We had a dairy and would mix bad milk and spilled or waste feed together and our pigs loved it. We also gave them scraps from the house and pork chop bones were one of their favorite items to eat, go figure 😅

I often put my fertilizer on at half rate and go over it twice. It’s called a split application. It makes more even coverage and lets you know your settings are correct before you put 3x (or more) fertilizer on than you intend. It works well on smaller acreages but wouldn’t be practical on larger farms. Love to see your progress. Keep up the good work and we enjoy your videos.

I don't mean to be critical but driving a farm tractor, we would spend 50% of the time looking to the rear of the tractor at the implement to make sure everything was working properly. That's the difference between driving a tractor and a car.

Evan if you can get corn or wheat cheap in bulk, try this with your pigs. Get a clean metal or plastic barrel and fill it about half way with rain water and then add a corn or wheat or mixed corn wheat blend to the water and let it soak so that the water stays about an inch or two above the grain. It will begin to ferment and smell a bit and then feed it to your pigs. They will love it. My grandfather used to feed that to his pigs and it has almost a beer smell to it. He also bought a huge cache of old civil defense crackers sealed in tins and fed that to his pigs as well. They loved it. Any food stuff canned or fresh you can get from stores or supermarkets makes good added food for your pigs. Ask your family and friends to save items they will throw out and have them ask their local grocer if they have expired items they can no longer sell. Pigs get a wealth of benefits from things that can still be eaten by them.

Smart idea getting the internal wheel. Had to order that as an extra on mine. They say you can change the flow on those, left, right,or back but never had much luck with that. Pray for rain, that urea will burn it up quick. Normally add to mine in early April for first cutting.

I put 7 Amur in my pond in fall 1989, they lived until late winter 2016. They all measured 34" long, did not measure girth, but they were close to 6" from eye to eye. They ate full grown cattails with no problem & consumed all but the brown at top of plant. Restocked Spring 2016, these are fully grown and 1/3 smaller & do not eat cattails, unless i cut & throw in pond. They do not have the appetite of the previous fish. Pond is only 1/4 acre @ 8' depth . I spray as much grass clipping into the water, every time i mow. It takes them a day or two to consume. Obviously genetics are involved, so you may need to add "a lot more Amur" to eradicate your substantial problem. Hope this helps & congrats to getting out of the rat race and doing your own thing. btw restocked as all originals died .

Evan, pure Nitrogen is not the Solution for your Hayfields. Look for the Potassium and Phophorus content in the soil. Check it in the lab, so you can apply the right fertilizer in the right amount.

A farmer's work is never done, no matter what type of farm he/she has. Crazy how the weather changes from year to year. You look busy and happy, which I am very thankful for and I hope any coming interruptions are minimal. Good for you. Although I imagine that you did well at spreading, I wonder if when you are desiring to find out how much fertilizer is being put out, how evenly and how far, if you could try placing cut off containers (like cut off milk bottles/not real deep) spaced evenly out in a straight line and then drive perpendicular between them at the speed you want to go. Then you could check the containers to see how far the fertilizer is spread, the direction and how even it is. Wind is a factor as well. I have no experience, so have no right to suggest this, but I have seen it done by larger farms. My husband even has problems putting fertilizer on the lawn. There is a foot wide by 6 inch deep area that he ended up burning off when he didn't check the spreader and he gets reminded of it whenever he walks out the door because it is right there. I'm really not complaining, because I know I would do a much poorer job. It is just the way life is.

The pressure washer comes in handy. Is it gas or battery, I couldnt see? I wonder if it would kill 2 birds with one stone if you cleaned the fertilizer container in a grass area. That way, that area would get water and fertilizer and improve the soil and grass in that area? The stone driveway doesn't need any encouragement to grow things, LOL Did I miss the video when you did soil testing to know what the fields needed? I hear duckweed is a good nutrient/ fertilizer? You could clean some of the pond and try putting the duckweed out somewhere on your property and see what happens?
