Hi John, another amazing update. Before I forget I agree with your idea to paint the bridge pillar black to complete the fascia. The black fascia creates a wonderful frame and gives the impression the scenes continue beyond the layout. I love the way you blend different scenes together to model a whole region that would otherwise be impossible to do. As I've said before it is pure theatre drawing the viewer into a convincing miniature world! Congratulations! Karl

I love your painting on the back scene. I hope I can do something half as good as that. The Viaduct is really taking shape and looks great with the river. The Daleks are invading. It is looking very good. I will be doing 00. For my layout. I have way too much in 00 to change. Keep up the good work.

It's very clever and inspiring how you are creating the separate scenic sections in what as you say is a very small space.

Hi, thank you, the units need to come out in the event the housing association need access, eg the windows were replaced not that long ago. The whole layout is approx 10' x 10' not a bad size for N gauge, but wanted to create separate zones or scenes, if you like, which are fairly close but hopefully give the impression being several miles apart, this means that space for each zone could be quite small or narrow in places, hoping that explains it.

Hi John - great progress on the scenery. Looking good 👍. I'd paint the thin strip of wall into black - your right it does look odd ! Don't blame you for not filming cutting out the baseboard for the river. I know how stressful that would have been if my own experience is anything to go by. Cheers Euan

John, well, you have done a lot. Underneath the iron bridge is a true pigeon palace, well seen. You have made the viaduct sit in the landscape and transition the zones well. I like the river. The bridge parapet in the fascia needs to be black apart from the very top bit with a slope from high to low in a triangl remaining brick left down to right as you shewed. Never discount your skill with backscene perspective as I for one appreciate it and expect that you will nail the shallow backdrop in the new scene. I think that this will be one of the more accomplished scenes in a panoply of many on your layout. A pleasure to witness. Regards, Stephen.

Thankyou Stephen, glad you like it. I cant see myself making pigeons 1.5-2mm tall, let alone fit them, lol. The bridge brutress has been blackened although I opted to paint all bar the inside. The scene is coming along well now, foliage is 90% complete, just adding track details before ballast. Thank you

The views of the trains travelling under the viaduct looked spectacular without any scenic work beyond the structures. Bodes well for what it will look like once you have worked your magic. Amazing what you can get done on a layout without the interruption of one's employment getting in the way (says the contented retired man). I agree with you that the orphan side of the tunnel portal needs to be painted black, but you might want to leave deciding how far up you paint until you start putting scenic material on. I have a feeling that if you paint all the way up you will get a reverse effect at the top of a strange black section. You may be able to disguise the border between black and stone or parapet with scenic material. Stephen

Thank you Stephen, Ive started to add foliage and it does make a difference. I have already painted that post inc the top. Ill look at it again when the foliage is in place. It won't be difficult to repaint the coping stone if needed

Hiya John fantastic progress again and it's really coming clear what you've got in mind I'll be interested in seeing how you achieve the weir. As for the pier I would paint it black as is your thought and I would take a lind from the wall on the left hand side to the top of the wall on the right, so the line would be at a slight angle, if it doesn't look good then you could easily square it up. Well done mate, take care Eddy xx

Fantastic job on the bridge weathering! Have you ever seen the technique where you wet the area and sprinkle A LITTLE salt and or baking soda, then paint over it and it looks like how advanced rust bubbles up. If you want to see it done on the Jason Jensen Trains channel he does it while building a rolling bridge. Look so realistic!

Hi, thank you. Yes I am aware of this technique and it works well. My layout being N gauge, sometimes such techniques can look slightly out of proportion, hence paint on this occasion. Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment.

Another excellent video John. I would be inclined to paint it black. As for the clip, why not a small mound, hollow underneath to fit the clip, removable, and you could put a stone circle on it, as nine ladies stone circle, that would represent the Peak District. I just think countryside rather than a building and the fact the railway has had to go around the mound as its historical, just a thought, cheers Andy 😊
@piccadillymodelrailways
@piccadillymodelrailways 8 ай бұрын
Thx Andy I like like of mound, perhaps covered in trees though. Stone circle??? lol what you like? Stone Henge maybe lol. Seriously though mound does fit better, especially as a building would be buried in a ‘triangle’ of track.

Hi John! Another excellent update! I very much enjoy watching your progress! You work so quickly that you've probably already painted it now, but I'd definitely paint the bridge pillar black to keep the facia colour consistent! I've got one of those Dremel router attachments that came with the kit I bought, and have been looking for a use for it! Bet it would go through my foam base a lot easier! :) All the best, Ian.

Dear John, very interesting how you did the river Goyt. Saw those Dremel attachments, kinda interesting contraption. As you said, with routing it’s all about making several cuts instead of getting the cut done in one go. Beautiful how you increased the illusion of perspective on such a small footprint and obviously without compromising the looks towards the scenes beyond the particular vignette you’re currently working on. Don’t necessarily have a solution for the one bridge abutment which is still bricked up. Humbly think this is a question of looking through the eyelashes several times and then deciding what suits you best. Kinda awesome how you’ve made all the land forms removable. Cheerio
@piccadillymodelrailways
@piccadillymodelrailways 9 ай бұрын
Thanks Vincent, it certainly was an interesting task cutting out the river bed, by removing the angle brackets I could get the jigsaw in, but had to route out the atea above those beams. My big route wouldnt fit safely in the area because of the tracks, so the small dremel attachment proved perfect and did a good job with very little mess, much less than the jigsaw. Not sure what you are referring to with the bricked up abutment, guessing you mean the sections in the viaduct, but two of those areas are removable in order to flock them, then fixed in place.
