I find the concept of the Marvel MegaMorphs toyline to be hilarious. Like, The Avengers created giant transforming mechs to take out that one small guy, and that's overkilling it.

Since you mentioned Bandai, a lot of gunpla have transforming features despite being model kits and not toys per se. It’s impressive how well they work since it’s all plastic on plastic. No screws or hinges to hold anything place. No glue either. Granted they don’t always look the best (looking at the HG Wing Zero). The MG Zeta Gundam Ver. Ka is a technological marvel.
@primalconvoy8 ай бұрын
You could also include: - Bandai egg beasts (skeleton dinosaurs, Dracula, Frankenstein's monster, etc). - Ghostbusters transforming figures (Toilet, scooter, etc turn into ghost monsters). - Heman rocklord things (can't remember the name). - Matchbox cars that turned into alien robot things (you opened the cars and pulled out the compressed "robot" and transformed it, etc. - Some other Hotwheels-sized cars that turned into robots/animals (can't remember the names). - Gobots, Rocklords (and all the other tf robot toys that came out in parallel to TFs). - Werebears (cuddly teddybears that turned into monster bears by turning their faces and paws inside-out). - TMNT transforming action figures (Leonardo turned into a fire engine, I think?) - Dinosaurez (or something like that) by Bandai. Metallic dinosaur and prehistoric mammal fossils turned into robots. The main bad guy was called something like "Gigano Dragon" and turned into a silver oriental dragon. - Happy Meal transformers (the ones that turned from food and drink into robots) - The precursors to the infamous "Botbots".

The digivolving toys were my favorite toys as a kid. Season 2's toys were lacking to me but I loved season 1 and 3's toys. The digivolving playsets were cool too (evolved from one form to another, but also opened up to reveal a whole diorama inside of them with minifigs). I had all 3 of the season 3 digivolving playsets. I loved the digivolving toys so much that I ended up getting every single one of the rebooted Digivolving Spirits figures, even the blackwargreymon recolor lol. It's an absolute Travesty that they cancelled the new digivolving spirits line though. They had Gomamon>Zudomon, Palmon>Lillymon, Biyomon>Garudamon, Guilmon>Dukemon, and Impmon>Beelzemon figures in the works, but all were cancelled. They even showed prototypes of both Biyomon and Guilmon at toy shows, they looked so good, but never released. Hope to god they revive the line one day.

As someone who's gotten a lot of the beastbox cubes, complete recommendation there. They're a little pricy for the size, but they make up for it with quality engineering and plastic. They're pretty dense and well made. The four monkey combiner is pretty baller. Also recommend the japanese crane, the ankylosaurus, archeopteryx, crab, and angler fish. The dogs are good, just a little complicated.

Sometime in the 2000s, Bandai released a Zaku II figure that transformed into a Magellan Tank. Dunno if the line went beyond that, but it's neat to see something from Gundam that isn't supposed to be a transformer at all turn into something that is completely unrelated, and have both modes end up looking good. 2Old4Toys made a video on it like 15 years ago, and that's the only reason I know of it's existence.

The toys for super sentai series Zyuohger also flirted with the box mode thing in a more simple fashion as well.

my only experience with the last entry, is a black and blue spider man that turned into a bat, that mysteriously appeared in my room one day, hiding amongst my transformers shelf. To this day I have no idea where it came from

the spiderman megamorph activated a memory of having that exact spiderman mech like I remember the slightly metallic spiderman and the chest opening I don't think I actually realised it was a transforming toy tho

I have several beast box figs. They remind me of the animal bot cannon fodder in the Megaman X games

Man I remember seeing neo shifters in stores. I still have most of the parts somewhere but some of the plastic has degraded over time. God i miss Mega's original IPs.

6:38 Hasbro invented that concept in 2000. Known as 'Mutant Beast Wars', this toy line can change between two organic beast modes. Icebird (a snowy owl or polar bear), Poison Bite (a scorpion or barracuda), Razor Claw (a velociraptor or wolverine), and Soundwave (a bat or alligator).

That's an awesome point. I forgot about those guys. I had Icebird back in the day!

fun fact: the mutant beast wars figures were originally designed to be part of the Animorphs line before it got cancelled. That's why they have those flip out "mutant faces" -those were originally supposed to be the kids' faces.
