Stevie Ray talks w/ Cowboy Bill Watts, watching him as a 6-year-old ➤ TitleMatchNetwo... (From Wrestlecon April 2018)
Stevie Ray takes Stand Up For Greatness on the road to Wrestlemania! This time, Stevie catches up with legendary wrestler/promoter Cowboy Bill Watts. Bill Watts was Stevie Ray's grandmother's favorite wrestler - Stevie even recalls watching Bill wrestle when he was only 6-years-old. Here, Stevie talks to Bill about his arch nemesis in the 60's, Waldo Von Erich - a dastardly heel billed from Germany. Bill Watts aside from being a wrestler also promoted Mid-South Wrestling which many consider to be the best territory in the 80s. Bill also booked in WCW & for a short time in WWF with Vince McMahon.
Stevie Ray appeared all weekend at Wrestlecon 2018 (courtesy of Title Match Wrestling)
Wrestlecon 2018 took place during Wrestlemania weekend in New Orleans. The event featured 200+ superstars. Title Match Wrestling not only brought Stevie Ray to sign, but also Gangrel, Sabu, Ivelisse, Barbi Hayden, Kiera Hogan, Melissa Coates & Masada.

Stevie Ray would be great if wwe ever wanted to do the ESPN gimmick! @nerdwithjordans you would be surprised how good a promo people are off of wwe tv. luke gallows had his own podcast and was funny....and luke harper is more than just the generic trucker gimmick.

President Funny Valentine D4C -naw-His booker and long time great friend was Ernie Ladd, his biggest superstar was JYD and he didn’t fire Butch Reed after he beat up John Nord in the dressing room. Watts was no racist-his favorite color was green.

Also the most hated. When white wrestlers call you a racist that says something cause white wrestlers hear the n-word all the time. Apparently Watts took it to a whole new level.

@Name not Found, He grew up in an era, where being racist was meant to be merely a put-down in certain cases, like the way we used to say "fag" back in the 90s and eary 2000s just to diss people. Half the people that say that kinda stuff weren't really racists or homophobic. It was a different time, man, what can be said. People like him and a lotta people I knew in college became aware as time went by and just used other names to diss people. The fact that he pushed so much black talent shows clearly that he wasn't racist.

Growing up in the 60's, we watching wrestling! I got into Jr. High & went into my gym teacher's office in 7th grade & a poster of Cowboy Bill Watts was hanging above Ms Sue Watts' desk. I looked at that & asked her "Is this your brother??" & she said "heck yeah that's him!" Now all these years later, I wrote him & he was kind to let me know she was alive & well. My grandma loved Cowboy BW too, he's was a STAR!!!! Thanks for posting such a good memory!!!

Bill Watts did something.. may even be unique in wrestling.. but he gave Ernie Ladd the book. Unheard of in those days for a black man to have such a responsibility. Watts is a racist or at least has said racist things.. but I don't think he hates non-whites. He is a really, really complicated personality. I think he was one of those cases where money and even friendship meant more than whatever thoughts he had in his head.
