Explanation for the ending where Sweden throws away the photo of him and Aland: Sweden realises that he has to move on and couldn't stay in his shell any longer, so he seeks out someone new to accompany him. But on one side, despite him throwing the photo away, he still loves Aland, and trusted her to keep the photo of him so she can remember the good times back then. This shows that Sweden no longer sees his daughter, Aland, as a daughter, but as an equal, and wishes to longer seek her. In all, Sweden finally understands her and himself, he doesn't want to pry into her anymore, and due to his true love for her, wishes her to be truly happy, with him or not.

You dont need to feel sad, Åland hel a refendrum at one point and 80% of the people wanted to stay a part of Finland because Finland actually protected Åland

Åland issue, as the video demonstrated was the very first issue the League of Nations addressed. They decided that Åland should remain with Finland due to the continuous island chainlink Finland has to Åland, which means it is possible to sail to Åland while always having land in sight. The same is not possible from Sweden although Åland is technically closer to Sweden. The Swedes argued that it should be ruled by distance while the Finns argued that their archipelago was a more meaningful connection. Meanwhile, the big powers also wanted to reduce Swedes might, remembering the Swedish empire of the past. So they thought it was a nice way to cut down Swedens might a little bit at the same time, so they opted for the Archipelago argument. Meanwhile Åland also enjoys demilitarization, which means there are no military bases in Åland despite its tactically advantageous location. If Åland opted to cut out of Finland, this status between Finland and Russia would also come into jeopardy as Sweden would not have such restrictions. Meaning that Ålanders would likely be conscripted into the Swedish military together with a Swedish military / naval base being constructed in Åland. All in all, it's a matter of convenience and comfort all around that makes most people happy with the situation. Finland will always protect Åland as Åland is a major source of income for the Finnish state as it is one of the richest parts of Finland overall.

I can see both sides of this Åland is of course upset that Sweden wouldn't fight for "her" Meanwhile Sweden is attempting to keep what's left of its country, what you have to remember is that Finland was a large chunk of land that belonged to Sweden, then is barges Russia sword drawn and pretty much says "Finland and Åland or your life" translation, "either you give me what I want, or I take it All" Then there's the World Wars, ok yes, it would have been brave of Sweden to enter either war and try to get back what rightfully belongs to Sweden, but you have to remember how utterly DEVASTATING both of those wars were, truthfully Sweden was very smart not to get involved, the same with Switzerland Don't believe me, just take a look at the countries that did get involved, all of the European ones were DEVASTATED by the war, and after Germany gobbled up Denmark and Norway, I can understand Sweden's hesitation to get involved I don't know about the bit of Sweden sending Finland war aid and whether or not that was true, if it was, that was still a fine sow of character for Sweden, and it shows he was still willing to help at least in an indirect sense The thing that gets me about THIS portrayal of this bit of history, is that photo, the fact that all Sweden is trying to do is give Åland the photo I'm sorry, I just can't see Sweden as a coward or anything bad really, all he wants to do is give a photo to Åland, even if he can't have Åland back, he just wants her to have the photo. The guy was scared, but also you could see the conflict within him, he wanted to step in and try to take Åland back, but he also didn't want to cause more harm to his nation Hell, after Russia was transformed into the Soviet Union, Sweden could have attacked the newly formed Finland, who wouldn't have been able to put up much of a fight, and demand Åland back, instead he asks Finland nicely if he can have Åland back, taking the diplomatic option, and Finland is the jerk who tells him to get stuffed To me Finland is the bad guy here, and poor Sweden the victim, even at the end, when Åland has accepted Finland, Finland just sits there looking bored out of his skull, ignoring Åland, and even straight up leaving the room with a bottle of alcohol And don't even get me started on Denmark and Norway, ok yes I get it, they were occupied, so they should KNOW why Sweden wanted to stay out of the whole thing Anyway, that's my thoughts on this, in a nutshell, Åland and Sweden are both victims of a horrible turn of events, and everyone they know are jerks

And Finland really didn't get _that_ much sympathy after WWII, as they were counted as Axis cobelligerents. Finland had to pay war reparations to the USSR. Then again, Finland did also work in the Allies' interests during the Lapland War, kicking out the Germans in the north. It's complicated.

Well, this is part of the countryball's memes.. it's like a wrong english spelling from other contries.. this gets more popularized cuz of Poland. They always says "Poland can into space" for the funny symbolical mean behind it.. then people (who knows this Ball memes) started to use this "term".

SotraEngine4 one of the times sweden tried to invade norway (around the era of the american revolution) a farmer from a lil mountain village whos farm was being invaded tricked the army of 50-100 men to get lost in the mountains were they froze and starved to death

The Denmark-Norway union did exist for 400 years, and was more or less one country. That is not to mention the regions of Scania, Halland and Blekinge that are historical and geographical regions of Denmark since 500 AD or something. It got aggressively Swedenized after 1660 but is dialectically pretty influenced by Danish.
