As a Indigenous Canadian, I have some criticism for this video. The confederation of Canada happened in 1867 not 1890. Not sure where you got this information from but it's inaccurate history. Newfoundland also did not form in 1905, It was still a colony before the confederation of Canada until they decided to join Canada around the 1950s.

and the Viking settlement in Labrador was only an extension of their settlements on Baffin Island and Greenland, not its own thing, Tecumseh's Confederacy in the Indiana territory and the Cree confederacy in the Keewatin district where loyal to Britain but largely autonomous, as were the corpratocracies of the Hudson Bay and North West companies (which is the only reason the Metis even exist, Quebec's failed rebellion isn't mentioned, etc.

1905 Newfoundland was still a colony but by 1907 we were a dominion, the same as Canada, South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia. Also poor Greenland is treated like it was a blank slate. Forget the paleo-Inuit then Norse then Inuit. Just the most recent Danes are mentioned. Mind you, seeing how many videos these days seem to be by those who think us Canadians and Greenlanders want to be yanks, I guess we can forgive their lazy approach to history
@Mkconqurer26039 күн бұрын
as a canadien, some details are wrong, like how the united kingdom did not include Ireland until 1801, the act of confederation of Canada happens in 1867, Newfoundland and Labrador was its own dominion until 1949, Canada did not gain independence in 1965, it just changed its flag, and vinland was on the island of Newfoundland, not in labrador and quebec, and the vikings never went that inland into quebec, I'm not trying to be a asshole but this video has a lot of inaccuracies
@cmhealy146 күн бұрын
What do you mean by independence? The flag? 65. But bringing the constitution home wasn’t until 82

As a Norwegian Canadian, the Vikings only controlled Newfoundland and parts of Labrador, as well as some islands that are now part of Nunavut, because the Vikings tended to travel along coastlines, so they went from Norway to the British isles, then to Iceland, then to Greenland, then to the islands in Nunavut, and finally in Newfoundland and Labrador, which we called Vinland.

Oh boy!! As a native canadian and Quebecer, you didn't tell the half of Canada history. Didn't mention the treaty of Paris which is France abandoning the Nouvelle-France to Brits that became Québec in 1763 and that treaty was also about keeping the Québec as it is and not trying to convert it like the rest of Canada. Also missed the battle of the plains of Abraham in 1759. The rebellion of Patriots in 1837 and 1838 and the rebellion of Patriots also meant France abandoning Québec for a second time. France could've sent help and have back Québec instead of focusing on Africa which was a big fail by the way. And this is just the Québec part so imagine how much parts was missed for the rest of Canada.
@linefrenette91162 күн бұрын
In fact, France had not been able to send aid since Commander Wolf had bombarded the ports of France and the city of Quebec existed well before 1763 since it was the capital of New France.

You missed the 1500s whaling and cod fishing around Newfoundland all the way to Cape Cod. Portuguese, Spaniards, Basques, French and British fishers, coming every years to fish, whale and trade with the locals. There's a French settlement in today's Quebec City, a bit farther West than the 1608 one, named Charlesbourg-royal in 1541-1542; also a Portuguese one, probably in Cape Bretton, NS, which could have lasted from the 1920s to the 1970s; and obviously, the St John's location in Newfoundland which have been used for the entire century, if not "earlier", as in before 1492 "earlier".

This is wrong because when it was the year 1710 England (WHICH WAS SUPPOSED TO BE UNITED FOR BRITAIN AT 1707) gone on his boat and went back to England or what ever. England, Scotland united at 1707 ... Even at 1735 when it came back to Canada It seriously still was England..
Wasn't Vinland in Newfoundland? Wasn't the Confederation of Canada in 1867? No offense, but there's a lot of inaccuracies in this video.

That vikings in 1.55 is so wrong it ruins the whole video. WTF? Danes landed at some point, had worse luck then Greenland. One feud happened which made native angry at danes. All in Newfounland (Terre-Neuve) Not in Labrador, not In Quebec, NOWHERE near Gaspé! History is true, there were danes, juste not the way this video shows it.
