What are those “flanges” on the sides of the foot of the jet pump? Are those aftermarket?

Luke W. those are factory. That’s the way it comes.

Those are intake fins. The are designed to scoop more water into the intake and keep air from entering in the sides. They don’t come factory on the mercury, maybe the builder of the boat added them on. Outboard jets sells their own aluminum version but lots of guys also build their own out of uhmw to help slide over stuff.
