I lived in Coventry between 1984 & 88. I recall the station announcements being the clearest I've ever heard.

Great to see and remember the speed that trains pulled in. And with slamdoor stock, and without fecking "get behind the yellow line!"... Good old BR.

I lived in Coventry from 1986 to 1990, they were great years for the hobby.

0 mins Leamington to Nuneaton 1.30 mins Poole Manchester? Obligatory 85 used on most Manchester bound cross country and Ex Paddington trains. 1.47 mins ? To Poole Shame he didn't catch a freightliner as it would have likely had a roarer swinging around at near full chat.

Was you able to go direct to Paddington from cov or has it always been just Euston I’m convinced you could back in the day

My memory of the time was that 85s were getting quite rare on passengers by 1987, only a few turns were actually officially booked for them, of which the Euston-Northampton cobblers made up a fair chunk. They did still randomly turn up deputising for other things though, progressively less so as Class 90s came on stream and push-pull working reduced the required number of locos. I also seem to recall Poole trains sometimes changed engines at New Street instead of Coventry, and that some trains ran diesel throughout even as early as this. Certainly the New Street-Paddingtons would not have used an electric just as far as Coventry, different of course if they were coming from Liverpool or Manchester.

@@Courtney53035 There were a few Paddington to Liverpool and Manchester trains but most which went through Oxford were heading to and from Poole or Brighton.
