I have had henna in my hair for nearly 3 years, and while I JUST hennaed it right before filming this, I decided I wanted some change. Since we are in quarantine, I feel like it's a good time to play with change and hair is- at least for me- one of my go-to ways of filling that need for change.
I LOVE having red hair, and will most likely go back to it at some point and use henna again- but for now, I was ready to do something different.

Courtney Violetta Yes me . I have a very long hair it was virgin hair super dark like my picture and wanted the red a always wanted, I used a 000 hair dye to go lighter without bleach since it was virgin hair, ended up beautiful shade not orange, then I put henna and cassia 50 and 50 , I love it , it is like a cooper shade but not too orange or red sometime I’ll go for the red . Hoho I copied your recipe by the way 😊 , and subscribed yo your channel 😍🤗

So, I've used Color Oops and such for going from around the same color as you to blond, blue or brown in the past. It was actually recommended by my hairdresser as a safety net to be sure we would get optimal result when doing a drastic color change. Maybe you already know this, but for those of you who don't: Color removers and bleach won't take out henna. When there's a change in color, it's because the base under your henna is chemically modified by those products. Hair chemistry 101 about henna: Henna coats hair, chemical colors change the structure/replace the molecules of your natural hair color. Henna is like putting a translucent colored nail polish on top of already painted nails. Won't change what's under, but will change the color we see in the end. When you use color remover (like Color Oops), you need the long rinsing time cause you're actually rinsing away color molecules. If you don't, you'll still have chemicals in and it will impact your next coloration. It's to take out the internal build up of chemical dyes. It won't give your natural color back, it just takes out everything so you need to put another color in. That's why your hair is ''stretchy'' after - it's basically empty and needs to be filled in. And yeah, the smell is nasty and lingers 😂 It's actually a good idea to do a color remover BEFORE a bleach because it cuts the bleaching process time and so, the bleaching damage risk is also reduced. I'm pretty sure I'm forgetting infos, but I thought it would be useful for all of you going through cabin-fever impulse hair change phases 😄 I'm actually gonna do that soon too! All the infos I have is from my hairdresser, my own experiences and from a little bit of research through the years. Also, my mom use to change her hair color almost every month hahaha For more hair knowledge, I've also been watching Brad Mondo's channel a lot lately. Good tips and some sassiness, you should check it out. Wish you all luck with you hair endeavours!

This is so useful, thank you! I’ve been using henna for 15 years and I’m finally ready for a new hair era! I’ve just been growing my hair out for the past year, and I’m sick of the two-toned look, so I’m definitely doing to be trying some of these techniques to speed up the process and make it blend a bit better with my natural hair!

I loved your original henna colour, but I'm really impressed by how much henna you managed to get out! I was expecting it to come out much more orange, so well done! It's actually very blonde! :) Just one thing, another thing that people need to be aware of, as well as metallic salts, is indigo. If you have used any henna mixture with indigo, even from a good quality brand like Light Mountain for example, I believe it will go green if you bleach it, as indigo is blue-based. I'm not speaking from experience, but perhaps there are people out there who can back me up on this
@ashleycraft5025
@ashleycraft5025 4 жыл бұрын
This is true, unfortunately. I used regular henna for a year and bleached, no problem. I used henna with Indio (50/50 mix) and I am forced to stay.somewhat dark because bleaching reveals a lot of green areas underneath

I confirm. Happened to bleach my hair where my lenghts were virgin but my tips had rests of organic henna and indigo. My lenghts became yellow-orange and my tips green. Still trying to figure out how to get rid of that green by toning it red lol

Ashley Craft I have a question because I’m suffering with the same thing.. Can henna cover this? And make it ginger? Like my hair is about black because of my mixture? If I do end up lightening it and it goes green and I do henna on top after what color do you think it will go? My goal is ginger hair

I read here forums.longhaircommunity.com/archive/index.php/t-5270.html that you can make a henna gloss using pure henna and conditioner and leave it on for 2 hours to tone out the green. Again, not speaking from personal experience, I'm not sure about achieving a ginger colour. It will depend what colour you get after the gloss

I really appreciate this video, because most henna removal video are about people who have on 2 months-a year worth of henna on their hair, so it’s a lot easier to get out. I also have 3 years worth of henna on my hair. Before quarantine it was Ariel red. I’ve been trying to get as close to my natural color as possible (dark blonde). It’s been stressful, but now I’m at a reddish brown! I did some oil treatments as well, but I feel like it took out as much as possible, so I decided to get my hair highlighted and colored, and that made a huge difference. Once the hair salons open, I’m planning on getting a balayage :).

3 years of henna and I too want to be strawberry blonde. This couldnt be more timely! I also just put an order in for Sallys last night - bleach and also level 8 colors. I bought like 4 tubes so I have options ha. My hair has just been so dark and its not me. I was going to just bleach it and color it a few days later but maybe I'll consider the bleach bath. What a RISKY time to be doing all this with all salons being closed, but also a great time because no one has to see us LOL.

Thank you for this. Your experience just reinforces my conviction to never, ever use chemical dyes or color removers. I cannot justify damaging my hair and making it stretchy and dry to the point that I'd have to become dependent on protein packs. Protein washes out of your hair within weeks; it is not a permanent treatment. It took me a very long time to grow out my damage and I'm not about to go there again.

Head and Shoulders strips the color some, so do vinegar and citric acid (can find citric acid by the canning supplies at the grocery store). It doesn't remove it, but it lightens it up over time. It brings my hair from an auburn to a natural looking deep copper red over about 6 weeks, then I henna/cassia my roots again, because I'm not actually trying to remove my henna, just keep it from getting too dark. Btw I am dirty blond underneath, so my hair will get lighter than a brunette's.

I made also some experiments with my hair. Because of Henna I have an orange haircolour insteat of a middleblonde. First I take two packets of backin powder and wash it out. Then I take a lot of germling oil and last it for 3,5 hours. I washed it out with Shampoo and then I do some Honey with water (ratio: 4:1) in my hair and last it for 2 h. I washed it out and take some chamomile tea over my hairs. In the end I dryed my hair and there it is. The redcolour is completly away and I have nearly my natural haircolour. And there are also some gold glance in my hair. I will do it next week again but the other time overnight. But I will leave out the bakin powder, because it destoyes my hairstructure. Honey is perfect and also chamomile is.

It's not as fast of a process, but I fade my henna with Head and Shoulders shampoo or Dawn dish soap, using those instead of my shampoo. It doesn't damage my hair, but I don't have dry hair. I also find that if minerals from my hard water build up in my hair over time (like how us natural blonds get greenish hair if we swim a lot), apple cider vinegar rinses take that mineral build up out pretty well. You can also dissolve citric acid powder (usually by the canning section at the grocery store) in water and apply that in your hair to "brighten" henna. Some stores try to sell this as a way to lighten henna that has gone to dark, but if you read the ingredients, it's just citric acid, so it's cheaper from the grocery store. I have the same problem as she does that my henna, even though I mix it with cassia, gets too dark over time. Edit: After thought, maybe it fades because I have an oil scalp 🤔 So I don't even need to do oil treatments, just not wash it for a day and it is a an oil slick.

Whenever I went from henna or indigo to synthetic dyes also blue and other colours my hair were damaged, but when I go back to plantbased dyes like henna or indigo or no dying my hair is better. I used so called organic synthetic dyes without amoniac but I got allergies still. After five years being blonde my hair was damaged, I got allergies and my hair was falling-I guess no offence when you"re 20 or something you wanna do as many synthetic dyes as possible but when you"re getting older you realize how bad is it for your hair long term, Im not judging anyone I was the same in my 20s. I know I use amla oil when Im dying my hair with henna or indigo and shinkakai powder. :) When I was blonde even hair oils or hair masks didnt help me, but going back to my natural colour of hair.

I totally have the urge to color my hair, but since I buzzed my hair off almost 10 months ago I don’t want to ruin it by damaging it now. I have a dark golden blonde hair color and I will love the color when it’s a bit longer. I think the golden hair tones looks best on you, it’s really flattering your skintone, the platinum cool blonde did not suit you as well as the golden did! So my tip for you is to grow out your natural color for a few months, then tone down your hair a little bit and remove the brassiness. A more natural copper blonde would look great on you! Lockdown story: 3 weeks ago I henna rouge'd my virgin blondey-browney-slightly-gingery hair and it came out so so orange. I got really upset, did 4 x 12 hour oil treatments, gave up (because sleeping with your hair soaked in oil every night is a nightmare) and then realised it was washing out at a really fast rate anyway? My hair has now faded to the light gingery tone I wanted and I really like it as it's really shiny. I think because I'd only done it once it just hadn't stuck to the hair as much as when you do repetitive treatments? Either way, I'm so happy as when I say orange, I mean ORANGE

try to mix your henna with Cassia next time! Cassia is basicly invisible but conditions the hair. 50/50 henna / cassia might give you a nice muted copper color next time 😁

@@Sara-ok9xj yes and it worked well! Two bleaching sessions with 30v took pretty much all of it out. Left me with light orange that was easily covered with an ash dark blonde. I also didn't lose any hair and it's recuperating well from the damage. But I made sure the henna had no metallic salts and no indigo.

Alright guys. I’m a big henna user. I’ve been applying it for about three years. A few months ago I decided I needed to change everything about myself and went and had my hair highlighted and cut. It turned out blonde in some spots and red in others and she ended up having to cut off the bottom of my hair because it was vibrant orange. But the middle and it turned out pretty decent and faded into a nice caramel kind of color. I hennaed over that when it grew out. Just did 2 vitamin c washes and I already have blonde streaks back in my hair. It really does work. It’s VERY drying though. Maybe use conditioner instead of shampoo?

Every time I put henna in my hair I always regret it unfortunately 😅 I wish I could stick to one color but so far I have proven to myself that I can’t stick to one color. Henna is for people who are 200% sure that’s the color they want to stick with. What I have learned is to lighten it a couple shades at a time, put professional dye over it that will tone out the brass, Leave it for a few months, and repeat. I just use color oops when I remove the permanent dye, then a bleach wash, then professional dye. But you only want to color your hair about 3x per year to keep it healthy.

HI dear! When it comes to henna, you are my MUSE since 2 years. I am right NOW in the process of lifting the henna from my hair. I want it to stay red, but I want to lift the color around my face a bit as I feel its too dark and I am DONE with wintery vibes. I am intending to do the procedure with 6% developer and baking soda. Please tell me ASAP if you think thats wrong!! (of course I'll do a test strand first) Sending you hugs and good vibes xoxo

@@Chaoticallynikki Hi, I did that, left it on for 25 minutes. It did not do that incredibly much, but didnt hurt either. I applied coconut oil afterwards, left it in for the night and another wave of red came out. Still, I did not see a drastic difference in the final results although I saw the color going down in the shower. Good luck!

You got some good results. When I tried to get my henna out, the vitamin C treatments did NOTHING. I did a few and zero results. Then I used the colour oops a few times. Did NOTHING except make my hair stink for weeks. Finally I just bleached my hair. It was a radiant orange lol. Then I bleached it again 2 weeks later after doing treatments and burned my hair off in certain parts. I got it light enough though to box dye it with a blonde colour. My hair was pretty damaged though and I had to cut it quite short. It was so long before that. Then I wished I just never bleached it and just started using a red box dye on my roots until my hair gradually grows out the henna. Maybe the lush henna is not as strong and easier to get out. I started with lush henna but found it too messy and then started buying powdered henna which I found easier to apply. Maybe that one was much stronger than lush that's why I had so much trouble getting it out.

Lush fades well, I noticed for my daughter and goes away almost completely over 6 months but I used henna guys henna powder on her rouge and that one has stuck for over a year. So yes I think some brands are much stronger, especially if they don't have the conditioner in them already. My daughter has 3b hair Locs with henna and I think I want to do the vitamin c oil and sunlight mask and see what we get, just get some blonde on her tips back without damage. We will see.
