Cowboy Walt Disney and the Golden Oaks Ranch SD 480p

My brother and I were fortunate enough to get a tour of Golden Oak 10-15 years ago. The Triple R barn and corral from Spin and Marty were still there! It was easy to imagine the Swamp Fox and his men riding back and forth over those fields. It brought back memories of all those Sunday nights in front of the TV watching Disneyland Frontierland episodes.

I worked at the DISNEY RANCH numerous times over 30 years on various movies & TV shows... the current parking lot by the 14 frwy was part of the Andy Jauregui Ranch (aka Jones Ranch), a small film location used in the 1930s and 40s for (mainly) westerns. Land was owned by Chevron and leased to Jauregui until the 1990s when it was sold to Golden Oaks Ranch. In 1933 Jauregui bought the Jay Spear Rodeo Ranch near Newhall, California, and put together a string of rodeo stock. A contractor for 30 years, he was famous for halter breaking his animals and working them from a picket line, to ensure their health and stamina. Hollywood called Andy Jauregui in the 1920s, and he doubled for John Wayne, Ken Maynard, Tom Mix, and other actors. Jauregui’s stunt work included the Academy Award winning film Cimarron (1931), starring Richard Dix. The Virginian, starring Joel McCrea, was filmed on Jauregui’s Jay Spear Rodeo Ranch. Andy Jauregui retired to his Newhall spread in 1976. He died in 1990. Worked on ROOTS, NORTH & SOUTH on the western town set area, BACK TO THE FUTURE, BONES etc. The Sable Ranch is a few miles further up Placerita Canyon, worked on THE TIME MACHINE there. This is awesome. Used to live out there for a few years. Been watching some John Wayne poverty row classics and I knew I recognized SCV in some of them.

Santa Clarita is home to many cowboy western movies. Backlot ranches and exterior locations were and are the attraction. Plus the valley is within sight of Hollywood so it is easy to film here. Thanks for watching.

I've driven by Golden Oaks Ranch on trips to the Placerita Canyon Nature Center with my son's scout troop. One relatively recent show filmed there was WandaVision, where the small town building facades were used for Westview, the town that Wanda had trapped in her hex.
