Something about that 178, it just looks right. Good to see it getting sime attention. It's what brought me to your channel in the first place.

Hi Dan, this MF 178 Reminds me i operated exactly that tractor planting winter wheat about 50 years back when i was young. Few years ago i restored a MF 35 including engine repair, tin work. Always happy to see such tractors at your channel. Greetings from Germany

At least the bird made a good choice for a nest. It could have been Hammer house of horror's Green with a three legged badge on the front, You'll need to get out the 165 next and install the new clutch on a vintage Thursday video soon Dan.🙂👍

my old boss had a 1200 on demo back in the mid 80s . it was going to work the forage harvester . never got on with it , when you turned the steering full lock it took a while to respond to turn the other way . we ended up keeping the 595 on the claas jag
@stephenmelly118324 күн бұрын
You should Jack the tractor up to grease the front axel lt the axel hang

On the tractors I remember with that poor steering pump, a 165, 590 4wd and a 595, I recall that the filler plug was not that high up on the can. It was more at a 2 o’clock which meant that it wasn’t as full as yours is. Nevertheless the 595 would blow the o-ring that seals the canister around the pump housing. The 590 had a drop box from the front diff down to the driveshaft, similar to the 178 but I never had a leak from there. Crop could wrap around the driveshaft and ruin the seals either side of the driveshaft, which is mounter ridiculously low beneath the sump.

Great tractor's young man a whizz over with an oil rag on the bodywork will bring the colour out a bit more and add a subtle sheen. Hopefully the show has great weather and a top turn out.

Great video dan, quick question, was the 178 available from factory with 4wd? Must be extremely rare. We had a 2wd 178 years ago on our farm
@CowfarmerDan26 күн бұрын
Not in the UK, this one is French built for the European market.
@tonystapleton198726 күн бұрын
@@CowfarmerDan thanks for the reply Dan, that's interesting as you would imagine the uk and Ireland would have had the 4wd option as we get alpt more rain and therefore softer ground than mainland European countries

Hey Dan [or others] does diesel not deteriate in the same way as petrol? Different size but i cannot leave petrol in my mower for more than a few months before it gums up the carb so I wondered what the difference was?
@CowfarmerDan25 күн бұрын
Diesel doesn't age like petrol does, although modern diesel does contain biodiesel which can bring it's own problems.
@roba429727 күн бұрын
Nice to see the 1200. Is the breeze block still braking system ?
@CowfarmerDan26 күн бұрын
Yes, that's the parking brake.
@hedydd227 күн бұрын
While I know that the front axle is a conversion, did the 178 come from the factory with a square section back axle? Presumably with dry brakes like the 1080 because as far as I’m aware the 185 introduced square axles with wet brakes? All very interesting. It’s nice to see these classic mainstays of sixties and seventies mechanisation live again.
@CowfarmerDan26 күн бұрын
This one isn't a conversion, factory built in Beauvais. Axles are the same as 1080 and early 1200.
@hedydd226 күн бұрын
@@CowfarmerDan That must be extremely rare? I did wonder about the under sump drive shaft and square rear axle which didn’t appear officially in UK on the 100 series until 1971 on the 185
@CowfarmerDan26 күн бұрын
There's a few in the UK, all recent imports though, they were never sold new here.

Hi Dan is the 4wd factory fitted? Also have you ever thought about fitting a cab on the 178?

Yes, it's factory 4wd, built in Beauvais, France. I've tried to find a cab for it, no luck though.

@@CowfarmerDan we had a 135 unfortunately dad sold it I've tried buying it back off the guy but he's a real hoarder. Is it a particular cab to the 178? I will ask him (the hoarder) as he does have alot of stuff.
