If I remember correctly, Danzig wrote this song as a protest against Tipper Gore and the PMRC and their push to get the Parental Advisory sticker put on albums. Or the episode of Operah with Tipper, Ice-T and Jello Biafera (of Dead Kennedys fame) so damn good.

Going back and watching the old footage, I gained a whole new respect for John Denver actually. He was at no risk of his music being censored, with its easy-listening 70s hippie sound, but he joined the fight anyway because it was the right thing to do. Massive respect for that.
@bcole113426 күн бұрын
@jeremyt2212 that's just the thing, he was looking at getting a Tipper Sticker because they claimed that his song Rocky Mountaina High promoted drug use. Also on the list was the Feank Zappa album Jazz From Hell, which was, ironically, a instrumental a!bum.
@Dragon_Werks25 күн бұрын
@@jeremyt2212John Denver was targeted for the song Rocky Mountain High, because they claimed it promoted drug use. Then, in their arrogant stupidity, the PMRC asked him to testify ON THEIR BEHALF, against all the artists who were being targeted. Glenn Danzig is an absolute legend... Started doing drugs and drinking at age 10, got clean at age 15 (lol!). He's a master of Jeet Kune Do (Bruce Lee's kung-fu style), and a body builder (following the teachings of none other than Arnold Schwarzenegger). Started in the music business as a drum roadie at age 11 (again, LOL!). By the mid-70's he started horror-core band Misfits, which lasted till the early 80's. He couldn't get Misfits signed at first and was told he would never have a music career by producers. Then he started Samhain, which was renamed in the late 80's to Danzig. All of his bands are absolute fire.

Catching up on your reactions. I can't stop laughing 😂. That went EXACTLY like I thought it would. A couple of years back around where I live there was this convention and metal show event called Rock N Shock they'd do around Halloween (I want to say one year it was Halloween). You'd go to a horror con during the day and meet horror celebrities like Kane Hodder or Bruce Campbell then just up the street a little bit your convention ticket got you into the metal show. Two years in a row Danzig headlined it. They stopped doing it because of Covid they couldn't afford to keep it going, but I miss it so goddamn much. And Danzig live is amazing. Not just performance wise but he's the only frontman I've ever seen who slowly, no rush, like he owns the place, walks on stage. Like the walking embodiment of cool.

I love your reaction to the singer lol. I remember when I first saw it, when it originally came out, and I was quite taken aback myself to note the difference between him and the typical rock & roll singer of the time and those that came before. In my day most rockers got their sustained energy from certain substances, and if they needed a boost while on the road, they just added more substances, until they virtually withered away. See David Gahan of Depeche Mode, who snorted his way through a number of tours and albums, and the Rolling Stones who subsisted on downer-type drugs most the day until they had to go onstage, at which point they pumped their noses and what was left of their brains full of... other stuff on their 70s tours.

Glenn Danzig (vocals) is legendary for his vocals, his career and his rather difficult personality... 😁 Danzig was the 3rd band he had formed in his life in 1988 w/ John Christ (guitar), Eerie Von (bass) and Chuck Biscuits (drums)... but the line-up changed frequently after 1995. Glenn Danzig first found fame w/ punk rock legends The Misfits in 1977, until he acrimoniously left the band in 1983... He formed the gothic rock band Samhain in the 80's and they were short-lived. Producer Rick Rubin met Glenn Danzig in 1988 and convinced him to disband Samhain and form Danzig and signed to his label American Recordings ... 'Mother' was from their '88 debut album as Glenn assumed the persona of 'evil Elvis'... However, after 4 Danzig albums, Glenn's relationship w/ Rubin deteriorated and he ended his tenure w/ American Recordings... Danzig carried on w/ numerous members and has a total of 11 studio albums of dark, gothic heavy rock. Recently, Glenn Danzig reunited w/ The Misfits to play occasional shows.

That was not what I was expecting, but that song was great and very impressive. Loved the energy of it, and the energy of your reaction and engagement with the song. No judgment on your preferences, even identifying as a straight main he definitely looks good.

I have seen recent clips of Glenn in concert and am really glad that his vocal quality has improved. He went through a few years where he sounded really rough. Now he sounds like the early days and it sounds great.

This is danzigs most popular but far from their best, check out "how the gods kill" or "devils playing" or "godless" among many others

The first time hearing Danzig can be such a wild thing, especially in the throes of autumn decay. I absolutely adore his first three albums... Her Black Wings, Twist of Cain, She Rides, Blood and Tears... there's a lot to love if you dig it
