Great video! While we may not feel the full stress of having all that responsibility, we certainly sense the frustration. We are frustrated & overwhelmed we can't do our "equal part". Takes a very unique individual to take on that role. For those that do, you are grately appreciated.

it is really nice to see that you two have such a good relationship that you can have an open conversation like this. I think this is incredibly important when there is a disability like this as is showing appreciation and empathy. You two are great role models!

I'm 47 and have never been able to drive due to my low vision, I'm also hearing impaired. I was a rubella child. My biggest issue is that not being able to just jump in the car and go for a drive. I'm married with twin daughters who are about to turn 18, which is the driving age in my state of Victoria in Australia, they have promised they will drive me around when my wife is at work.

Hi Sam, about the driving thing. Its really hard not can drive. My husband and i are sighted but have other problems why we cant drive. But here in the netherlands we have a arrangement where i ASK an indication. And we have now a taxi pass especially for disabled people who cant travell alone and in euro’s it is really cheap. I dont know how its in youre valuta. But for example from my Home to the stopping center day 5 minutes drive it cost E1.60. So thats really cheap and they bring you from door to door. Love sabrina

Dear Sam Seavey, you 're great! thank you so much for your "Blind Spot"!!! As a mom of a Stargardt disease guy, I think your work help very much our global community of low vision people. I post your link in our Stargardt International Community at Rare Connect www.rareconnect.org/en/community/stargardt-disease/forum/topic/the-blind-spot-channel In the name of our kids, thank you again! Great job again you guys. You nailed it again. It's a shame that were never able to experience the freedom of driving. I was lucky to be able to be a bi-optic driver for 16 years. It sure made things easier when the kids were little. Rachel, I know Sam tells you, but we do appreciate what you and people like my wife do do for us. It is not easy. Ladies like you are truly a blessing.

Thanks Mike Vosburgh , Sam is really good about showing his appreciation. But honestly, I'm the one that comes out on top in this relationship. He's a great catch and any of the stuff I have to do because of his vision doesn't compare to what I get from having him as my partner.

I am thankful for my husband. He isn't happy, that now, all the driving is on him, but he does it.

I so understand the whole driving problem Both me and my other half are legally blind neither one of us drive. We have 3 kids ages from 4 to 13 so yes they do different activities at different times some at the same time Remanet with a deep freezer where we can go shopping for some foods once a month. He grabs random little things we need on his way home from work which sometimes he gets a ride other times it's walking or the city bus. I'm just Glad my Older kids friends parents understand and are willing to give my kids rights. That both the older kids are perfectly capable and know exactly how to take the city bus by themselves to get to where they need to go it's funny how our kids adapt how we adapt and how other people not in our situation couldn't figure out how to do things. We have friends the have kids older than our kids and they get lost on the bus lol

Wow, I can relate to what is talked about in this video and the others that talk about life with a blind guy. I am legally blind, do my wife does all the driving, but I do all the cleaning. I get annoyed by clutter like Sam. When a movie has captions both her and our son read therm aloud without me asking.

When my friends just automatically read the text on movies and such it means so much to me. It is so nice not having to constantly remind someone. When I have to keep asking I feel like such a pain. Bless you all that just do❤️

Rachel and Sam, I noticed your nice lawn. My question is who cuts the grass in your yard? I cut the grass, but my wife says I mess up and miss about 20% of the lines, so my wife ends up doing a final trim on our lawn. Anyway, great video and wish you both a weekend.
@theblindlife9 жыл бұрын
Jaime Guerra Hi Jaime! Well, historically I've always cut the lawn, but starting last year Rachel started to notice strips of grass that I was missing. She would usually just fix it herself, or if she noticed while I was mowing she would point them out to me. But I also have a 17 year old son who is with us every other week in the summer and he is in charge of mowing. And, this summer my father in law is staying with us and he loves to do yard work, so I haven't had to mow at all this year. Hopefully by the time my son is out of the house, my daughter will be old enough to do it .

Great video as always. How do your kids feel about having a near blind father. Do they ever have to do things different to help you out or not?
@theblindlife9 жыл бұрын
steven macdonald They don't mind much because it's all they've ever known. They help out all the time! The next set of videos will be about the kids!

Hi Sam and Rachel, you are a lot like my boyfried and I. Robert is visually impaired. He can see just enough to where he does not need the cane or seeing eye dog but cannot drive anymore. When I met him, he could drive but the cornea in his right eye deteriorated to where he needed it replaced. 3 cornea surgeries later, it's still a rollercoaster. He had a cornea replacement in his left eye 20 or so years ago and so far is fine. Rachel, I don't feel so alone in sometimes not wanting to be the sole driver sometimes but Robert is great at navigating me if I am driving somewhere I have never been. Robert got his Bachelor's in History from Chico State. He had to take Greyhound buses 2 to 3 times a week to and from Chico as we live in Redding California and I couldn't drive him the hour and a half as I have a full time job. Thank you for your videos, it's nice to hear the same kind of issues that Robert and I go through. Robert started his own vlog called California Unearthed as we do vlogs about history around our area and do some on our trips so if you have time, check it out. Thanks again!
