Thanks for sharing. Born in Cov in the 70's and rememer it was better before. This video proves it. Left in the 90's to move down south and get the games when I can, but damn, the place feels soul-less outside of the ground.

In 1965 I was 16 and living in Coventry. It was a great place to live from around 1960 to 1970. In 1979 I emigrated to the USA, where I've been ever since. This video only scratches the surface of what Coventry had to offer. And it was only a 30-minute train ride from England's second city, Birmingham, which was also a wonderful place.

the post-war rebuild was really nice. i grew up in Coventry in the 70s, and remember it well from this footage. i left in 1984, never to return, and eventually moved to London, where i still live. it’s vandalism what they did to that precinct, it’s an absolute mess now.

thankyou for posting this , it captures Coventry as I remember it as a child . I was born and semi raised in Coventry , my late Father got promoted with his job in 1967 , and we moved up the road to Leicester in the Autumn of the following year , as it would have meant my Father travelling between the 2 Cities daily if we had not moved . I still go back as I have close friends there . I loved the beautiful shots of Broadgate with Lady Godiva's famous statue , and peeping Tom poking his head out of the clock to peep at Lady G on her horse , fantastic , and the City Arcade with it's birdcage . stuff like this I will carry in my memory until the day I die . thankyou

I lived in Coventry, went to Coventry College of Art (now Coventry University (?) I used to meet up with a friend and had coffee at Belgrade Theatre. I moved to live in London shortly after. It did look nice now that I see on the video. I never did like Coventry, it was too modern for me and preferred old Cities then and still do. It’s amazing that someone has a video camera back then, I couldn’t afford one!

There was a very old wishing well in town, always full of coins, just as all the city centre fountains were full of coins, all those wishes. It had a REAL underground walkway under the Centre when I was a kid, very A Clockwork Orange style. I still visit, but miss and sometimes weep for my old City.

There have been some improvements. Greyfriars Green, Broadgate, all looking much better. However I just think people make a place. The decent people of Coventry seem to go elsewhere for their shopping etc now. Leaving town to the scruff.

Appreciate your video thankyou very much But compared to the present time most people who were from the 50s 60s and 70s are gonna be critical of the new modern Coventry. they will see it as an utter complete mess and ruined as they've ripped up all the grass from.every where .chopped down all the trees from every where and removed comfortable wooden benches and replaced all with concrete and fountains plus unfortunately to make matters worse we've no more big.family. stores through mergers etc British home stores gone Woolworth gone co.operative gone Owen & Owen .gone these were.all great favourites Wheres all the improvements !!!

Todays generation isnt actually from Coventry, its "cosmopolitan". Strangely, all the new inhabitants are from the same places - the indian subcontinent and eastern europe. Immigration should be balanced - lets swap half a million asians for some canadians, australians, new zealanders, french, germans, italians, scandinavians etc etc. Of course they wouldnt want to come to the new coventry. Nope, its just pakistan, india, poland and romania - garnished by the overseas student population. I remember sixties coventry, and the coventrian people. All these years of labour council policies have destroyed the place more completely than the luftwaffe ever did.

To be honest, I never liked Coventry and still don’t! You either like or hate a place. I was born in 1977 just outside of Coventry both my grandparents lived in Cov so we visited family here a lot growing up. All I will say is this.... the one thing I do miss is the people from yesterday years ..... today’s generation are a disappointment in Coventry.

Coventry Precinct had nothing to do with so-called "brutalism." Many aspects of modernism, and modern building techniques, yes. The Precinct was filled with artwork, colourful mosaics, neon artwork on the buildings, fountains etc. Donald Gibson's plan was forward thinking, incorporated designs for modern life and was a boon to the people of Coventry.
