Fun fact: American Independence is intertwined with Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. There were two Polish generals fighting in the war of independence. First - Kazimierz Pułaski, who saved George Washington's life, fought the british and died while protecting Savannah, GA. Second was Tadeusz Kościuszko, military engineer who fortified different cities like Philadelphia and worked on West Point, which is now prestige military academy. After fighting in the US he returned to Poland, causing insurrection against Prussia, Russia and Austria, who were at that point trying to take PLC land. Despite people's bravery insurrection failed, Kościuszko returned to USA. When he got paid for his role in independence war, he put all of this money towards freeing and educating slaves.
