Your lady would like Bird and Magic on David Letterman, it shows their personalities and respect for each other. You'll want to do it in 2 parts.

Larry was the most competitive player ever, and he still had that college loss stuck in his craw, he said so and he came back and won, but once their careers ended and the competition ended they became best of friends. They both praise each other now.

I do remember Larry saying after he found out Magic wasn't playing anymore that he lost interest in the game. It wasn't fun anymore. They became friends. It was really hard to watch basketball for a long time for me. It just wasn't the same.

If you guys like these long format documentary videos, The Doctor about Julius Erving Is a must watch. It shows you why, Magic, Michael, Isiah... they all wanted to be like Dr J.

Same here. Larry worked his ass off and involved his team when he could have had much higher numbers. Great guy.

Great reaction!! You both probably need to watch "Making the Case, Larry Bird"👍

Larry had a harder time being a "killer" on the court against a friend. I'm thinking it is the same part of Bird that we see later in his loyalty to Magic when he was diagnosed. Magic totally understands it. The David Letterman interview with them might be a must see to understand it better. Loyalty, in my opinion, is a big part of Bird. And I think, Bird's first loyalty on the court was to his team. Not some buddy. If being buddies meant being distracted and not getting the team, or personal, Win, then he wasn't going to be buddies.

It really wasn't that "Racist" back in the 80's OR 90's; It's just that the Media would try & twist it into that, Just like they are today. Great Reaction

You should check out the video Making The Case Larry Bird. Another video about his greatness but it was concentrated on the rivalry between Michael Jordan and Bird.

10:08 It might have been that Larry thought he was up 2-1 at that time Magic won the college game and Larry won the pro game, but in between Larry beat Magic in "Rookie of the Year" with with a vote of 63 to 3.

Magic was sleeping around and flying high and flashy and Larry never wanted any part of that nonsense. He saw Ervin underneath all that.

Yet and still Lakers were 2-1 against Boston in the championships during their era. Ultimately Magic and the Lakers reigned supreme. But both teams were in 8 out of 10 championships in that decade. That speaks volumes.

4 is already too many. A couple people have done the whole thing at once. Those were great. Knock it out in the next one. Good job backing it up to find out what you missed if you talk over it. Too many people miss extremely important little details that explain other things in a big way

Magic's career & life were so much easier to a point ...then Larry Birds had ever been! Larry had to work 2-3 times harder to get where he was! Magic walked on to a team with Kareem! Bird walked on to a team that was 29 -53 the previous season! He busted his ass to bring them up to 61-21... I believe.

In the 60s the NBA was being challenged by the ABA, which of course took a lot of talent away from the NBA… and helped lead to the drop in attendance after the merger of these two leagues than magic, and Larry appeared on the scene…… as far as the racial element of it.,It was more the older generations that created that controversy….. but it was also a time when all the laws were written to protect the black community…..

When they said Boston was 8-0 in the finals, at that point Bird only had 1. The greatest ever Bill Russell was the reasons why the Celtics ran off 10 straight championships in a row in the 50's & 60's. Also, as a huge fan of bird n magic, growing up in the west coast warriors fan we saw n witnessed how the media was biased and it wasn't bird's fault that the media was biased. Basketball players particularly blacks there was a stigma coming off of the closing down of the ABA. That what was once mostly league of white players were mainly black players now. Many media outlets had exposed and touted the ABA were full of black players on drugs especially cocaine use and crack was just beginning to make it's way into sports. But yes, two of my favorite b-ball players of all time and always will be bird n magic. That magic and bird will always in any conversation of the top 5 or top 10 of all time period..

america is still the same as it was in the 80's and boston is as well . and what isaiah thomas said about bird was right , if he was black he'd be another good black nba player . A lot of bird's hype was because he was white but what people don't know is that the reason why he was so great was the fact that growing up there was a country club close to where he lived that had a lot of black employees who whenever they played bsketball would let larry play when the white employees didn't and that's why he saw black people in general differently than the majority of white people where he lived which i know for sure didn't have or barely had any black people living there
