+humanparadox he is so wrong. the best 2 QBs right now? Brady and Rodgers. What is their calling card? the 2 lowest Int % ever!(Montana's low as well). He mentioned Romo who became good when his Int went down.
@newrecruit1009 жыл бұрын
***** Exactly. You can be aggressive i.e. throwing the ball down the field, but still not turn the ball over. There isnt necessarily a trade off. Luck is just a bad decision maker and trust his arm to much. And then he brings up how Dalton is conservative which is so far from the truth, when Dalton is anything but. Then he says "most of his INTs are punts" which is just silly.
@joeclaspell96729 жыл бұрын
+newrecruit100 Luck is young. In no way am I gonna slam a guy that doesn't have a ridiculously low int rate like Rodgers and Brady when he's still playing on his rookie deal. You think Brady and Rodgers are cautious because they don't throw ints? Plz. Rodgers throws into windows no other QB would dream of. And he does it because he's that. damn. good. He got that good by being agressive. We'll see where Luck is a few years from now.

Let's compare stats here for the "Luck is a turnover machine" camp. Through each of their first 4 seasons, Tom Brady threw 13,919 yards 97 TD 52 INT Peyton Manning threw 16,418 yards 111 TD 81 INT Andrew Luck threw 14,838 yards 101 TD 55 INT Not bad company. Luck's TD-INT ratio is almost 2-1 and that's counting 2015 where he threw almost double the INT to TD. Brady's ratio is right there with him and Manning's isn't even close to being that good. Now let's remember that Manning had Marshall Faulk for 98 and ORoTY and ProBowler Edgerrin James for 99 and on. Brady had one of the best defenses in the league filled with ProBowlers and potential HOFers. Luck has an old Mathis (had an amazing 2013) and an old Reggie Wayne.
@brianwillis84478 жыл бұрын
Rules for QBs were easier when Luck came into the league which makes his stats look really bad.
@clutchthepearls30628 жыл бұрын
+Brian Willis Those might affect yards and TDs, but not INTs. So I guess you can say the edge he has over Brady is attributed to that, but the 26 less INTs than Manning isn't easy to explain away. Then again, we're talking about the hard nosed glory days of 1998-2004 lol. Not exactly the "good old days" people refer to when they say the modern game is soft, defensively neutered, and tailored for high scoring offenses.

It's like all the cosmic negativity in the world was on the Colts this game. Mike Tirico said all night: "Pocket collapsing, nobody open downfield." That's what Luck faced and that's why he struggled to make anything happen. After two picks (2 hit while throwing), he started running and yeah, they knocked the ball for a fumble, but he had one really good run where he lounged himself for the first down, hitting his back hard. This guy was fighting, pushing to score. Then two other great runs, one a 21 yarder, but they were called back due to "holding". I swear the OL was either getting decimated all night or were called for "holding" everytime the Colts finally made a good play. Gore too had two great 10 yard runs, brought back due to holding. They get close enough for a Vinatieri 29 ft field goal, yes Mr. Automatic and he missed it. You felt the shock in the stadium and the air just sucked out. This was the second time in two games he's missed. We are all trying not to panic. So then Luck finally drives beautifully down the field for 80 yards to the endzone and you saw what happened there. Gore, who NEVER fumbles, heads toward the open part of the endzone and...drops the ball on the 1. That is a soul killer. Then the injuries. We had already 2 top CB's out due to injuries and playing with 2 rookie CBs, then Pro Bowler Vontae Davis gets a concussion. I just looked at the TV in disbelief. How much bad karma is there? So we knew it was evitable that Fitzpatrick would finally find Marshall in the endzone against our rookie CB's. The only highlights and there were so few was Moncrief gaining over 100 yards and getting the TD, the defense holding the RBs for 3/4 of the game. Henry Anderson and Perry from Stanford are studs for rookies. Henry has had so many tackles now, the most for a Colts rookie. They know how to stop the run. That beautiful revenge tip of Vontae of the football from Marshall right into Adams hands. Mathis returns. TY fighting for the ball and stiff arming Revis for extra yardage. Yes, the Jets have an amazing, tough, gritty D with a front 7 to go with Cromartie, Skrine, and Revis Island in the back. But that was 50% of the Colts problem. The other 50% was themselves and self inflicted wounds.

Colin talks about how great QBs threw lots of picks, but they were a lot easier to throw in the time you could actually play defense in the NFL. In the 10 years Goodell has run the league, there have been 9 5,000 yard passers, which is 8 more than in the previous 90 years of the NFL combined. The average pass completion percentage has risen about 10 percent. Pass interference penalties are almost five times as common as they were even a couple years before he assumed the commissioner position. Terry Bradshaw threw picks because he had d-linemen horsecollaring him from behind while he started his motion. Andrew Luck throws picks because if his receiver times it right, he doesn't have to catch the ball to pick up 55 yards and an automatic first down; he can look at the ball, trip and pretend it was Jason McCourty's fault, and they don't have to do anything special. John Elway threw picks because he was picking grass out of his helmet before he could even see Kenny Easley running down the sideline. Drew Brees throws picks because triple coverage means nothing when none of them can get close to the receiver unless he's taller than 6'3". For an accurate QB, putting up monster stats is a piece of cheesecake in the NFL. Hell, Ryan Tannehill has better stats than Terry Bradshaw, Troy Aikman, Roger Staubach, Johnny Unitas, and Joe Montana. Who among us is willing to say that Ryan Tannehill is better than 5 of the greatest QBs of all time? Didn't think so.

If you wanna be a high stakes gambler, then you could run out of chips before you're expected to do so. In spite of fantastic personal attributes, Andrew Luck's aggressive playing style in mediocre teams exposed him more to injury and subpar success, and now, Luck does not want to keep paying the price of getting dealt that hand, so he is cashing in his chips. Kristine is losing it at the way Colin lovingly, aggressively strokes that alpha microphone.

Luck is a good to very good qb. But the hype he received coming out of college was just dumb. He can't touch Cam. Cam destroyed the records books for rookie qbs. RGIII was rookie of the year and took his team to the playoffs. You can't mention Luck in the same sentence with Russel Wilson, and Alex Smith outplayed him in the playoffs. He is a turnover machine. And until he earns the right to be careless with the ball, which no qb should ever have, then he just a liability. Let any of the other qbs I mention have the same turnover rate and you would be screaming for their heads. The problem is too many young qbs have come out of college and are good or better than Luck, and it makes all the hype and fawning you and other prognosticators did over Luck expose you as being shallow and mediocre to poor judge of football. Oh, and by the way Luck stepped into a pretty good team his rookie year. That whining about carrying a weak team is nonsense.
@brandonkabel87999 жыл бұрын
This argument is absurd. It's not an either-or thing. You can be a great player, be aggressive, and be careful with the ball. Look at his examples. Brett Favre: One title in 20 years with lots of talented teams. No excuse for the amount of interceptions he threw. Peyton Manning: high number of interceptions, but a relatively low INT percentage compared to the league average. After 1989, Marino was the same story. (It's best to use interception percentage in their case, as well as for most modern QBs including Luck who have a very high number of passing attempts) Eli Manning: mediocre QB who happened to play very well in two playoff runs. Terry Bradshaw: very mediocre numbers and could afford to take chances because he had the Steel Curtain waiting on the sideline if he screwed up. Joe Namath: not even a good QB; completion percentage barely above 50% and threw more interceptions than touchdowns. Yeah, you want a guy who can cash in on chances and deep throws, not a guy who makes more mistakes than winning plays. Now let's look at the other side of it. Not everyone who plays it safe has to fall into the category of Andy Dalton, Alex Smith, and Phil Simms. There are a lot of good quarterbacks who take care of the ball, throw very few interceptions, and are still a major reason why their team wins games. Ever hear of Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady (you know, two Luck contemporaries who are both considered better than Luck/Favre/Manning/Manning/Brees), or Joe Montana, Steve Young, and Kurt Warner (you know, three of the all time best quarterbacks who led some of the best and/or most prolific offenses in the history of the league)? Being in the same company as Brees (it's about where Lucks INT % lies, he's nowhere near Favre levels or beyond yet) isn't a bad thing in itself. It's just that people recognize Luck as a great talent and see that he could be even better if he cut down on senseless mistakes.
@flynt019 жыл бұрын
Whatever helps you sleep at night. The numbers don't lie. Outside of the AFC South, Andrew is an average QB. You can't give him all the praise when the team does well and blame everyone around him when they do terrible. Particularly when he throws ill-advised passes, including chucking the ball up when he's about to be sacked. Make all the excuses you want, he's overrated.

lol, this is the most bizarre argument ever. were attacking lucks abilities and how much he was hyped. he hasn't lived up to expectations. the way cowherd is saying this, to me, sounds like "all risk takers are great at their respective positions". its a combination of being able to take risk and do them in a GOOD, SAFE and SUCCESSFUL manner. Luck doesn't get a passing grade in the second criteria. take this for example, the wright brothers were amazingly successful people and were great risk takers. they devoted their lives into something they believed, that's risk taking. when they had prototypes for planes the didn't jump off of the grand canyon for a first go. they took steps that led them to success in a GOOD manner. if you look at pictures of were they took flight. the place looks like a big massive plain btw. In short, Cowherd is saying he is good because he tries, weather or not that's true(truthfully just opinion) he doesn't deliver what is needed to win. He can try all he wants but at the end of the day his numbers and accolades say that he is mediocre at best.

You know who DIDN'T win a title: Marino, Tarkenton, Fouts, Moon, Kelly, Cunningham, Romo, Vick, Rivers. You know who does have rings: Trent Dilfer, Phil Simms (x2), Brad Johnson, Bob Griese. Not saying that being all-conservative-all-the-time is always right, but that Cowherd has a cheap argument here. There's a lot that goes into winning a Super Bowl.
