Check out her audition on AGT 2018 when she was 13. Amazing

Courtney Hadwin is a 19 year old English singer/songwriter who first came to fame in 2018 when she came to America to be on America's Got Talent and blew everybody away. Circumstances have severely limited her official releases until this year, when she came out with her first four official original releases and concept videos, with an original Christmas song coming out Friday and an album early next year. To really get a sense of her talent, her AGT performances at 13/14 years old and her Voice Kids UK songs at 12 are a must. Most people who've seen them agree, were it not for the pandemic and artistic differences and general upheaval at her label, she'd be a major star by now, instead of having only 5 official releases, all covers, to show for the previous 4 years. She's now an independent artist, singing her own songs, and doing a fantastic job!

If thus is the first time you've heard Courtney you have to react to more of her. She can sing any style of music but she has one of the best Rock voices I've heard since the 70's. Fantastic vocals. Thanks for the reaction

Hi R&C. Nice reaction. So cool that you came across Courtney's music. She is amazing. You would have no way of knowing after just one song, but she is truly a generational level talent. Unbelievable vocal power, control and range. You just heard what a killer rock voice she has and when she is on stage, she dominates a stage like no other. However, her vocal versatility is astounding. Courtney is equally as great across so many genres besides rock. R&B, Funk, Soul, Ballads and more. The most incredible thing is, whatever the genre, there is never a drop off to the incredible quality of her music. Virtually all artists, even the biggest, have their comfort zone. Inside that zone, they are great, but take them outside that zone, and not so much. We've yet to see where Courtney's comfort zone ends, because she can sing virtually anything exquisitely. To hear one of her ballads is to truly appreciate what a gorgeous voice she has, Courtney first rose to worldwide fame when she appeared on America's Got Talent (AGT) in 2018 when she was 13. Her audition went viral and now has over 1 billion overall on line views. Courtney herself is closing in on 3 billion views. She has die-hard fans from virtually every country in the world. While on AGT, Courtney sang exclusively classic rock from the 60's and 70's by the likes of James Brown, Tina Turner and Janis Joplin. Courtney was so great on AGT that she was almost immediately signed to a record deal at Syco/Arista records (Sony Music). After AGT, those that knew her from only there, viewed her as this fabulous stage dominating rocker, which she surely is. But, she is so, so much more. As I mentioned above, her range is astounding. So in 2019, she released an EP called the 'Cover Sessions' where she took some of the biggest recent hits across different genres, and re-invented them into her vision of the way they could have been sung. They were all sensational. The purpose was to highlight both her incredible vocal versatility and her off the charts creativity. All four of the 'Cover Session' songs are available on her KZbin channel. That Courtney is not already a household name is mostly a matter of bad luck regarding timing. Of course, there was the pandemic, which delayed her album release for over two years. However, there was more. She was slated to be the youngest performer at the 50th anniversary of Woodstock, but that was ultimately cancelled due to logistic and financial reasons. Then her label was sold, which caused more chaos. Then there was the fact that for years, her label kept trying to turn her into something she said she never wanted to be. Another pop princess. Does that incredible rock voice you just heard belong limited to pop songs? Fortunately, Courtney stood her ground and, as soon as she could, at the beginning of this year, she left her label and went independent, Courtney has a huge song library that she hasn't been able to release because of the reasons described above, but she has shared many of them, in whole or in part with fans, and they are all sensational. She is such a powerhouse as a songwriter. Since she has gone independent this year, she has already released four mind blowing originals. Her first three originals were non-rock. They were 'Breakable', a gorgeous gritty ballad, 'That Girl Don't Live Here', an amazing uptempo jazzy number with a touch of almost 1940's Swing and 'Call Me Back', which will rip your heart out every time you hear it. All are available on her KZbin channel. 'Monsters' was her first step back into her rock persona. When Courtney is in control of her own destiny, amazing things happen. Now that she's independent, she has said to expect a release every month or two. Her next release, 'Christmas Rocks' is scheduled for November 24th, so can't wait for that one. So buckle up. It's going to be an incredible ride. I can't wait to hear you react to more of Courtney's music. If you're doing more Courtney, you have me as a subscriber.

Ms. Courtney Hadwin is now 19yo. She's been through a LOT in past 6 years. In 2017, before her 13th birthday (which is in July) she went on The Voice Kids UK season 1 to compete for the first prize money to be able to start recording her own music. She wanted to be a rcckstar. Being GenZ kid, she grew up with KZbin available. Turns out, kids can learn a LOT by truly STUDYING old classic live performances of musicians, singers, and rock bands, amongst many others. Like young Ms. Angelina Jordan, who is 18 months younger than Ms. Courtney, she focused on the music from her GRANDPARENTS' era. The music from the roots of Rock'n'Roll, R&B, and all that eventually grew into today's music. Ms. Courtney's heroes were the likes of Etta James, Tina Turner, Janis Joplin, James Brown, Otis Redding, Lil' Richard,...and, of course, Mick Jagger, who himself learned by STUDYING James Brown and others in their live performances. Here are a few older and newer vids to which you may want to react. They'll also give you more context for this young singer-songwriter. Firstly, the internet trolls and vicious critics made Ms. Courtney's life from 14yo to at least 18yo pretty damned difficult when her 2018 audition on AGT went viral. By the time of her SECOND performance on AGT during that season, on, I believe, the first LIVE TV episode of that show sometime after her 14th birthday, the vid of her audition here on KZbin had already received 200 MILLION views. You'll see why. But I'd strongly recommend going about this in a particular way. This is a one-time-only opportunity. First, watch a BACKGROUND vid (no reaction needed) that explicitly CUTS OUT her actual performance, just giving the CONTEXT of what happened that day, from when Ms. Courtney and her dad signed in, through time backstage, and on through when she finally goes onstage and talks with MelB, the judge deemed by the show to be least threatening to this scared young 13yo girl who'd had to skip her turn onstage several times as she was too scared to go on. This was a MUCH BIGGER venue, not at all focused on kids like TVK-UK had been. MUCH BIGGER. Here's that background vid: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mH6ti616r9yYgZY Second, for the actual performance of Otis Redding's posthumously released 1968 hit "Hard to Handle", adapted by Ms. Courtney to be sung from a FEMALE protagonists viewpoint (like Etta James here kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z3WmmYptgdmiqbs) with, again, her coming onstage and talking with MelB. AS SOON AS SHE PUTS HER HEAD DOWN THE SECOND TIME, before the music starts, SHUT YOUR EYES! KEEP THEM SHUT! Just LISTEN. When she finishes singing, then open your eyes again, go back to where you closed your eyes and NOW both listen and WATCH what the music and all that STRESS and FEAR that her dream would DIE TODAY, killed by savage Simon or any/all of the other judges whom she's heard ALL DAY berating other acts. She's only 13, hopefully you remember just how BIG things could seem to a young shy teenager. How little perspective kids have on just how long they'll have to change their lives later. She truly believed this was it. Her dreams of following in her heroes footsteps would END...TODAY. Here's what happened: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ooG6f3WLqbKBqbM I truly believe that was the GREATEST MAGIC ACT ever to appear on AGT. That little girl TRANSMUTED all that STRESS and FEAR into a frenetic ENERGY that she FLOODED the audience with. Had them on their feet in about 15 to 20 seconds with not only those actions, but THAT VOICE...that OLD SOUL's old voice coming from that young girl. Her STAGE PRESENCE once she broke free of her fears was just STELLAR!! I'm absolutely HOOKED on that VOICE that can transport me back to the 1960's in literally moments. She ROCKS even when she's not rocking out. She got a LOT of flack about shouting, screaming, not singing, being a BAD vocalist, NOT a musician, and a CHEAT because they 'discovered' she'd been on TVK-UK the year before and had competed in local, regional, and even a national vocal contest before. They accused her of ACTING scared (in which case, might I suggest someone award her a WELL-DESERVED OSCAR, immediately)! Of PRETENDING to be shy. Fortunately, many who knew her, family, friends, teachers, etc. came to her defense, but on the internet the trolls get the attention. Even in some of the media. It's a shame, really. Those teenage years are pretty hard on EVERYONE without all the added negative attention she received. Now, late in 2023, when Ms. Courtney sings about her 'Monsters', she's not just talking about the normal human 'standard issue' of a tiny devil on one shoulder whispering in one ear and tiny angel on the other shoulder whispering in her other ear. See what YOU think. Try my experiment above, please. Trust me, it's impossible to do once you've seen her audition. Gotta do it the FIRST time. Enjoy! Oh, and her first original single, one of five as of end of THIS week in November, is a good place to start on what HER OWN music sounds like. Ms. Courtney is a very versatile singer, as she's proven (AGAIN, but that's another story) with those 5 originals. She's not shy to break down walls between genres, and has a unique style all her own. If you just listened to the START of one of her songs, you wouldn't expect the ENDING of any of them, IMHO. She takes you on a journey through each. Including Monsters, though that's the hardest rocking song of her first four. Breakable (1): kzbin.info/www/bejne/eoDNqoZrrJaCpNE That Girl Don't Live Here (2): kzbin.info/www/bejne/iKqsfYNqebWDitE Call Me Back (3): kzbin.info/www/bejne/nIa2mKx-d9J0p80 ALSO her SECOND performance on AGT in 2018 was James Brown's 1965 hit "Papa's Got A Brand New Bag" (1960's slang, 'bag' in that context := situation, way of doing things, not just a job). Be sure to listen to ALL of the stuff at the start, including the AGT-filmed clip of Ms. Courtney talking about Janis Joplin. Including also the hostess, Tyra Banks, telling the live and TV audience that Ms. Courtney's audition vid had already received 200 MILLION VIEWS: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fXqwaYKhbclknLs THIS is the young rockstar out to secure her future. She'd tried to memorize and reproduce James Brown's dancing and performance, but decided that was too hard and wasn't worth doing...that she wanted to do it HER WAY and just let the music guide her as she performed. BE SURE TO WATCH AND LISTEN TO SIMON'S REACTION from the moment he gets up and goes over and mugs Howie from behind, THANKING HIM PROFUSELY for giving Ms. Courtney his one Golden Buzzer for the season. Listen to the advice he has for Ms. Courtney in front of God and everybody watching. It's worth it, truly. I'm pretty sure you've NEVER heard Simon Cowell say that to ANYONE ELSE, EVER. Mr. SYCO Music himself. And, yes, of course he signed Ms. Courtney in December in an odd contract co-signing her with Arista too. Then it gets WIERD. But that's yet another story.

Whoa. Thank you for the comment. You took a lot of time to provide not just information but links to videos I'll check out. I didn't realize she was only 19. I had no idea of her past or the difficulties she faced, including harassment from internet trolls. I will watch the videos. I may do it offline while working on my game, or I may watch them on a Twitch stream so others can join, if they want.

Damn dude, that was an excellent post about what happened back then. Very detailed on some of the important facts of what went down and in the correct way to re-experience it all. I try to read any comment as if I was a stranger to the situations and I think you nailed it. Keep on enlightening all who care about Courtney. Your facts are spot on and just as I remembered. 👍

@@rantandchill9503 THANK YOU! Whatever you do, PLEASE help all of us fans [especially the semi-rabid ones like me] to spread the word about this incredible young singer-songwriter trying her best to reconnect with all those who've previously enjoyed her covers of old songs. Funnily, 19 similar old classic songs shared the top 25 spots on Billboard’s "Hard Rock Digital Song Sales" chart the week of 14 Oct 2023 with her new song Monsters. She was No.19 on that list. Yep, some were below her song on that list. Not at ALL bad for a 19yo indie singer-songwriter on a shoestring budget!

Welcome to the World of Courtney Hadwin It's a girl you should never expect the expected. She is independent artist after many ups and downs. She makes music by herself and with Kevin Bowe. She pays for everything herself. To her haters she just says Hit the road Jack and never come back. It's a girl who got a lot of skin on her nose since was on AGT. But she's also a down-to-earth girl who really keeps in touch with her fans over social media with live chats about one thing and another. Sometimes she sings a song or two.
