Or to be more accurate, the opponent definitely deserved the L. I would probably concede at the moment they drew back to back Bankbusters. And for sure when opponent cast the hullbreaker Horror. So props to CGB for not giving up

Watching those grind games are a JOY for me personally. I love those kinds of games when I'm playing them, and watching them when I don't have to be actively thinking about my own moves and instead learning from what the players are doing always helps me become a better pilot myself. Omg, match 1 was some of the most thrillingly grindy gameplay I've ever seen in my life. Any game where both players deck is a game I need to see. Holy cow, it's like climbing Everest only to lose your footing inches from the summit, then immediately find your foot was just above a rocky outcrop you can use to ascend to victory. Good lord what a way to end my day. Thank you for that CGB.

The ending of game 1 was a triple punt, right? Opponent should have used the hullbreaker passive to bounce the token, allowing him to attack for the win. Instead, he bounced the bankbuster and healed CGB for 3 preventing the attack from killing for punt 1. CGB cycled the land to draw during this, which would have made him deck first for pun 2. The opponent then cast memory deluge to pointlessly protect his hullbreaker and empty his deck for the punt 3.

Man, that Hullbreaker game. My first BRO draft had a similar game ending where I had to win with Altar of Dementia as I couldn't break through my opponent's board and I made a mistake and shuffled in a card from their graveyard that I shouldn't have. Then they made a mistake and drew a card they shouldn't have. If they'd not drawn they would have had 1 card left in the deck and had lethal on the crackback because of my mistake.

Jesus, maybe I'm stupid but it took me so many rewatches to realize what the misplay CGB is referring to in "I forgot! I should have just let that resolve," is. (In my defense, there were several questionable misplays in there.) He cycled the land when he couldn't afford to, because it brought him closer to decking out than the opponent. He did it to search for a way to prevent the Hullbreaker Horror from hitting his face, but he could have just taken the damage. And then the opponent didn't realize that CGB was now closer to decking out, so they played the Deluge, thinking that they needed their Hullbreaker alive to win (a play which made no sense on multiple levels, considering that they didn't have the time or mana to replay it). What a game. I feel for both players here. I regularly do dumb things in Magic because I make my plays too quickly and forget about some variable or other. Thinking several moves ahead reflexively is hard, sometimes.

That game was class!! I had a similar experience yesterday playing against an artifact deck. He used Tezzerets Ultimate so when he tapped artifacts he would draw a card. I just keep trying to block and he had lethal on me with 2 cards in the deck on his turn. All he had to do was attack with 1 of his 15/15 Karnstructs as I was on 10 life but attacked with 4 creatures and decked himself on combat. It was hilarious!!

Great games, that roadside reliquary from kamigawa looks pretty cool, although it was pretty fun playing mono white with buffing the autonomous assembler with the mishra's factory if you're lucky, or don't forget about that one as a cool throwback anyway. Or mishra's foundry now.

Genuinely curious to how much of an extent the meta determines strong cards versus how strong cards determine the meta. Bank buster, wedding announcement, fable, kakuzan, titan, sheodred... I feel these cards would ALWAYS be good no matter the set(s) or even deck. Do they intentionally make a few super efficient cards and balance round that? If so, I'm not sure I like it because I can't help but feel it leads to a less interesting meta.
