niantic labs but I have a theory. Ol’ John is sitting in his San Francisco office and the team is giving you a presentation on a revolutionary avatar project they’ve created. The presentation consists of a 2 slide PowerPoint, one with pictures of these ridiculous avatars and the second slide has a picture of a shiny Cleffa with dollar signs.John absolutely loves it and gives the green light to release the update live… Something weird is going on. There is no way any competent game dev would be proud of this. Oh btw here’s a hatch day please keep giving us money. This is "how to have a great discussion" - address comments on previous videos before starting new content - keep this idea in future cos I love it as for avatars - I personally haven't altered mine since completing the johto masterwork and adding the ho-oh wings well over 2 years ago, I don't care too much about avatars, they do very little for the actual gameplay of pokemon go cleffa day, it'll probably be a disappointment like the other ones, and the tasks will probably be too hard for those of us with mobility issues to get a fair shot at even if we play the whole 3 hours - particularly if they involve a number of egg hatches greater than one

avatar update is awful. i was expecting to finally be able to have my avatar look like me. instead it’s worse than ever. cleffa hatch day is disappointing especially since you already have to pay for incubators. just to clear out your egg storage for the event takes a lot of effort and money if you don’t have incubators saved up.

Avatar's - was lame, now even more lame and my character looks like a junkie. Congrats niantic, reaffirmed my view to never waste money on avatar bling. Sustainability week - looks pretty lame. Only interested in the buddy benefits if it means 1/2 walking distance before candy pickup. Rest is lame Cleffa - entirely lame. Couldn't care less, will not be engaging any more than my regular play style.

This new update seems like a downgrade rather than an update. The quality of the new avatars are botched and looks horrible. And cleffa hatch day is just a slap in the face to the community, with a lack luster Pokémon and a locked paid bonus. IMO nobody is hype for this event and just seems like a cash grab for Niantic. WERE NOT YOUR SHEEP

A said it before and I will say it again as long as people keep paying they gonna do what they want… for example for go fest they doing something call raid lover hatch lover which use to come with the thang event it must be working cause they keep on buying it
