think about it from his perspective. one day a natural disaster separates you from your entire family, you just barely escape death and end up infested with all sorts of parasites and infection. suddenly some alien finds and takes you home and starts treating your wounds and bathing you. day by day the alien tends to your needs feeding you and keeping you comfortable and you have absolutely no clue why or how. so, you just sit there eating your meals confused as the alien regularly takes care of you, hoping that it keeps helping you and allowing you to regain your strength.

He's probably confused as hell. Some weird ape thing pulled all of the parasites out of him and is now giving him food and nurturing him. If some random alien picked you up as a kid after you were separated from your parents, magically (from your perspective) cleansed you of parasites and diseases, and started caring for you as if you were their own, you'd have been one very confused but probably also very relieved kid.
