Black Diamond was their traditional encore song. Casual fans didn’t know it. Concert goers (that built Kiss) loved it. Thanks for the reaction; like to see musicians doing these videos.

You should also watch "Deuce"...performed this same night on The Midnight Special. I remember staying up to watch this. It was the year I turned 13yrs...1975. "She" is the other song they played that night. Another good song of theirs, people hardly ever know, is "Watching You." The one to react to is from their "KISS Alive" album. Their KISS Alive album came out the same year...1975. Most people didn't even hear them prior to then. But my older brother had the three albums they released before the Alive album.

Was a die hard Kiss fan from when they came out for the longest time. Had the honor of being in a band here in Buffalo NY that got a chance to open for Kiss in 2010. They & their crew were phenomenal. Had our own dressing room fed us crew took care of our gear gave us a good soundcheck hung out with Doc MaGhee & got a chance to talk to all of them before & after the show. Talked to Gene for a while. Great guys!!!

This was right as KISS were on the rise. Their record co. was nearly bankrupt and had their live album of that year not done as well as it had, that wouldve been finito. There cant be another KISS. Bands cant dress in symmetrical superhero costumes or face paint without being directly compared to them, for better or worse. Another really good one would be I stole your love or creatures of the night. The studio versions are great as is, but the live video from 84 is amped up even further!

The only band currently with this level of commitment is Ghost (check out the songs Square Hammer or Rats.) As for KISS there are many eras and genres they have tackled. I’d suggest the official video for Unholy for a make-up-less treat, or if you want something completely different listen to a song like Shandi or A World Without Heroes. Another classic era tune to check out would be I Want You.

Kisses real breakout was their first “live” (he’s OK OK, much of it wasn’t live, but nevertheless) album, KISS Alive 1, the cover shot for which was taken at the Michigan palace. The Michigan story is notable because it was in Michigan, Detroit, Cobo hall, specifically, that Kiss had their first sell out of a major arena. Prior to that they even were invited to the city of Cadillac Michigan, and were provided the key to the city as the high schools football team was highly motivated by listening to Kiss to turn a season around into a championship season. Kiss alive one was the first to go platinum and then after that there were a series of platinum albums, all the way through dynasty, which was notable for having a breakout hit, but mostly to people who didn’t like kiss as it was a rock-disco song that to this day, ironically, still rocks & is worth reacting to “I was made for loving you“. But I would recognize and react to the live version of Detroit rock city from East Rutherford in the year 2000 first. Keep up the great work!

"Black Diamond" was from the KISS debut album, and not a too bad tune, with a few stage antics, sung by Drummer Peter Criss, doing his best Keith Moon impersonation. IMO the best instrumentalist in the band was Guitarist Ace Frehley, the guy who wound up playing on his knees, but Gene and Paul were competent. Saw them on my 18th birthday on their Destroyer tour in 1976, a real good time, Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band were the openers, so even better. Saw them later, on the Dynasty tour, and there were a lot of 8 year olds with their parents running around, the magic was gone.

great song choice from the 70's to start your journey if you did like the song and looking for more to listen to I'm not going to tell what you should listen to next if you do choose to listen cause many other's may suggest a song that they may like and from what show all I will say is This band like many other's had there ups and downs like many other bands where some left and then returned just to leave again but 1 thing is for sure when you take 4 guys who know how to play and they are all on the same page they each can bring out great music with a great show but also when drugs or booze comes into the picture or other distractions then the whole band suffers and your shows won't be not so great but for a band to last from 1973 to 2023 has to say something about each band member and what they brought to the band to lay that foundation from the start when they formed the group. I hope you do like it and give other songs a listen if interested so you yourself can see and hear the difference of musical talents each member brings out into the song.

I worshipped at the Alter of Kiss for some decades starting in the 70's. I saw them 3 times, 2 in the 70's and one in the late 90's, so you could see the progression of tech for the stage shows. I doubt if anyone in the band is an elite musician, but of course the whole thing works together. In terms of guitar solos, they'd never compare to Jeff Beck or Jimmy Page.
@MrAndrum11
@MrAndrum11 Жыл бұрын
Yes and no….. Ace has an amazing ability to make his solos as a song within a song. But are they top notch players… probably not…. But music is as important for the eyes and ears…. And they understood it. Bands who are better on studio albums then performers are often not able to capture their studio albums. For KISS they capture and outperform their studio albums live…. Not many musicians do that. Metallica is also a good example of that

Huge Kiss fan back then! Kiss was sort of competing in the Aerosmith, Boston, Eagles, Bruce Springsteen genre. So this was relatively heavy back then. Notwithstanding Led Zep, Black Sabbath, or other bands that began to introduce true Heavy Metal. This was also a flat performance, IMO. Guitar itro a little painful.

@njldst2007
@njldst2007 Жыл бұрын
Not trying to be preachy/judgemental here, but that's a lot of varied ground you mentioned in those few bands alone. RUSH and Pink Floyd are both associated most with prog rock, Led Zeppelin and Rolling Stones are associated with Hard rock and KISS is more classic Rock but towards Rock n Roll. And even among these, RUSH are more the tech-prog type of band while Pink Floyd are more Psychedelic art-prog, Led Zeppelin are heavier hard rock bordering on early heavy metal while Rolling Stones are earlier hard rock with more pop leanings than anything remotely metal. KISS would actually be closest in terms of their vibe and style to Aerosmith and AC/DC than most other bands My point here is that to club it all under 'classic rock' is misleading to say the least and you'd benefit more if you found out which genres you lean more towards so that you can better find bands and songs that fit your taste 🙂

@@njldst2007 First of all thank you for your detailed well thought out comment - I do respect everyone's opinions. Classic Rock is basically the umbrella term used for many genres and also used when describing the radio stations which play all of those bands I mentioned - including Kiss. I - along with most people - really don't care which sub genre the groups I listen to fall under. I am well aware of all the terms you used and I bands from many different genres. Besides the ones I mentioned I do like early Supertramp, the first 3 or 4 Genesis albums AFTER Peter Gabriel left, The Scorpions, Eagles, Police, Dire Straits, U2 up to and including the Joshua Tree, Black Sabbath only with Ozzy, the first 3 or 4 Aerosmith albums, AC/DC up to Back in Black, the first Coldplay & Counting Crows albums, the early Metallica albums and Iron Maiden up to and including Powerslave. I love much of the psychedelic era and even some of the New Wave era of the 80's. You said you don't want to be preachy but you unintentionally came off as such when you said I'd benefit more if I found out which genres I lean towards. I am in my mid 50's and know EXACTLY what I like and I really don't care what genre it belongs to. But again I do appreciate your well thought out comment and hope that you have a great day and weekend.

@@reallymysterious4520 I made the unintentionally preachy comment based off the scattergun way you mentioned some varied bands in the comment section of a reaction video focusing on a band that apparently doesn't interest you beyond their biggest mainstream hit single, which funnily enough, doesn't even sound like a typical song of theirs 😬 This wrong assumption made me think you might have been a bit unaware of the differences and nuances in the genres of music the bands' usual music comes under, so I merely wished to help you narrow down any search you might have been on for music that better suited your tastes 🙂 Also, I don't really see the relevance of the age information since I know many people that age group and greater who know less about their musical tastes than people of age groups below my own 😅 That being said, I appreciate your reply as well and I hope I was able to get my message across without seeming confrontational ☺

@@reallymysterious4520 Wow, that escalated fast 😅 Thought we were having a mature, civilized conversation bruv, where's all this hostility coming from lol I had no issue with you naming your favorite groups, I focused on the group you mentioned you *didn't* like, based on which I was merely trying to help out by directing you to stuff you might prefer instead. Beyond that I didn't have any issue with anything you said at all up until your last reply, . In fact, I even said I might have made a wrong assumption and agreed that the comment was probably unintentionally preachy, which I think you became sensitive about, maybe because you thought I was talking about you maybe?? 🤷‍♂ And I'm curious, where exactly did I insult an 'entire age group of listeners' 😂 Maybe re-read the comments without immediately trying to take offence 👌Heck, you thought my use of the word 'scattergun' was meant as an offence, which is kind of hilarious in it's own way Also, and this one I do mean with a little offence, the person commenting on a reaction video of a band he apparently doesn't like shouldn't really be trying to call someone else out (incorrectly I might add) for being 'an internet troll' 🤭

Whoever the poster is that claimed that Kiss "Alive" is at or near Diamond sales status (10 million copies sold) is completely full of it. Kiss "Alive" is only certified Gold in the United States (500,00 copies sold). And to go further, Kiss only have 3 albums that have surpassed the 2 million level in sales in the U.S. They are: Smashes Thrashes & Hits, Alive 2 (not Alive), and Destroyer. And it took Destroyer 35 YEARS to go double platinum (2 million copies sold). No kiss album to date (1/25/23) has ever been certified for 3 million copies sold. NOT ONE. So many Kiss fans are the worst, I should know since I used to be a huge Kiss fan. I still respect Kiss, they're a great rock band, but their fans are some of the worst when it comes to LYING (or being clueless). Kiss was NEVER a huge selling group at retail as it pertained to album sales. NEVER. Gene & Paul (and original manager Bill Aucoin) routinely lied to the music press and inflated the numbers publicly to create the illusion that Kiss were as big as groups like the Eagles, The Beatles, The Stones etc. But Kiss were NEVER that band in reality. The did sell a lot of merchandise because of the image and makeup, which set them apart from most other bands, but as far as album sales.......NO. They're not even close. Kiss have sold a certified 21 million albums in the U.S. according to the R.I.A.A. (the organization that actually gives out the gold and platinum awards and does the sales audits). To put it in perspective Van Halen have solder over 56 MILLION albums (again R.I.A.A. numbers), and even Motley Crue have sold more than Kiss, the Crue are at 25 million albums sold in the U.S. Def Leppard as well with over 35 million albums sold in the U.S. The Beatles, Eagles & Zeppelin have all sold over 100 MILLION albums in the U.S. to further put this in perspective. Kiss is not even close to these groups, and they never will be. Some more perspective, Queen have sold 43 million albums in the U.S. Journey have sold 49 million albums in the U.S. Again, Kiss is at 21 million. And Kiss (as Kiss fans know full well) have a ton of albums between studio albums, live albums, and compilation albums, meaning no singular Kiss album has ever been a massive seller. NOT ONE. Kiss simply have never been a huge band as far as selling albums. They've always been more of concert attraction and group that sells a lot of merchandise due to an almost cult like rabid base of very committed fans. I posted this because I get tired of people either being clueless and doing no research and then posting things as if they're "facts", or outright LYING because they're a fanboy of a music group or some other sort of entity. The truth still matters folks, it should anyway.
