Thanks for taking us along Kent! It was a pleasure meeting you and your lovely wife in Silver Dollar City. A few years ago I had to have a new pair of wagon wheels made for our 1963 Civil War artillery piece, we went to the Amish and they did a great job. A bit pricy but done right! Tom Boyte, GySgt. I greatly appreciate both gentlemen's love of western frontier era history and artifacts. I was fortunate to work with a late wagon builder with a very similar set-up. I applaud rescuing/salvaging antiques to use again. The shiny modern chuck wagons are absolutely more efficient and practical. My aesthetic problem is that they don't model the thousands of old images of rough country vehicles and make do equipment from every day frontier ranch life. No original chuck box or wagon on the rough frontier was ever so pristine. Details matter.

Back in 1959 - to 64 I belonged to a group of Civil War Reenactors (Living History Inc) - We had original cannons, limbers and caissons and one lone covered wagon. During the centennial of the Battle of Antietam - I rode from Hagerstown, MD to Sharpsburg MD in that covered wagon - I think every organ I had was rattled - - but we didn't have a Chuckwagon - guess our reenactors ate hard tack.

Every time I watch your videos Mr. Rollins, it reminds me of my Grandfather. My Grandfather was an Army Cook in the AEF. There used to be a photo of him, the Army Chuck Wagon and one of the Army Mules in the family but its long gone. Those last generation of horse and mule drawn Chuck Wagons were small, compact and light enough even when loaded with food for one mule to pull. Sadly my Grandfather had to put six mules down due to Gas Attacks. By then they got a new Ford Model T based Army Chuck Wagon.

Kent, please don't turn this great site into a political advertisement for Trump. The fellow you was interviewing was wearing a Trump hat--which is certainly his right here in America. But Trump has made too many anti-military slurs and comments over the last several years which are shameful and unpatriotic. Signed, a U.S. Army veteran who served in Vietnam in 1968.

@@curmudgeon3034 It sounds like you went over to the side that met us when we returned home in 1971. Those patriots that greeted everyone in uniform with curses, foul names, and spit! Our response - we held our heads up, marched on, and ignored the riff-raff. I have never liked Trump but l voted for him twice and intend to do so again because those running against him were/are much, much worse. I vote for who I consider the best candidate, not any particular party. I have voted in every election since I became 21 years old and have yet to find a candidate that was perfect in every way. BTW, I'm a vet too, enlisted (68), commissioned (76), retired (88).

The conversation between the two of you is the opposite of the current "me, me, me" generations - giving praise & credit where it's due, recognizing others for their excellence & expertise. This is a great video. This man knows what he is talking about. My father and grandfather were joiners. Antiques furniture and stage coach builders. He said they used to take the coaches down to the river every so often. To let the time swell. He told a curator of a museum once. The man said I 9:37 everything except this. My father said it for putting wooden dowels in spokes. It was used before they worked out how to build wheels the better way with steel tyres. Did you know a rocking horse with curved rails. You put the child on in the corner of the room, the horse was balanced, and it will move forward on each rock. It was like travelling across the country.
