Had a great week. The snow is finally starting to fall and feel a little more like winter. Drifted cows south to get them to calving pastures. We found an old spring developed by some hard working cowboys. We have a hat giveaway going on over on Instagram @1880drifters. Be expecting more give aways with some cool stuff in upcoming videos

Great show my Friend. We have the same problem with cattle holding up but up here it's the willows that give us the grief. They stop in them and they are hidden. You almost have to crawl to get in there to try and flush them out. I really like seeing those old building ruins in the rocks. I find that sort of thing so interesting. Packing those colts and taking them along sure teaches them a lot. Thanks for sharing your adventures! I really enjoy the shows!

You are so lucky, you differently run you cows in God's country. Colts are really doing well, good job. I was lucky to get to cowboy on the Gamble Ranch in Nevada. Its a love in your heart to to do a job horseback. Don't know if you ever get the feeling that you know your on ground that no one else has set foot on!!!

Hey, thank you for watching, You nailed it. That is hard to explain to people who have never experienced it. Yes, I feel that way a lot. There are places here that you just know very few people have ever stepped foot on, and yet if feels familiar!!! being horseback is incredibly special and I have moments everyday where I feel so blessed to be there.

❤🎉 Wow cool to get the young horses out on the range.🐴 What was that gnarly brush mess holy cow!! I know Dusty of Cross Timbers Bison is spraying and burning to try to reduce the awful blackberry overgrowth that's taking over some pastures. Terrible stuff and out of control. You put in lots of miles and cows are looking good. You'd think all that wandering would make them too skinny lol. They are really good at surviving and thriving!! 🐂 Another fascinating movie, thanks for your videos!! 😊🤠😍❤️🐎🐄🙂

Hi, thank you for watching. The brush along that river is called Tamarisk. It is terrible and we would love to burn that stuff, but we are on BLM land and would have to go through their Land Improvement process, which takes several years. (slow government) But it might be worth the wait. Also just an interesting note, we have been doing selective breeding for the past 20 years, getting cows that have the ability to live on this type of range land. It is fun to see them improving a little every year. Take care

I have seen injuries like that to your cow hit by the car in the past, she looks to me as if she has been what we would call "pulled" at the hip joint. Peace and quiet with good grub at hand for awhile should do it , but it will take time, also if you could manage to give her some anti -inflammatory stuff now and again, it would do her a power of good.

I would imagine for that black-and-white cow that came from a black ball and she threw a red calf last year. It might be interesting to see what her DNA test might show. Thank you for a good show. Thank you for sharing your info about getting into ranching.

I worked on a sheep and cattle station in New Zealand, it had been 30 years since they had a Galloway bull, Angus and Hereford cows, some of the cows , a very low number still had a thin stripe around them, harking back to the Galloway, and their calves always had a thin belt like their mothers, very strong genes in the Belted Galloway

Footnote to that story, it was only ever the Angus black cows , with the line, the Hereford and Hereford cross never ever had it, just the angus

Hi, thanks for watching. I have been ranching my whole life, but raising a family, I needed a stable income. I was a Social Worker for the State of Utah. I retired last year after a 30 year career, and now I am able to ranch full time.

I notice you guys don’t carry sidearms. Have you ever run into mountain lions or mean wild bulls that have threatened you? I’ve had several bad encounters out of doors so I never venture out without protection. Just curious why you don’t carry a sidearm or a rifle on your horse?

Hi, thanks for watching. And you are absolutely right. We always have a gun in the truck and when we can, we are packing! I don't carry everyday, but I should! And yes, we have ran into situations where we needed our sidearm.

@@1880cowboysI’m glad you’re packing for your own protection. I’ve been attacked by a huge mountain lion and wild dogs while fly fishing in Utah. My oldest son had a wolf encounter in Wyoming when he was fly fishing. Once when backpacking a bull moose took exception with our camping spot and I had to dodge him around a small stand of Aspens for several minutes. Luckily I didn’t have to drop him. Worse than the animal attacks were two completely insane homeless men who didn’t like me fishing in their river. You just never know what you might encounter out of doors. If you’re not already familiar with Underwood Ammo, look into their hardcast bullets that will stop bears. They are available in several calibers. The 10mm has really come into its own in recent years and is a tremendous outdoor caliber. It’s become a favorite of guides in Alaska. Lastly, several holster manufacturers are offering chest holster rigs for most common pistol brands and models. A chest rig solves many of the issues of packing in a seated position. Best wishes!

I got a star on my car and one on my chest. A gun on my hip and the right to arrest. I'm the boss on this highway so watch out where you're going my way I'm the highway patrol. I'll bet a holstein jumped into somebody's pasture of angus 5 generations ago
