We married 32 years ago and the older we get the less important the little niggles or annoyances are. We've had a couple of big fights over the years, but they never lasted more than a day or so because the truth is that it hurts and you don't want that. Having a quick bicker keeps the air clear. The older we get the more we appreciate kindness is what matters, so we try to be kind to each other. Who ever said years ago "Don't sweat the small stuff" was right.

My belief is that you are supposed to go through a fight before getting married. You have to know what you're getting in to and the other way around, the way that person reacts and copes with certain things. Are they able to communicate it well and are their addictions (as we all have them) something they run to after something extremely stressful. I hope someone else shares this belief.

We have been married 9yrs, so I don’t have a heap of wisdom, not yet anyway! The way I process a disagreement is by asking myself ‘is this something I can’t forgive?’ If the answer is no (which it always is) then we talk through it and move on. Unless it’s something that I truly can’t move forward from then what’s the point in remaining angry? We are both very stubborn people, marriage at times can be hard, you put two unique individuals together and basically say “now live together and make it work forever”. There’s going to be bumps, and all kinds of disagreements, but you have to view the bigger picture! Move on, and then keep going!
