I haven't made these in years. I used to make them quite frequently when my kids were growing up. Of course, that's when there was a good sale on some sort of steak or roast. I'm going to have to make some again sometime for my grandkids and great grandchildren. I think they'll love them. And l like my mashed potatoes with a few lumps in them also. Otherwise they feel like instant mashed potatoes, not my favorite thing, but they'll pass in a pinch. Peace 🕊️

I bake my potatoes for , mashed potatoes , home fries with onions and potato salad. Many restaurants in the old days did this to use up the leftover baked potatoes from yesterday's dinner service. No way to avoid baking more than was served, and no wAy to make 'instant' baked potatoes in a microwave. JUST NEVER WRAP THE BAKED POTATOES IN FOIL... and of course refrigerate within an hour or so of making them. I always bake a few extras when I want to make other potato dishes.

I made a whole 5 lb. bag of potatoes as mashed potatoes for a church function a few weeks back. Some of the old dames were a little skeptical because I had hand mashed them and they weren't super smooth. They mixed mine with the others that had been brought and took a hand mixer to all to homogenize.

I'm betting half the distaste for certain foods comes from bad cooking, not the food itself. Sometimes people have an aversion to certain ingredients like cilantro tasting soapy etc. But mostly it's just bad cooking and not using proper ingredients.

@@valvenator yeah, Philly cheese steak done right is one of my favorite things ever and same with country fried steak with gravy, but some of the white pepper gravy I've had at Dennys for example was soooo bland and watery you'd never understand the appeal of it if that was your only experience, and likewise with so many bad Philly cheesesteaks I've had at all kinds of restaurants because they don't understsnd the details and try to cheap out on the steak by loading the thing with peppers and mushrooms as filler

The breading on country fried steak is a game breaker for me. It’s delicious if well made, but just won’t go with how I eat. I’ve tried using crushed pork rinds for breading. It sort of works. I rarely eat potatoes now. The smoother mashed potatoes are, the less I enjoy them. I’d rather have a baked or boiled potato diced into small firm chunks and buttered and salted, far more than mashed potatoes.
