Coupeville Tote by Oro Rosa Patterns - Official Tutorial

I am thrilled to be bringing you another tutorial for Oro Rosa Patterns, the Coupeville Tote!
This bag is a great medium sized tote, measuring 12.5" W, 9" H, and 4.5" D. It features both handles and a fully adjustable and removable crossbody strap, an exterior slip pocket, two interior slip pockets, interior zipper pocket, and large main compartment with recessed zipper closure. The most striking feature of the Coupeville Tote is the unique handle design, and of course the (optional) quilting!
This is an intermediate pattern but I take you through every step in this video so you can confidently create your own beautiful bag. It is assumed in the tutorial that your pattern pieces are cut and interfaced with markings from the pattern applied and as such these are not demonstrated. The Coupeville is designed for sturdier materials such as vinyl and cork, and the interior is suited to woven fabrics appropriately interfaced. I am using Mora vinyl from Emmaline bags for my exterior, cotton canvas from Geek Garden for my linings, and sewing on a domestic Juki HZL-DX7.
This pattern utilizes rivets and zippers. The pattern has many bulk reduction techniques written in to reduce issues when sewing on a domestic machine; areas that are somewhat challenging due to the number of layers will be identified in the video with suggestions to help you successfully navigate them. Great tutorial. I don’t have a fancy rivet press, would Chicago screws work as well? Just your opinion. Love the way you explain details

Thank you 😊 They would work, as long as the posts are long enough, although in some parts the back would be exposed from inside the bag so you would need to consider the aesthetics of that and if the screw-in surface is likely to rub on anything, such as the zipper panel where the handles are.

7:08 why do you only add the twill on one side instead of both? Just curious

It’s to stop vertical stretch of the strap when the bag is being carried, so since the strap is all folded over and sewn together it only needs to be in a small section, having it on both sides would essentially do the same job twice, plus add extra bulk.
