The two of you didn't just build a house; you built a relationship and a marriage. Unfortunately, in today's world, most couples just go through life by accident and near the end wonder what happened. You achieved something few couples today ever will; you have made life happen! That takes lots of work and sacrifice. Kudos.

I was born in Idaho and grew up in rural Oregon, and I've know people who've made choices similar to the ones you've made and been happy with those choices. I understand the choices you've made and have a lot of respect for you for making them. I've made different ones - I live in a condo in downtown Chicago - and I'm happy with my choices even though I have that mortgage you've worked so hard to avoid (but I do live car-free). But that's the great thing about life and America, we can all make our own choices as long as we're willing to live with the consequences. I'm willing to live with mine, and you're willing to live with yours, so we can both be happy living very different lives. So keep going, keep living the life you want, and I'll keep watching. All the best, Eric

The videos are becoming a bit preachy. I enjoy watching them build stuff and create their dreams. Even thou it's not the dream life for me and my family. Does not mean I enjoy the repetitive "nomie" stabs. I'm not american and from a communal focused country that's not debt driven and it's just not resonating with my experience.

I’ve been following you guys (on and off) for five years. It is sooo refreshing to hear your humbling and honest feelings about hard work and sacrifice to unshackle your lives from the debt slavery of our society. Yes, the work is hard, but you now know a freedom that most people will never know. Congratulations

I’ve enjoyed most of the videos until the recent group of test ones. They were quite a let down. I’m still one of those concerned that there might have been something happen that caused a collapse of your family relationship since we haven’t seen you and Alyssa together in a video since around Christmas. Your followers have been quite concerned with all kinds of speculations. Also been one of those wondering why there have been no videos of any work on the house itself. That exterior OSB on the SIPs won’t last forever with no protection from the elements. That heavy equipment you have also needs protection. So what will it be? A big garage/shop or the badly needed work on the house? We saw you work outside in the snow the last few years so we know you weren’t bothered by that. Why the delay? I’m one of your fans who hopes you get back to the meat and potatoes of why I have enjoyed your well produced videos since the beginning. Bring them back!! Dump the repackaged old ones with a new voice over and dry uninteresting test comparisons we couldn’t care less about. We are all locked in and your quality project videos would be more welcome than ever.

Oehh, why so angry? My heart is beating so fast now. I am always watching your videos on double speed, then for some reason, i can see your emotions clearer. i've been your fan since you had your house foundation. It seems, that i have missed some comment section or what.. (99,9% of times i dont read comment section anyway). Trolls are going to be trolls, just ignore really. Not really sure, what is going on. Be positive, keep up the good work. Share the small little projects you have. My parents built a house and it was pain in the ass, but now it feels awesome, that they have a place to live. We, as kids, all moved away. Spread the positivity!

Hello Jesse My wife and I are doing a very similar thing. I would have to say you and your wife have been an inspiration in our journey. We are living in 80 square feet with our dog. I built a very small apartment in the front of our 8X20 cargo trailer. 8X10 in the front and the back 8X10 is the garage. We are building a 480 square foot home. We are also living on our property at the same time we are building the house. Keep going and we will also. You're right there is no pantic here also just security and knowing you can do it yourself. Thank you for all the great videos.

To mutch of a lecture. You need to tone it down a tad. I built a home for my family in 100 days from hole in the ground to moving in. Yes I used a plumber, electrician and a drywaller for the big projects, but myself and 3 helpers did it. Total cost of contractors was less than $50,000 witch I mortgaged over 5 years. Yes it was in a remote piece of land in Norther Alberta ware we really do get cold winters. I congradulate you on your sucess but please, work content not lectures. PS, I have been on this journey with you from day 1.

wellahlookyhere I think he’s just reflecting and seeing how much he’s learned and accomplished up to this point. But he does sound a little self centered in this video.. and the house would be the first thing I would finish if I were them.. before starting to grow foods and living the, “lifestyle” they want. But even through his tone and passive aggressiveness, he did make some solid points as far as sacrifice and people being to reliant on others.

I’ve been watching since pretty close to the beginning, as I was doing a similar thing; you have inspired & encouraged me all along the way. tragically, my husband died at age 53 just as we were getting started on our homestead. I have been living in a small RV since December of 2015. my husband died in January of 2017. before that point, we put in a road, drilled a well, had electricity installed & a shed built, plus closed in a garage w a “craftroom” space & a bathroom. everything is paid for up to this point & I continue to live fairly frugally. I still reside in the rv & “hang out” in the garage. this summer, I will begin building a very small house. I am not able to do it all myself, at my age & ability, but I am intimately & hands-on involved in every single facet of the project. thank you for sharing your story & for opening so many doors of imagination & opportunity for so many. bless you. gailanne in eastern WA

Ultimately you are not being completely honest to yourself. If you have not already done so you need to read Robert M Pirsig’s book ‘Zen and the art of motorcycle maintenance’. You actually represent the central message of this book which is that in getting to where you have the two of you have also enjoyed the journey. That shared experience has enriched your lives in ways that money could not. You have a deeper regard for one another, a dream home and that sense of achievement that no one can ever take from you. Detractors will never begin to understand so do not waste your breath or ire on them.
