He had a mental awareness of where everybody was at on the court that’s why he was so good at passing and rebounding and everything that he did. It had nothing to do with being athletic. To him it was like a chess game.

That was the 1986 3pt contest where he says....im just looking for who's coming in second... In 1988, he actually struggled a bit, but was still in his warm up jacket. Won it with a finger up in the air....before the ball went in. The left handed game was against the ONLY team (50-1) that beat the Celtics at home. He told the media he'd going left handed for at least 3 quarters. When asked, he said he was saving his right hand for the Lakers.

The only player to tell you where he's going ,where he's going to shoot ,, the type of shot he was going to shoot and there was Jack shiite you could do about it !....no one in basketball history to this day can do what Larry legend did full stop!...and the best clutch shooter barr none .....

The game with the fight with Dr J should be on here. They were pretty much heads up all night. Both playing really physically, and both complaining to the refs who weren't calling anything. Larry was basically scoring at will, while shutting down Dr J, and he kept calling their individual scores "6 to 6" ,"12 to 6", "42 to 6". Finally the refs called an offensive foul on Larry. Larry was pissed at the call, Dr J was pissed about the foul and started talking when Larry just said "42-6" again, and the fight was on. Both teams, and both benches got involved, and Larry and J were both ejected. But at the end of the night Larry still went 42 to 6 over Dr J, and he even reminded the media of it when they asked about the fight after the game.

I got to watch bird when I was a kid and all that trash talk all that mean back and forth loved it. Nowadays most people your guys' age will cry every time somebody insults them a little bit. Nobody knows how to talk it and understand it's just part of the game anymore

Bird should be on everybody's top ten list. For me, a lifelong Celtics fan. he's somewhere in the 4-6 range. I know that if we had a magical draft, and the 5 year primes of every player ever were available to draft, I'd pick Larry first and build around him, because I would want to win. He makes everybody - demands everybody - to be better. It would be a smart, team first, passing team - think the 86 Celtics with Walton as 6th man, and replace everybody but Bird with all time 5 year primes via the draft. Maybe you'd snag DJ if he were on the board in round three, but for round two you need a big.

Bird only jumped as high as he needed to. Only ran as fast as he needed to. He controlled the game. Just watching his game, you can tell he is much more athletic than ehat he is described as. He was as athletic as he needed to be. He has plays that show his hops, and speed. He rarely needed to utilize those because of his skill. Work smarter, not harder. Kobe and Jordan understood this, as well. Funny thing is, they all worked their asses off, as well.
