We banned Nestlé from building a bottled water plant in Cascade Locks. We made them include GMO information on our food labels, we forced them to reroute the oil train away from the Gorge. And a lot more. Coal terminals. LNG terminals. Anyone interested in activism should consider the Columbia River Keeper as an asset.

I am a born, & raised Oregonian & have live here my entire life. I too am so proud of our State Supreme Court! They saw completely through the republican BS. "The voters didn't understand what they were voting for". Yes. We. Did!! And the Oregon S.C. agreed. I am so tired of Republicans treating the voters as though we are idiots (and yes there are some of those). Oh, I am a life long Democrat, and if it the Democrat legislatures pulled the same thing, I would have voted the same way! Because my country comes first, not my political party!

Yes, but there is a difference between habitual vacancy because you don't like the laws being proposed (ie what happened in Oregon) versus making a protest against the other party's censuring of a representative for speaking off topic. @@jham7411 Yup. If Texas wants to pass a bill making it so those members cannot be re-elected? Sure. I don't have a problem with that. Can you tell me how many votes throughout the year did they miss? They did walk out to put a spotlight on how un-democratic the GOP in Texas were being by limiting means of voting and also trying to pass a law so that voters cannot vote in private. The guy who kept leading the walkouts here in Oregon was my 7th and 8th grade Social Studies teacher back in the 80’s. He did a whole course each year on law and constitutional law and that was my favorite thing in school. Somehow, he forgot everything he taught us in school and became a cranky old Republican representative who refused to go to work and do his damned job! I’m super proud to have voted to fire my former teacher for doing the complete opposite of what he taught us as kids. He needed to retire to his little farm and chill out. I did feel bad for a while though. His second wife died several years ago, and I took a minute to look at her Facebook page after I sent him my sympathy. Her page was full of racist, rage baiting posts. I’m sure she had some influence over this guy I used to know, by filling his world with hate every day. Now, instead of retiring his grumpy self to his farm, the citizens of my town have voted him on to the city counsel and now he’s obstructing any decent plans we have. Our homeless population has quadrupled and he’s refused federal funds to create warming stations, shelters, and treatment centers for the drug addicted. His reasoning is that the mayor (who has no actual power) is a democrat so he can blame her. He truly exists to point out how broken everything is, by keeping it broken. The head of our town Republican Party is a woman from Orange County California who is very much into Q theory and regularly hosts people who have warning pages on the SPLC website. She had a public watch party for a Mike Pillow (Lindell) production a couple months ago. A complete Q nutty nutter butter.

I hate hearing about those types of people who engage in racist talk and behavior and engage in irrational conspiracy theories. It sickens me. It's evil and unnatural in my opinion. Just today I heard about the man from Tennessee and the militias from other states ( I think Oregon was one) planning to go to the border and basically make war on vulnerable people. They've been told there's an invasion and believe somehow that illegals benefit Democrats and that we've planned this. This kind of talk and behavior is so dangerous and will lead to many more innocent people dying. The entire Republican party, most especially MAGA , ... and their right wing media, are the ones responsible for this and should be held accountable. Even though this win doesn't address these other problems of lying and misinformation and dog whistling, it's a start.
