COURSE MANAGEMENT - HARLEYFORD GOLF CLUB | Part 2
In this video we will be focusing on golf course management where PGA professionals can share with you their ideas on how best to get around a golf course and prepare for a golf tournament.
This week we are at Harleyford Golf Club ahead of Wilbur's first EuroPro Tour event. I have driven Wilbur up for a practice round before the big event and have brought my brother Paul along to help Wilbur prepare best for the event.
We have also teamed up with Bushnell for this video to talk about the rangefinders which will be used in the 2021 US PGA Championships. Bushnell are the number 1 used range finder on tour and will be featured heavily in this years major championship.

A bit surprised that it seemed the caddie hadn’t seen the holes before and was doing it all off course guide, eg comment in vid 1 that he thought there was more space round a green but there actually wasn’t when he saw it... Had he and Will discussed shot patterns and preferences before playing?

It was the first time I had seen the course along with Will. I am not a professional caddy but a +1 golfer who plays a lot with Will and decided to give my time in this vlog and for the actual tournament to try and help him out if that makes sense. What you see is basically what I was seeing for the first time and we were trying to work the shots out before the camera was turned on on each hole

Good to hear Will's own assessment of the green complex and bunkering on the par 3. With all due respect to his caddie, whom I am sure is volunteering his time and I have no idea what he plays off, it's a big call to say go long; and you are not getting out of the front bunkers unless he knows the course and where the miss really is. Am sure Will will work it all out for himself on real practice round, which I would say is advisable - nobody else to blame then! Google maps is also useful for measuring fairway widths and pinch points off the tee for clubbing. Good luck Will.

Hi Ian yes I am volunteering my time to caddy for Will as he is a good friend of mine. The decision to go long was down to a conversation I had with the head greenkeeper who said these bunkers had just been revetted and sanded. So into a gale I didn’t want Will to flare it and it come up short and plug under the face I’m off +1 but perhaps over thinking shots like this and being too analytical is stopping me getting to +2 who knows Hope this helps

Caddy... the miss is long. Wilbur... im a take short, I dont mind the bunkers. ........ A pros , pro like Wilbur thinking of being unafraid of bunkers, i remember being afraid of bunkers, but once you get better at them, they almost become your crutch that you know can create some breaks on the ball if struck right. But the back long, does seem to have the better lies, all be it you coming down slope. I'm a side with will, give me bunkers and up slope any day. As seen with Paul, an excellent chip can still run away from the flag. That's what practice rounds all about to learn each other and come up with the best laid plan.

first hole..........valid question sir, why if the wind is left to right are you aiming down the middle of the fairway? why not aim right edge of the bunkers, tee up on the right of the tee so the wind does not push the ball so much... what do you think sir? understanding ball flight is the key to playing in the wind..... i dont normally get replies. love the channel, love the big man also... best of the best Dan.......

Because they wanted to finish right side of fairway, to give best angle for approach to the pin on the left. As Jack Nicklaus, plan your hole strategy from the hole backwards. The only way to play.

Two things I took away from this vlog. Paul seeing the tree and even though he hit behind it he saw something I would have never seen or considered. I’m actually starting to prefer your videos to sky/cbs ‘pro’ coverage - your camera shots give a better idea of where the ball is in relation to tee / green. The ‘pro’ coverage are obsessed with zooming right in on every ball - so all you ever see is big close-up of ball against abstract green background - no idea where the ball actually is (can you guys take over Tour coverage with your 2 x small cameras)
