I have used a 4 way slip on wedge on my two TSC 22 ton, and my Family Farm and Home 27 ton splitters. I agree with the problem you have. I had it too. I ended up putting a 2''x8'' block of wood at the end of the stroke so the wedge goes all the way thru the piece to be split, which generally makes them fall apart. I like them because it saves time and gas. However the new 27 ton is a faster cycle anyways, and me, getting older, working alone, may not need the extra speed savings. Undecided as to keeping it or not since trading splitters. You definitely need the added shelf when using a 4 way.

Thanks for the review, I was debating on picking this up. It seems like it would work well for when I split cherry and ash but it seems like it would be very specific to pieces that are 12-14 inches diameter at most and that may be high. It looks like it actually causes more work for you at some point.

Agree. With perfect wood it’s not terrible, but my splits vary in size and I end up taking it on and off.

It looks like it will fit on the performance built, crimson and a few other brands by ytl. That unique looking wedge makes it hard to find another four-way slide on adapter. It is a shame it doesn't work a little better.

My splitter pushes into the wedge (opposite yours). After your review, I'm thinking a custom 4-way with longer fins would be better

Maple is a tough customer. I'm thinkin about one of these splitters and was wondering about a 4 way wedge. I the vertical part stuck out a little bit longer from the stripper then the side wing cutters could be made more substantial and give it a chance to do a better job. Youd lose and inch or so in log length capacity, but I think it'd be a good tradeoff.

Arboractive has a video on how to reduce the Stroke by using a piece of cord or wire ran across the forks into the detent handle. That would leave room for a wider horizontal splitting wedge. County Line also makes 30 and 40 ton 4-way wedges that are wider on the horizontal.

Thanks for the review. Have you had any better luck with different types of wood? I bought one but haven't tried it yet. Seems like it might be a waste of time for me too. I burn maple, hickory, ash and oak for the most part.

I tried oak and I was still disappointed with it. If every chunk of wood were the exact same size this might work, but I think it’s more trouble than it’s worth. I’m curious your thought after using it.
