Lay is not trying to say he’s a God/ angel. My simple interpretation is that he wants to be viewed as a pioneer in mix mandarin pop and he’s leading the way amid chaos and criticisms. The axe helps him break through different cultures and the people connecting together symbolizes that Lay can’t do it alone. That’s why Lay established his trainee company to grow talents in China who can help continue his vision of m-pop in the years and years to come. There is a whole ancient story behind the concept of the song and MV which my words are not eloquent enough to explain. U can google when got time as many people have already explained. Thanks for the reaction.

Wow, thank you for the reaction! Regarding "Daqi Daqi Tei", you can consider it as the sound of Pangu spliting rock with his giant axe. I'd recommend more masterpices from Lay: LIT, Flying Apsaras (only a visualizer and dance practice), Veil, STEP, Honey

There is usually a Chinese story behind Lay's recent MVs, and (Kai Tian) 开天, is the story of Pangu. Pangu was a giant who slept for 18,000 years in the dark chaotic universe, before heaven and earth had been separated. One day, Pangu woke up suddenly. When he saw the darkness around him, he swung his axe (kai tian) and with a loud noise it split the darkness. Which becomes the sky and the earth. After the separation of heaven and earth, Pangu thought it might still reverse or combine again, so he kept them separated himself. As the sky rose ten feet a day, Pangu grew taller and taller. For many years, heaven and earth gradually took shape, and Pangu was so tired that he fell. His breath became the wind, his voice became the thunder; his eyes became the moon and sun. His arms and legs became N,E,S,W poles of the earth; his skin became the earth, his blood became rivers and his sweat into the rain.

Kai Tian - Opening the Heaven, references Pangu, the mythical figure described as having the head of a dragon and the body of a snake. The song was released on January 1, a date chosen to coincide with the transition from the Year of the Dragon to the Year of the Snake, reflecting the imagery of Pangu. In Chinese mythology, Pangu used a giant axe to strike the egg-like chaos, and separated heaven from earth. Lay, like Pangu who created heaven and earth, spares no effort in pioneering a new music genre, M-pop, which showcases and promotes Chinese culture. In the MV, the traditional Chinese instrument that produces a loud and bright sound is called Suona, and it’s a popular instrument for weddings, funerals, and various traditional Chinese ceremonies. The waist drum that Lay played is a traditional folk percussion instrument which is popular in northern China and commonly used in Chinese performances and festivals.

Yea Lay use the term M-Pop for Mandarin-Pop. My guess is probably because C-Pop was referred to CantoPop (cantonese pop) in the 90s when HK songs were huge back then in SEA. Not sure the kind of drums used but the sound of the "suona" (traditional chinese horn) in the background is very obvious with its very unique loud sound.
